I have been working with Bennett for about 2 months now and am very happy I contacted him. I am pretty new to fitness and have never been a regular gym goer. I always had some excuse in the past, but I became tired of not having the energy to keep up with my kids. Bennett has helped me with my mindset, confidence and persistence in working toward my fitness goals. I was a bit nervous to contact a personal trainer since I’ve never really gone to the gym with any regularity and didn’t know what to expect (plus Jillian Michaels and trainers like her scare me), but Bennett has been the very opposite of those stereotypical personal trainers. For one, he is an excellent listener and wants to know your goals and your body’s trouble areas. He is careful not to push too hard and is very keen on safety. Most importantly, he does things the right way, with the whole picture of fitness and diet and proper form and safety. He will meet you at whatever stage you are at and work with you to increase your health and fitness. One of his favorite expressions is “For now,” as in “Bennett, I am having a hard time doing this exercise.” “For now,” he’ll say, pointing me toward a fitter future. I see a lot of the reviews are from people who have been working with Bennett for 4+ years, so as a newbie I am speaking to people just now considering (or who have hesitated to consider for whatever reason) working with a personal trainer. Bennett is an excellent person to get you on your way.
I have been doing Jay's "Boot Camp" class for over three years now, and I believe he is one of the most experienced and committed trainers around. I really enjoy the variety and challenge he puts into our classes. He encourages us to push ourselves and not just "breeze" through the hour. Bill Israelson and Ascension Fitness Training have been instrumental in helping me to loose 50 pounds of pudge and replace it with functional muscle mass. My son and I train with Bill 3 times a week and always come away with a great workout. There are a number of things that make Bill and Ascension Fitness the ideal selection for your training needs. First, Bill calibrates the training regiment to be specific to each individual and he is readily able to work around any impediments. For example, if you have knee problems like I do, Bill will work around that and arrange a training regiment that will improve overall fitness without causing further aggravation of the condition. If you have a specific training need, such as to support martial arts training or preparing for "Tough Mudder" event, Bill and Ascension Fitness will help you prepare. Second, Bill has flexible training hours to ensure that you always get your training in. Life gets busy sometimes and Bill will do his best to work around your schedule. Third, the workouts vary greatly from day to day and week to week. Bill also frequently introduces new exercises. This dynamic keeps the training sessions interesting and avoids the monotony so often found with other trainers and fitness programs. Forth, and finally, Bill's training method attracts individuals committed to their physical fitness. As a result, there is a supportive and contagious comradery with others training at Ascension Fitness. Where do I begin?! Jon is hands down THE BEST personal trainer (and coach!) I've ever had the opportunity to work with. You should just hire him, but I can give more details and tell you why.... As a woman, I'm kinda picky and try to be careful about who I work with, but Jon is a trustworthy, safe guy to be around. I know he's happily married and an awesome dad to three kids ... the kind of guy who volunteers at his kid's schools and coaches their sports teams. He rocks as a person... And he really rocks as a trainer! Jon has helped me lose 15 pounds, helped me build muscle (love!), taught me a TON about nutrition and exercise, and he makes working out fun and efficient. I'm a busy working mom so I don't have time to waste! He holds me accountable (which I need!) and cares about me as a person. He's been my trainer for several years and I wouldn't go to anyone else. He listens and he's great at customizing workouts that help me reach my goals. He really knows his stuff and is happy to answer all the questions I have. He may not be the cheapest trainer in town, but you definitely get what you pay for in this industry. He's the BEST. Hands down. And if anyone is looking for a baseball coach- he's awesome at that too! My son improved by leaps and bounds after working with Jon. Since he's a dad himself, he just "gets" kids and knows what motivates them. If anyone needs running training, he'd be the guy for that, too. I'm not about to run an ultra marathon like Jon does (haha!), but if you want to do any races - like even a 5K, this is the guy to call! He has a nice gym in Edina and is also available to train people around Maple Grove. Great equipment at both locations. I bet he's open to other ideas too. Give him a call! Zach and Erik are the trainers you want. You see these guys and how much passion they have for their business . Erik is my personal trainer and I can honestly say there is nothing bad to say about him or zach you maybe can't do a workout because of an injury they will modify it so you can do it or find a completely different workout that will work. These guys treat you like your family yes they will push you to your limits but there in your corner to watch you succeed because if you succeed they succeed! I have never had a trainer who is so up lifting I have been going through some medical stuff and these 2 are always checking to see how things are going and telling me they are in my corner. I was in a spot where I was unhappy with myself and my weight and these guys put their hand out and helped me get to a spot where I feel good about myself. I highly recommend these 2 for anyone who is struggling! They will change your life!! Big Thanks to Zach and Erik!
Melissa has been my fitness trainer for the past 10 months. I am in her exercise classes 3x weekly, and I have also participated in two 12-week challenges with her. She is very knowledgeable about both physical training and nutrition. She challenges us to do our best, but always provides alternatives for anyone with an injury or other condition. We have both men and women in our classes, a wide range of ages and fitness levels, and everybody gets a great workout in every class. I am not the most fit person, and I really appreciate that she often modifies a workout so that I am able to participate fully, even if I am sometimes unable to completely do some exercises. Melissa has been a very good coach for the 12 week challenges, as she knows a lot about nutrition as well as exercise. She is very organized, and encourages us to plan and prep all our meals. She provides menus, recipes, organizational tips, even coaches us through our vacations and celebrations which tend to derail our best intentions. She understands this and helps pull us through the lapses to get back on track. During the time I have been training with Melissa, I have lost 17.5 pounds and dropped 8.2% body fat. I am stronger, have more energy and look much better now too. If you’re looking for a trainer who is friendly and understanding but one who will challenge you wherever you are on the fitness scale, I highly recommend Melissa Jansen.

Lauren has been my personal trainer for the past year. During this time, I've lost 30 lbs, gone from a size 10 to a size 4, and increased my muscle tone to a point that I never thought was possible. What sets her apart from other trainers that I've worked with is the unique combination of strength and cardio that she incorporates into the workout. Her exercises are fun, constantly changing so you never get bored, and they burn fat and build muscle all at the same time. We've been training for two weeks and I am already very satisfied with the results. I have been lifting on my own for 10+ years but had recently been experiencing lots of back pain, so I decided to get someone who knows what they're doing to correct some issues. Sarah has taught me new exercises to keep the pressure off my back while still getting a full workout. She is in the process of correcting years of my improper lifting form and it is a much smoother transition than expected. I have had no back pain and feel exhausted as ever after a workout. I would definitely recommend her services.
I started training with Dylan in September. I told him my goals and I what I was looking to work on and he made it happen! I have lost 12lbs since February! When we started training I wasn't able to even do one pull up and in a few weeks I was able to do one and now I am repping 5!
