Michael May is an excellent guitar teacher. I started with Mike recently and not only has my playing already dramatically improved, but my overall knowledge of how music works has greatly increased as well. Michael has a great ability to make very difficult concepts understandable, and he is well-prepared for each lesson. He is also a superb guitar player in his own right. I have taken guitar lessons at Twin Town, Blackbird's, several private instructors I found on CraigsList and am also currently taking a Minneapolis Community Education guitar class. He knows exactly what I am looking to obtain from lessons. He also does a fantastic job of making sure I understand where he is going with the lesson (and future lessons) and makes sure I fully understand before moving forward.

Michael May is the best music teacher I have ever had, and I have had some very good ones. He is able to relate to where-ever his students are coming from and adapt his lessons to suit each student exactly. His musical intelligence is out of sight (and again I have known and worked with many, many good musicians as a singer). i really can not recommend him highly enough. He is a gem and we are very lucky to have him in the Twin Cities. With his work ethic and incredible musicality he could easily compete in a market like New York City or Chicago, but he is a family man and his family is here. That makes us the lucky ones. I am proud and happy to recommend him to anyone looking for music instruction.

Michael is a wonderful teacher! He has taught my son guitar for two years, and my son has improved tremendously -- he is now in his high school's top jazz band. He has gained so much knowledge about jazz theory and music in general from Michael, and he is always eager to go to his lessons (and that's rare!).
