I'm a softball player at Waldorf College and I had the privilege of working with Coach David last year. I came to him in the fall, trying to work through a hip flexor injury and build strength specific to my sport [pitching]. Though Coach David was not working with the softball team, he took the time to make a personalized workout for me, including sport-specific lifts/exercises, and strengthening stretches for my hip. On top of that, he built one-on-one time with me into his busy schedule, making sure that I was doing all the lifts correctly and helping me to improve with each session. He also kept in touch with me when I was on the road travelling for games, checking in on my hip and my confidence. He is an excellent coach, one to takes time to work individually with athletes and who genuinely cares about their well being. I honestly would not have had half of the success I had last season without him.

I have been meeting with Aimie for almost a year to discuss everything from nutrition to fitness to my life after cancer. She is very knowledgeable and provides solutions based on each individual client. She is a great motivator and provides you with the tools you need to succeed. Meeting weekly with Aimie keeps me on track and accountable. I would highly recommend Aimie as a coach in many aspects of life!

Rachel is a wonderful coach. She is understanding and empathetic while she helps you work through whatever area of life you need coaching in. Her knowledge of coaching techniques is apparent in every session. No matter what you throw at her, she has a suggestion.

She was very intuitive as to what was holding me back and was able to find ways to help me that worked for me. I can't say enough good things about her except that you must give it a try- what's it gonna hurt? I was skeptical but after our session I ended up going you see her another 4 times and would've continued if we hadn't already found a plan that balanced me out and basically turned my life around from that point on. And just knowing that I can call her and user another session (which are actually very reasonably priced compared to most) helps when I feel like my life is heading into a different direction than intended.

Life brings before us many life changing events, transitions and struggles. These are simply situations and circumstances. The great joy is knowing that they do not get to define who we are inside. Our perception of how we handle them is what defines who we are inside our own minds and hearts. My goal is to help people build self confidence, self-esteem and self-worth so that you can enjoy life with a positive mindset and attitude for life. Here's to believing in you and achieving all your dreams! -Michelle

My work stands out because I don't have to try to get clients, my clients come to me. I seem to attract people who need help and have problems in their personal and professional lives. I care about others and have a desire to help others. I believe God has called me to be a Life Coach. You can all the credentials in the world, but if you don't truly care about people, you will not be able to help them. If all you care about is the money and when the time is up, you really do not care about the people. Time is an issue because I need to be able to organize my time. I need to charge a fee, but it has to be a fee the person can afford. Lastly, my degree which I do not put emphasis, is a Master's of Applied Psychology. My degree helps me to understand how to build resilience in others and in myself. Resilience is the ability to work through issues/problems. I use Positive Psychology and Solution Focused Thought to help clients. I do not do therapy. I am not qualified. I use what I have learned to help others. Yes, my degree has helped me understand our physiology, psychology, and neurology. I understand how what we think affects our circumstances, and how we feel about ourselves. If we are happy, we are more apt to be able to understand positive thought and how it can bring you to an awareness of what you are to become. Happiness is something that may be foreign to many people, but it is an integral part of success in business and in life. Finding your flow state which is a state in which you are working, but do not realize you are working because you are enjoying it so much. Love of work and of life is a goal that we can work toward together. I will be learning as you are learning. It is a collaboration of minds that will bring you to new and higher insights about yourself and others. The human connection will help you find your true purpose.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

      Why get a life coach?

People of all ages and in all careers have called in a life coach. Life coaches are accredited professionals who can help you figure out the tangible changes you can make in your life to reach your goals; they can even help you turn your dreams into goals, if you’re not sure where to go next. A life coach can also help people find their purpose in life. Life coaching clients often have an idea of what they want to do, such as help people or work with animals, but don’t know how to turn that passion into a career. A life coach can help clients work through the options to find a clear path with concrete steps that lead to an attainable goal. A life coach can also help clients make a major career change, such as starting a new business. Life coaches can help clients develop better habits that will make them more successful, acting as an accountability partner. Life coaches also often guide their clients through major transitions in life, such as a career change or other stressful situations that are made easier with guidance from a neutral third party.
