Kim K. says, "Lakeview Paintworks was one of 7 companies that came put and bid on my homes small job. We previously, hired someone else (none painters but excellent tree trimers) who told us they could do some of the home maintenance work we needed. Unfortunately, they were not as amazing at the maintenance stuff as they were the trees which caused us to turn here to get bids from true painters. Our bids ranged from 900 - 3,500, with painters wanting to power wash, resand, fully caulk, prime, and paint the small amount of wood soffit, facia, and window/door trim we have. Also with the bids I had companies range from taking 10-35 minutes to look at the home and nearly every single one tried to play the sale game by asking so, how much have you budgeted for the work. Having been in sales my entire life I see through the tactics and it’s a sure way to not win my business. Here’s where Lakeview Paintworks comes in… Juan arrived on time for the bid ✅. He was friendly, kind, and didn’t pull any punches. ✅ We walked around my little less than 1500 fsf home, in about 4-5 minutes with him asking and answering questions about the job. He noted things I had not even thought of and made suggestions. When we got back to the drive way he said something along the line … ‘… no offense but I don’t need to wait to give you a bid. Your job is not very big and we can do it for X.’ ✅ He was music to my ears not only was the pricing fair for the work to be done but also there just was no freak’n BS. I grew up with multiple family members being professional painters so I know enough to have some idea of the scope of our work as it translates to things needing to be done, time tables, and rough fair cost range. We parted ways shaking hands, me letting him know I’ll be following up after we receive all the bids. It took me 3 days to get the bids, when reviewing them with my partner he instantly asked why we were not just going with Juan’s. He was not the cheapest (that guy was an organization nightmare and really concerned me that attention to detail was not going to be had) but was the most pragmatic & reasonable for scope of work and pricing. So we went with Lakeview Paintworks and are supper happy that we did. Our bid, the contract, and even payment was all through a painting app that streamlined the process as well as allowed if we had wished or needed to finance the project. Which we are keeping in mind for when we are better positioned to have our stucco painted. Weather did delay the work to be done however Juan kept in constant contact. The day of the work his crew showed up several minutes early which made me incredibly happy. They were polite, incredibly hardworking, asked questions if they had any, were supper clean, taped my cream stucco so the blue paint did not get on it and worked 12+ hours that day. The next day Juan came out to check the work. It was pouring outside. In a text message I asked about how I might remove some drops of paint that happened on my front step. In the pouring rain not only did he use a wire brush to clean it off, he also, grabbed a roll of type he noticed on his own that was accidentally left on the roof, as well as a small little bit of tape that was on the corner of my house. Both something my partner pointed out that morning but I didn’t have the heart to bring up because it was pouring outside and I knew we could remove both ourselves when it was sunny. The rain didn’t stop Juan from seeing what needed to be done on his own and doing it. He later messaged letting me know he noticed some spots that needed touch up and that he would be back to do them when it was not raining. These guys have blown me away in their work ethic and truly delivering high quality work they are hired to do. Not only are we blown away but our neighbors have been commenting too on how great of a job they did and how hard they worked. I firmly believe these guys are the ones you want painting your home! Do not think twice about hiring them… they are amazing!"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
