Aaron was fantastic to work with and did an exceptional job. I hired him the same day I inquired for a painter on Thumbtack because he was so responsive. And he was extremely diligent and insisted on three coats when he realized two coats weren’t going to be enough. I’ll hire him for future painting jobs.

He, sanded and stained my entryway door, removed my bathroom ceiling fixture seeing how I couldn't get down so I could clean it then he replaced it. He moved my living room furniture, assisted with taping off woodwork then he assisted with the painting. When everything was done he clean up after himself. He agreed to come back on Monday to paint my kitchen and dining room.

Don White recently performed tiling, wallpaper removal and painting for me. Don did an excellent job. His "administative process was sound - he wrote out a proposal of services, his price was for the work to be done - not per hour - and committed to a completion timeline. I feel his pricing was very competitive. The kitchen tile backsplash was done within the timeframe he committed to. He was on time, respectful of my time and cleaned up thoroughly. The tile work was straight, good spacing, and very precise cutting around outlet openings. I love the final product. i then asked to remove 30 yr old wallpaper. He comitted to the project and completed the removal as well as painting the room as needed. Don is trustworthy and has high integrity. I'll be following up with him for future hoome project needs. Turnaround time was exceptional! I needed to find an interior painter ASAP for a bathroom that was halfway completed with painting that I was unable to get to. Torres LLC scheduled an appointment to complete the job within 3 days of my search. Looking forward to seeing his work and adding another review with pictures!

I had my interior trim and doors installed and painted. I had started the process a couple years ago, but was having difficulty finishing the project with 3 young boys and all there activities. I hired Adventure 25 to come out and give a bid and they could start the project in about a week. The first part of the process was to finish the trim work and rip all the basement trim out and a couple of doors that had not been replaced yet. The trim work was done in a couple of days. The painting was delayed because of rainy weather. This is where the stress begins. The prep work that comes before painting can be a lot of work and time consuming. There was little to no prep of the trim. Lots of missed nail holes, lots of missed caulking and the stuff that was done was very poor. I was told that this is high quality paint and it will cover in one coat. I know better. It can take several coats to make the white trim look good. There was paint all over the wood floors, tile in kitchen, paint on the cabinets, paint on my trees outside, paint on the concrete driveway, paint on my fire pit. There seemed to be no care in the world. Jaimie kept telling me that we are not painters. I understand that but my 5 year could of done better. It was supposed to be rolled and instead there was pain brush marks all the trim. The one painter said he thought it would look cute to but swirls with his brush on the top of all the door trims. I met with Jaimie 4 different times to which he said how do I make this right? I would go through things with him and come home at the end of the day to find more of a mess and continued poor quality work. I have never seen anything like this. He would say it would be fixed but I don't think he would watch over his workers and forget to tell them things. I am stressed out beyond believe as my hope was to have this finished to spend more time with my kids. Instead I have to redo most of it. I had another contractor come out and told me it would be about 10 thousand to fix. He never had seen such poor quality work. I would not recommend him to my worst enemy. Very nice person but I think he was over his head and always in a rush, hence the poor quality work. Since I cant pay 10 thousand to someone to fix it, I am now looking at a year or so to fix my trim. Very frustrated and angry customer.

Mark was the only Handy Man on ThumbTack that actually reached out to me. He showed up the next day, offered great advice and gave me a very reasonable quote. He showed up the 2 days he said he would and did a great job (gutters, flashing, painting). I now have my Handy Man for life. I’m actually putting together another list of things for him to do right now. 👍👍 Highly Recommend.

Madeleine did such a great job with her face painting service. She traveled to the site with all supplies and started working with the kids while I was busy with the event. Every kid ran around excited to show off their face paint. I would give this a rating of 6 if there were six stars.

We were very happy with the work that Harald did for us. He painted the majority of our main level. He was always on time, had a fair price and his painting is flawless. He fixed holes and cracks that needed fixing. He cleaned up when he was finished every day. He was very friendly and easy to work with. We will hire him again to paint the rest of the rooms in our home. We highly recommend Harald and are very happy with the work that he did.

We needed a wall built in our finished lower level. Cory was able to get to work right away and the quality of work is wonderful. Cory went above and beyond cleaning up each day before he left. The work was done when he said it would be and for the price he quoted. We have already hired Cory again to paint our home. I recommend Cory highly.

I started using In Town Painters a year ago for our apartment complex. The last company I had was expensive, the jobs were never up to my standards and I always felt like I had to call them back. Working with In Town Painters originally was to do repaint after residents moved out of the complex and to freshen up the apartment for new residents. After the first couple months and about 10 apartments later, I never had an issue with quality of service, never had to have them come back, they always were on time and finished jobs according to the schedule. Another thing I really like was how they taped off all woodwork trim, windows, doors, laid plastic over flooring and furniture to protect the apartments. I am proud to say we still work with In Town Painters. They finished up the main entry and our offices last month they gave us great ideas and aided us in color and paint selections for the office. It feels and looks great. If you are looking for an honest, fast, great priced painting service. These guys are the ones to call.

The Blue team was very responsive and accommodating for my tight timeline. Their experience preparing houses for FHA inspection and reassurance they would fix any painting related issues if they came up convinced me to hire them on the spot. The painting crew was primarily one guy named Darren. He was courteous, professional and worked quickly. I would hire them again for other painting projects.

Northern Walls Painting was able to give an quote very quickly, and started the job within only a few days at a very reasonable price. They almost could finished the job at estimated time frame, but got some delay due to bad weather, which is totally OK to me, considering another contractor I quoted asked me to wait for 4 weeks before he can start to work. The outside of house looks great again after the job and I'm 100% satisfied.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
