Introduction: The Voice Art Studio is located in South Minneapolis and is currently open to new students, both young and old. It is never too late to learn to sing! My basic philosophy with voice is that we are all born with one that is uniquely yours, and therefore uniquely beautiful. We are born with a song in our hearts and some of us just need a little help discovering how to make our voices sing the songs that we hear inside. I look at my role as voice teacher as that of a guide to finding what is inside of you. Singing should always be as comfortable and relaxing as meditation. Technique, Emotional Connection and Meditation are the foundations of my teaching style. I use these foundations for all levels and work with beginners to professionals working in the fields of classical to popular music. Nothing in the world gives me greater joy than seeing a voice student discover something they didn't know exists within. The voice is a deeply personal instrument; sometimes, it can frighten us to display it, but, ultimately, the goal is that you discover the beauty and wonder within. I hold a Master's degree from New England Conservatory in Boston in vocal performance and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in music with an emphasis on classical and operatic technique. I have perform consistently in both the classical world as well as the symphonic and operatic metal world (a style similar to Evanescence) with bands in Minneapolis and Austria. I've toured North America, Europe and China with these bands as well as wrote my own songs with them. I have done guest vocal work for musical groups in France, Germany, Argentina, US, Norway, Belgium, Czech Republic and this list grows every day. I currently sing in three projects: one metal, one ambient/ethereal and one for recording classical songs. I've created the libretto and written an opera, written and recorded ten full albums, performed on two DVDs, and sung as a guest on ten additional albums. Because of this background, I also have much experience in the music business world of recording studios, record labels, self-financed projects and touring to offer my students. Classically, I have performed with local organizations such as Theatre Latte Da, Thursday Musical, the Schubert Club, Twin Cities Opera Scenes and Coro! I teach voice both in person to local people but also through Skype to students across the globe. Currently I have students in the US, Australia, Europe and South America.

Melissa really connected with my needs and goals, and I got a lot out of my first lesson. I look forward to many more!
