I had Gold Leaf Tree Services grind 7 stumps and take down an ash tree. When I came home from work, all the work was completed and all debris was gone. My yard looked great! I would have them out for tree work again.

We started lawn service with Green Lakes this summer, and we are very pleased with their work. The yard looks great, and even though we are only signed up for mowing, they trimmed some bushes that needed some attention. That's the kind of service that puts them at the top of my list when I have more landscaping projects down the road.

Kim and her team designed and installed a woodland garden at my home. I couldn't be more pleased with the way it turned out. Kim is creative, hardworking and fun to work with. This was a large project, and I felt that the price she charged was very reasonable. I highly recommend Native Eye Landscapes.

If you are looking for a garden that will flourish for years, honors nature, and sustains our environment, then Giving Tree Gardens is an undeniable choice. Thoughtful care and design will be taken to provide you with the garden you envision. I engaged Giving Tree Gardens to install two large gardens that are thriving, and received professional advice on how to maintain my existing landscaping as well. I have also been happy with the ongoing maintenance service and am intending to hire them again to install an even larger butterfly garden and fire pit.

About

Every designer brings a unique perspective to his work, especially contractors who design for clients. I've noticed how quickly most designers will provide input to clients, before considering all the elements in play, simply to "get the job done." Most clients don't even realize this is happening if they don't have a design background. As a designer, I have the unique opportunity to influence and encourage my clients in one direction or another. When I work with clients, I withhold my design input as long as possible and gather as much info from my clients as I can. Afterwards, I then try to understand as much as possible, why YOU gave those answers, and with couples, try and discern what you both agree on, and where you disagree. It is this initial step of questioning, listening, and consulting YOU first, that I begin with. From this point, I then start to work the magic of putting the pieces together, creating pathways, spaces that are functional, building surroundings that you will enjoy, and crafting spaces that you will love. I always present you with two initial designs, completely unique from one another, and then we begin the process over again, and I consult with my clients to understand what they like and dislike. After this final consulting face, I weave all the elements together and present you with a final design. This process has worked tremendously every time.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.
