Eugene was amazing. He provided wonderful pictures and video that captured the joy of my special day. My husband and i are more than pleased with his work, and are very thankful for his exceptional skills and talent. With that said he was also prompt and very professional. He wasn't intrusive with the picture taking and he was able to obtain pictures of our loved ones as well. There was nothing more that I could have asked of him.Eugene has given us a day of memories in the form of pictures and video. You would be making the best decision by choosing him as your photographer.

We are so happy we found Dan to be our wedding videographer. When I was looking to hire someone, I wanted to make sure I knew what we were getting, since some other videographers only produce a short highlighted reel. Dan provides both a long version and highlight, which is very important so the speeches and dances are included. Dan is so talented at what he does. My husband and I cry every time we watch our videos. Dan is masterful in his editing. He produces a work of art that evokes a nostalgic feeling from seeing your experience from a new perspective. He also focuses on what matters most, the people involved in the special day. He is professional, responsive, and so kind. One of the nicest wedding vendors we worked with! He was very open to making changes after the initial video was sent to us. He is very skilled at being invisible when he is working, which is such an important trait to have when you are videotaping people and wanting them to act natural! We suspect he may be a wizard... We highly recommend Dan!!

I worked with Carey. She was very professional and courteous. After her initial introduction and a few minutes filming me one on one, I completely forgot her team was even there. They did not get in the way of the wedding at all and she worked well with my photographer as well. I am so glad I decided to use a videographer because there were so many aspects of the day that I just could not see happening. I'm looking forward to watching the finished video . I will get to relive that beautiful day all over again .

I just got done watching my highlight video for the hundredth time. Rodney was hired two weeks before our wedding and once he agreed to work with us he got right to it. He demonstrated his professionalism through helping us with the steps of our itinerary and bringing up creative ideas from past weddings he shot. Rodney was also there for us day in and day out if we had any questions pertaining to the big day. He took a lot of stress off of us by being very punctual and discrete when shooting us throughout the day. He did have a very creative and artistic style of placing us in various settings and lighting. The video alone shows how much talent he truly has when it comes to producing such a memorable part of our lives. I would definitely recommend Rodney Kidd to my friends and family if they are in need of a videographer. We are extremely happy with what Rodney created for us and are excited to show it off to our friends and family. https://youtu.be/tM6BfP5XMSs Watch for yourself and see how awesome and talented he truly is.

Jeffrey Pask is one of the most kindest photographers/videographers out there. He is professional and personable at the same time. If you have a creative/fun idea for your project, he will most-likely always be up for it. Jeffrey helped me start my modeling/acting career by shooting my first photoshoot ever. Since it was my first time, I was super nervous. He saw that I was nervous and made me laugh the whole time with his hilarious jokes. That really reduced the tension of it being my first photoshoot, and after that, I decided I wanted him to be my main for all of my photography needs. If it wasn't for Jeff, I wouldn't have such a great portfolio to show agents and casting directors. He is dedicated and will always make sure that you get the results that you want, even if it entails a 9 hour shoot! ;)

We picked Bill to do the video for our wedding, however, something came up and we had to cancel the video. Bill was very kind and understanding through the whole ordeal. He is also very professional. I wish he could have been there but I still would recommend him because as a videographer he is amazing but as a person he is truly special. If you hire this man you will definitely be glad you did!

The decision to get a videographer was a last minute one and I was thrilled with Quenton. He did exactly what I needed, was not too invasive during the ceremony and reception and edited it beautifully. He captured my wedding day in a way that will always be remembered. I didn't have any reference but thumbtack and I was so pleased.

Andrea is one of the most creative people I know. I have hired Andrea on several occasions in which she performed the following professional services: head shots, action photography, video and video editing. She did a tremendous job on every service she provided and has gone above and beyond my expectations every time. I recommend Andrea to all of my friends and to anyone that is looking for a creative and professional photographer and videographer.

Chris was the videographer for our wedding. We hired him last minute and he did such a wonderful job. He is a nice quiet guy. The preview video got to us very fast and he's nice about allowing us to make any changes. Definitely recommend him for weddings or any other events!

Jen and I were not sure about getting a videographer for our wedding but Christian was recommended by our DJ and we started our search. Since this was his first wedding shoot compared to his other video work we were admittedly a little nervous at first but trusted our DJ's recommendation. So glad we did!! He showed up with an assistant so not only one video was being shot but two so we have two perspectives to enjoy in our extra footage. They both arrived early and stayed almost the entire night (about 8 hrs!) getting great footage that we are enjoying watching (especially the bonus behind-the-scenes footage we would have missed otherwise). Very professional, courteous, and fast communication. Would recommend to anyone looking for a reasonably-priced and professional videographer to capture your special day!! Thanks again Christian!!

Fast Forward Videos was the videographer for my daughter's wedding. Her finished product is better than anything I've seen in this genre. She is very creative and avoids the gimmicky, schmaltzy videos you so typically see for weddings. She created a video that captured the both the fun and the importance of this occasion. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for something original.

    About

Discovering the 4 pillars of the story. People, places, plot and purpose. All before hitting record.

    About

We work directly with the client to make a film directly representing their personalities and characteristics. Each film is a custom production about their love story. Aside from our Hi-definition films we also offer a rare service to film in Super 8mm. Super 8 film evokes memory. It’s a little rough, jumpy and scratchy — just like our recollections of events. Everything looks romantic and ethereal on film.

    About

Here at Black Garnet Productions, we're committed to offering metro Detroit area couples with leading wedding video services at an affordable price. We are a husband and wife team, and were recently a bride and groom ourselves, so we understand how important and special your wedding is, and look forward to discussing your hopes and ideas for how you want to remember and relive your day for the rest of your lives. We didn’t discover our passion for video until we became parents. We shot what seems like millions of videos of our son, and began to edit them to create enjoyable home movies for our whole family. We then started bringing our camera along to friends' weddings who hadn't hired a videographer, and we'd make them a video as a gift. This is how we discovered our true passion. There is nothing like capturing the look on the face of the groom the first time he sees his bride. We love being able to give the gift of feeling butterflies over and over each time a couple watches their video. Allow us to give you the gift of butterflies forever!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
