Nick was an absolutely amazing person to work with. From the first meeting to the final video he was professional, timely, and just made the experience wonderful. My husband and I were planning the wedding from out of state and Nick just worked with us and our schedules and made sure that no matter what the time difference was, to make sure that we felt heard and at ease. The day of our wedding he just made it so much fun! Everyone loved him and most people forgot that he was even carrying a video camera. The video itself turned out perfect and was everything we could have asked for. The memories that he captured we can’t say enough about. Thank you Nick for giving us such a great treasure to remember our day.

These guys were fantastic. Everyone was wowed by their professional recording set up, with multiple HD cameras, lighting and sound equipment. We had some last minute scheduling changes and they were adaptable with zero hassle. Their rate is among the most competitive on the market, and I've worked with dozens of videographers over the last few years. Lastly, the quality of the final deliverable was extremely high quality footage and audio. You could see that they were actively engaged in the conversations with the people they were recording, making them feel comfortable while at the same time prompting them for great sound bytes. I will definitely use them again when the need arises and highly recommend them for your video project needs.

Tom was recently our Videographer for our wedding on 9/19/15. When we first met him we told him exactly what parts we wanted in our video. We got our video back just recently. Watched it and loved it! He got in everything we asked for and more. He captured some things I didn't know he got. He such a phenomenal job! I am very pleased with the editing and I am so glad I chose Tom. My husband and I can now relive our best day. Thank you Tom!

I had previously worked with a video person who should not have been doing video and didn't understand what I wanted. I worked with Matt at Cloverleaf and he was wonderful! We talked about my project, he asked questions and understood what I wanted and he delivered. We made the editing adjustments and it looks great! Very happy with them - they will get my video projects in the future.

PhotogFilms are professionals and did an outstanding job capturing the experience of our wedding day from getting ready to the last dance. Everything they captured was from multiple angles and in pristine 4K resolution (sorry other guys, but 1080p just doesn't cut it anymore--I want to watch my wedding day on our down the road anniversaries in 4K). Everything shot was all sharp and in focus, even the low-light night time stuff looked good. They even put a wireless lab mic on myself and our wedding speakers so we could have professional sounding audio. Jim and Ashley-- the young husband & wife team that are PhotogFilms-- were super friendly and great when it came to directing, logistics, and continuity-- things like reminding us to not leave the hotel room without our wedding rings so we could have them for the photos and videos we took before the ceremony, offering to give some of the wedding party a ride in their car to the next location so we didn't have to take another taxi, and also blocking out some of the shots to make them look more cinematic. All around, a very good experience, although I wish we got our video sooner, but that's to be expected if the vendors you work with are busy and take their time to finish the job right. If you need wedding videography you won't be disappointed by PhotogFilms.

I’ve worked with Kevin on a number of occasions. He’s helped me with audio recording, sound engineering and videography, and it’s always improved my work considerably. He’s easy to work with, creative and flexible. As a musician, he brings an added knowledge base and creative point of view to any collaboration, on top of the purely technical skills (audio, video) I’m hiring him for. And when I’m ready and eager to settle for “good enough,” he’s not, if he knows it can be better.

I worked with Infinitree Media on a 12 day International Film Project shoot in Ghana, Africa. I was hired as the project coordinator. I needed a film crew that would be reliable, team oriented, and professional. I was focused on the content of the film and needed to work with a crew that could not only provide leading edge film and audio equipment but also have the endurance to shoot for 10 plus hours in extreme heat. Infinitree sent a crew of three, Two camera operators (including the piloting of a drone) and an audio engineer. Although they had roles that they focused on during the project they were all proficient on all the equipment/tasks that needed to be performed. This was extremely important as I could not risk losing any content due to someone getting sick during our time in Ghana. They were exceptionally helpful and knowledgable during the Visa process and obtaining a carnet that would ensure that we got all media and equipment into and out of Ghana. The film and audio content was predominately shot in an agricultural setting. We lacked access to electricity which was a barrier they excelled in overcoming by being immensely organized in backing up files to multiple drives and having back up plans in case of power outages, ect. Their attention to detail throughout the entire process, including travel, provided me with the confidence that we were gathering the material needed to produce a high quality, film that will be used around the world at educational and NGO conferences. In addition, Infinitree edited 150 plus beautiful photos from our travels for a photo gallery that will be used on the website for the client. The disposition and color of the content is outstanding. From my experience, Infinitree Media creates intrinsic value through their integrity and commitment to projects. I felt supported during the project by their confidence in the completing the task at hand and their steadfast demeanor as we worked to find solutions to particular challenges of the project. I would recommend Infinitree Media for a multitude of services as they are capable and flexible. I look forward to working with them in the future.

Jason at Posi Creative Photography has such an amazing talent for capturing ‘moments’ which is exactly what you want on your wedding day. He beautifully captured the formal photos by being highly organized. Jason also captured the natural fun and excitement that is so important to be documented. Jason's ability not to miss a moment is incredible, and his energy and passion comes across in the photos. We could not recommend Jason more

Not too long after Leo started Moon Studio, I had my first experience as a session player at the original basement studio. I was very nervous but Leo's mellow vibe helped me get through it! Since then I started and ran two audio recording schools and recorded 20 albums of my own music. Thanks to Leo, I figured out early that everybody is nervous when they show up to record, especially the first times, and to have the engineer be a down to earth mellow person is key in getting everyone on board. I use this same technique today with all the Nashville Cats at my studio in Music City. Thanks, Leo for getting me off to the right start! Tommy Wiggins, Nashville, TN

In a word, Ossian is professional. Everything stems from that. He's knowledgeable, has the equipment needed for projects and delivers the final product in a timely manner. Never missed a deadline. I worked with him on two specific audio recording projects as well as tv show/video production projects and hopefully will have the opportunity to do so again. I highly recommend Ossian's and DoubleOmedia's professional services.

I've worked with Jack on two audio projects: an audio mastering of live recordings of our Choir, and a later equipment RFP for the sound system at our church. In both cases Jack has been flawlessly professional, helpful, transparent, and creative. He's easy to work with, and understands both needs and budget when making decisions. I enjoy working with him very much, and trust his knowledge and skill completely.

The impossible Install is now Installed. I was told by Best Buy and about 3 other contractors that my Surround sound couldn't be installed, Because I live in a 3 Story Home and the audio needed to be on every floor. (Home was not pre-wired) Alex came in said it would be a full day's work with some helpers but he would get it done. After I saw 8 speaker holes cut in my sheet rock, I'm not gonna lie I was a little worried. After about 10 hours they finished putting audio in 4 rooms and a 7.1 surround in one room all ran off the same Denon Rec. I can control the system with my I-phone and RTI remote. If I was to move to another state I would fly these guys and put them up in a nice hotel just to make sure I got the job done right. I even got a holiday card from them!

Zach Peterson Productions (and Zach) is one of the best vendors I have worked with thus far when it comes to video production. ZPProductions delivers effective, creative and high quality output within a solid time frame, and reasonable rates. Two standout attributes: 1. Other than the obvious experience, talent and skill of Zach, the principal, is a sincere customer service attitude. He listens well and truly engages with the client. 2. Zach takes time to understand not just the objective of the video, but the mission of the organization behind it. Often, we work ad hoc with vendors and this essential part of the process can be overlooked. We just head straight to the outcome and vendors simply want to fit their creative treatment into specific orders clients like myself, are only too willing to provide. I am a collaborative marketer, counting on the input of the specialist (vendor), in the creation of the output. That's where ZPProductions' approach makes all the difference. I highly recommend Zach and his outfit.

Chambs was an exceptionally great engineer and producer to work with. He listened well to our abstract ideas and turned them into a sound we could be proud of. Chambs not only has great skills and equipment, but also the ear to make them do his bidding.

    About

I've been working with video for nearly 10 years, and in that time I haven't stopped learning. I was trained in every phase of the filmmaking process, and that understanding is extremely helpful in informing the decisions I make as a post-production specialist. In addition to comprehensive training, I've also learned to fill several post-production roles like edit, color, and motion, which allows me to wear multiple hats and help you simplify the finishing process for your video without needing to hire extra hands. I personally work in post-production, but I have a network of video professionals available to me and can put together a production team if you are also looking for someone to shoot your footage for you! Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
