Having my HP computer since 2009 & a recent laptop purchase and not being electronially savy at all w/ constant pop ups, viruses and slow I needed help! I found and hired a "Top Notch Tech" Steve A. Strong through Thumbtack. That very day Steve was able to take my computer diagnosed and fix in 3 days! I must say how fare the price was of not only fixing my problem but also some very needed professional lessons on passwords,malware and technical ways to easily navigate for me a senior person. 7months later I bought a smaller desktop for me as I was giving my older one to my newphew. I needed my information, pictures etc. Transferred from old to new and with a trustworthy person which I got in Steve. One more point. In going to his home I felt very welcomed by both Steve & his wife Caroll. I would recomend and I have, Steve to all my friends, family & co-workers! Thanks Steve

I had a computer build that wouldn't turn on. I took it to general Technics and he was great. I was walked through every step, given advice on what replacement parts to buy (I had fried every major component of the system). Steve was not only prompt but patient. Due to my finances this simple build ended up getting stretched over several months. He was understanding throughout the entire process and gave me a fantastic price for his services to boot. I will be bring all future technical repairs to this man.

I've never work with someone as honest as Steve. We couldn't find what was wrong with our PC, however Steve took a look and only found a couple of malware. He informed us that the computer didn't show any hardware or software issues and did not crash on him. He could perfectly said that something was wrong and charge for an extra part or who knows, instead he was honest with us, update our antivirus and was very professional and kind. Would hire him again in the future.

Steve is Awesome, as a person and also his knowledge of computers. He saved my important things out of my totally virus infected computer and put it on discs for me. He spent alot of time trying to save my old computer and spent time talking with me about protection and options to consider in getting a new computer and also about building me one in the future. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge a flat rate for all the services that I provide, plus the cost of any required hardware and/or software needed to complete the job. I feel that a flat rate is simply more fair to the client than an hourly rate. We offer a 10% discount to all currently-serving and retired U.S. military personnel, currently enrolled students, and seniors.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I first interview my new client on the phone to get a preliminary understanding of their problem and the surrounding circumstances. Next, I meet with them face-to-face to gather more information, and I ask them to duplicate the problem, if possible, while we're together. Then at this point, I give my client my evaluation of the problem, its likely causes, and an estimate of the time needed to fully complete the diagnosis and repair (the price is, as always, a flat rate and already known). I also inform the client if it will be necessary to purchase any additional hardware or software to complete the repair. Lastly, if I'm at the client's home or workplace, I determine whether or not repairs can be completed on-site. Then I get to work!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
A+/N+/Security+ training, over 20 years of experience in PC/LAN support, 5+ years Help Desk experience, continuing study and education in Windows and Linux systems, software, and support.
