Name: Angella Carlos Age: 22 Reason for beginning personal training: To have a more aesthetically pleasing body for dance, build strength and stamina, and learn gym exercises/training program that would help me achieve these. What you liked about Drew’s training methods: I liked how he motivated me during the times when my body felt like giving up. It was important to me because I tend not to push myself past my limits when I workout. I also appreciated how he constantly gave me comments/feedback during or after each set of exercises. I was able to correct myself right away or at least become more conscious of my form while doing the exercises. Moreover, the progression of the program was paced very well and I felt myself improving with every session. The repetition and variation of exercises were effective in building consistency and strength, and the addition of new ones made it fun and more challenging each time. What you learned during your personal training: The whole training method that I was given was the biggest lesson learned. Through it I got to know my body more, what my strengths and weaknesses are when it comes to working out. This awareness has taught me what exactly I need to work on so I could target those and be more efficient when I go to the gym. Any other thoughts you would like to include: I would recommend Drew to anyone who would like to improve on their fitness and become more confident in their bodies. It was a great experience working with him!

I've known Julie for years, and when I started looking for private swimming lessons for my son, who has autism, I went to her to get recommendations for where I should take him. She said that she was hoping to begin working with people with special needs, and asked if we'd like to try her out with our son. Well, we couldn't be happier with our son's progress. Because of his disabilities, it is a slow process, but Julie is eternally patient, and he continues to become more confident in the water every week. I am no longer a nervous wreck every time we're near a pool or lake. My son looks forward to her lessons every week, eagerly. One day he came home from school and wanted his iPad. The battery was dead and if you know any kids on the spectrum, you know this is a recipe for disaster. I told him that we needed to get ready for swimming lessons with Julie and immediately he lit up and forgot all about the iPad. He was goin' swimming with Julie!

4-years ago I asked Kim to teach me how to swim as I wanted to do a Sprint Triathlon. I could barely swim to the end of the pool. She told me to swim back to the other end the first day and I wanted to get out and walk back to the other end. From there, we did drills, worked on technique and most of all she worked on my confidence in the water. We did weekly training and I progressed. As we moved on she would get in the water with me to really see what I was doing to further improve my swim. October of 2016 I completed a full Ironman Triathlon. Completing the 2.4-miles swim portion was all possible due to her training. Kim brought me along slowly so I never had a setback or injury in my swim training. That was really important to me as I started to work with her when I was 49-years old. Great trainer, great positive attitude and as an experienced athlete she understands when to push you and when to back off to avoid injury.

This is our first experience with swimming lessons and it's been AMAZING! My 4 year old daughter wouldn't put her face in water. But on her first class she was going under and putting her face in. Since than every class she gets more confident and excited to try new skills. I would recommend this class if you want your child to learn to swim and have confidence in their abilities!

Best swim instruction in Minnesota! Kids as young as 3 years old learn to swim actual strokes! Much improvement from getting tied up in noodles and doggy paddling that we experienced at the Y. My 6 yo has been taking them for 3 years. She confidently swims the front crawl, backstroke, elementary backstroke and breaststroke!

I love Griffin lol! He's such a great instructor and makes me feel comfortable in the pool. After a traumatic accident, I was terrified to go in the deep end or even attempt to swim across the pool. Swimming is an amazing sport and has always been a huge part of my life. I swam competitively from ages 8-18 and participated in many State and Zone meets for club teams. I also swam at the State meet in High School for Wayzata, and was captain of the Park Center Swim Team my senior year. I currently swim with I SWIM, a "Masters" swim club. At what age should you start swim lessons?

From 6 months to 96 years old, no one is too young or too old to benefit from swimming lessons. Once your baby is six months old, they are eligible to take “parent and me” swimming lessons from most swim schools. When babies are between six months and several years, you or another guardian must be with the baby throughout the entire lesson for safety reasons. Even if babies can’t walk, they quickly adapt to moving in water, so familiarizing them early means more fun for everyone and keeps them from being afraid of water later on. It also helps with water safety and drowning prevention. As for adults and seniors, it’s never too late to start swimming. Knowing how to swim can not only save your life, it provides an impact-free way to safely exercise and keep muscles and joints limber. Swimming can even help relieve pain from chronic diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Most swimming schools offer group or private instruction, so if you’re shy about learning a new skill, you can do so one-on-one.

How much are swimming lessons?

Not only is swimming fun, but knowing how to swim can save your life by preventing drowning. The average national cost for swimming lessons ranges between $40 and $50. Swimming lessons can vary in price depending the type and length of lesson you select. Private swimming lessons, where you receive one-on-one coaching with a swim instructor, will cost more than group lessons. The longer the lesson, the more it will cost. Swimming lessons are available for people of all ages, so if you’re an adult just learning to swim there are beginners’ classes suitable for you. There are also advanced classes for adults who are training for races or want to hone their skills. Pricing can vary depending on where you live as well as the amenities offered by the pool. For example, a pool with private locker rooms and a hot tub may have higher rates than a basic swimming pool. Here are some examples of the average costs of adult swimming lessons:

  • Private lessons for adults:
    • 30-minute lesson: $35-$50.
    • 60-minute lesson: $55-$80.

How do you prepare for infant swimming lessons?

There are several steps you can take to prepare both yourself and your baby for the exciting adventure of infant swimming lessons. Start by introducing your baby to being in the water via the bathtub. There are no immunizations specific to swimming that your child needs before playing in a public pool, but do research to confirm the pool is well-maintained and has a clean bill of health. You’ll need the right swim gear; proper attire can include swim diapers and protective swim pants. Be prepared to check regularly and change soiled diapers as needed. The CDC warns against allowing your child in a public pool if they have any symptoms of diarrhea; swim diapers and swim pants can’t protect against transmission of germs in this case. For outdoor pools, apply water-resistant sunscreen to the delicate skin on your baby’s face and body approximately 30 minutes before pool time to prevent burns. For the health of your baby and other children, it’s important for your child to be in good health when attending swim lessons. If they have a cold or fever, it’s better to keep them home. Finally, be prepared to have fun.

How early can babies start swimming?

Most swimming instructors and swim schools offer infant swimming starting at six months. Although it is not formal swimming, the lessons familiarize your baby with moving in the water, and also teach you the basics of keeping your baby safe in the water. You or another guardian will stay with the baby in the water throughout the entire lesson.

The American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend formal swim instruction until one year old, but taking your infant to regular swim class can be fun, safe and helpful for developing baby’s coordination and awareness of water. Experts urge parents not to become overconfident in their children’s water skills. Keep in mind that most children aren’t really able to swim on their own until they’re at least four years old. Even if they’ve had swim lessons, always watch younger children when they’re in the water and be ready to react in case of an emergency.
