Oh my gosh! What can I say? Ray Raines did an amazing job! Ray not only cleaned my carpets, he: cleaned my air ducts and events, cleaned my tile and grout, resealed the grout, cleaned three fabric chairs and sofa. He always arrived in a timely manner and was always prepared. Very reliable and responsible! Their prices are very reasonable. I would highly recommend amazing restorations!

Found Torrance on Thumtack, and very glad i did. The noise coming from the return vents was disturbing, since my house is for sale and i have potential buyers walking thru. Torrance checked the furnace and blower, found no major mechanical problems, but continued to determine the source of the noise, and found a quick solution thru a process of elimination. The whole visit was less than 45 minutes and the price was VERY reasonable. Torrance and his helper were considerate and very thorough in the approach to the problem. I would recommend On-Call Heating & Cooling highly. Thanks Torrance.

Steve was very honest, forthcoming and professional. We had hired him to clean the HVC ducts & dryer vent. He went to all vents, took pictures & determined that the ducts did not need to be cleaned as it would be a waste of my money. He did a great job on the dryer vent & spraying the ducts with germicide. Prompt, courteous, reasonably priced.

They were very polite and explained what they were about to clean and how they were going to do it. At some points in their cleaning, they even showed me things they saw and took care of. When they were done, the vents looked great and you could not even see a crumb on the floor. I am very pleased!

The staff and crew were extremely professional. They cleaned out all our ducts, even showed us the results of what came out, we were very impressed. After a lot of research and time spent on trying to find a reputable company, I'm glad I went with AdvantaClean. These guys were really good, I would recommend them to anyone thinking about getting their ducts cleaned. - Drew N.

My dog had an accident on my new "special cleaning instructions" couch. After several calls to confused dry cleaners and expensive upholstery cleaners, I was introduced to Jim at Aim through Thumbtack. Jim reassured me he would be able to take care of the pet smell and the "special care" would not be an issue, all at a very reasonable price. My couch smells great and is better than new! I highly recommend Aim for upholstery cleaning, and if I ever need carpeting and/or air ducts cleaned, I will contact Aim!

My first experience with Action Restoration was when my parents basement flooded. I called later in the evening and they were still able to get someone out to the house, which was amazing. It was a pretty stressful evening for the family but was made so much better because of Action Restoration. They were all very empathetic to the situation and spent the time to figure out what the root cause of the flooding was and fixing it the right way vs. just getting in and out. i was so happy with the way we were all treated and the level of service provided that I called when my husband and I bought a new house and needed the air ducts cleaned as well as the carpet. Once again, the level of service was top notch. I really appreciate the pride they take in doing an excellent job and answering my numerous questions along the way. I was so surprised how clean they were able to get the carpets - they got stains (and smells too) out that I thought would never come out. So at this point they were 3 for 3 - five stars all the way...service as well as cost (they are affordable AND excellent). Needless to say, I was excited when Josh mentioned that they could provide additional services such as painting. So, I gave them my list of rooms I needed painted. And yet again, exceptional service and a job well done. I have used several companies in the past to paint and have been ok with the results. After having Action Restoration paint, I will never paint again or have anyone but them paint for me. I have had several friends and family members over and make comments on how good they did and wanted to know who I used. In addition to the painting they have also made several needed repairs to the ceiling. There were a few spots I was concerned might have been from previous water damage and not fixed correctly. Without asking, they checked for moisture and let me know there wasn't any. Just another example of how they always provide exceptional service and make sure the job is done the right way and not just in and out to move on to the next. In addition to providing exceptional service that is affordable, they are trustworthy - they are the only company I have have been comfortable with having at my home while I am at work or even out of town. They have made several stressful situations (basement flooding and new house repairs and updates) so much better in various ways - I wish other companies and people were as professional, empathetic, customer focused, trustworthy, and affordable as Action Restoration!

Bruce has replaced all of the Vinyl siding and trim around our house, as well as the gable vents and gutters. The job was done on schedule, at a very fair price and we couldn't have asked for a better look in the completed job. When we had questions, he had answers. Accurate and concise. We then had him come in and fix some brick damage that occurred when some big dummy (myself) backed into the piller at the side of our attached garage. Again, after a few questions he completed this job with the same quality of work... (he even cleaned up some brick work from a previous job we had done). The person that did the previous brick work in the back of our house left it in an unfinished condition... but Bruce did not... he completed that persons job too! We have now scheduled him to re-do our bathroom. He allows us to call him with questions as they come up. Now with his help we have all of our ducks in a row. He has accommodated us in the timing of this job so that he will be doing much of the work while we are on vacation. This will help to minimize the inconvenience factor of doing without our main bathroom. To sum up Bruce's work, attitude, and professionalism in one word I could only say awesome !!!! Glad we have you as our go to guy Bruce. Thank You.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How long does it take to get your ducts cleaned?

The amount of time air duct cleaning takes can depend on how extensive your duct system is, how old your air ducts are, and whether they have ever been cleaned. On average, expect a standard size home (between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet) to take 2-5 hours for one to two technicians to clean. Here are the proper protocol and equipment you should expect from a professional duct cleaning service, as recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency:

  • All doors and access ports opened to ensure the entire duct system is inspected and cleaned.
  • Thorough system inspection prior to cleaning to identify possible asbestos-containing materials. If asbestos is present, specially trained and equipped contractors must do the removal.
  • Use of approved vacuum equipment that exhausts particles outside of your house. If the vacuum exhausts inside your home, it must be HEPA equipment.
  • Furnishings and carpet covered and protected.
  • Soft-bristled brushes only on fiberglass duct board and sheet metal ducts internally lined with fiberglass.
  • Ductwork properly protected.
  • Adherence to guidelines and practices set down by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association.

How much does it cost to replace air ducts in a house?

If your air ducts have been damaged, you’ll need to replace them. The national average air duct replacement cost is $150-$280, which may not include materials. Factors such as duct material, labor, location of ducts and linear feet of ductwork will all affect your final costs. Labor costs will vary based on how accessible the ducts are and what material your ducts are made of. The least expensive duct material is a flexible, non-metallic ducting that costs approximately $1-$2 per linear foot. Flexible aluminum is generally more expensive and stronger than non-metallic ducting. Stainless steel ducting is the strongest, the least flexible (meaning installing it typically has higher labor rates), and usually the most expensive. An average price for air duct replacement could range between $35 and $55 per linear foot, including basic materials and labor. A typical single-family home has 6-10 duct runs; replacing or installing one duct run could average $150-$250 for labor.

How much does it cost to have your air ducts cleaned?

If you’re concerned about dust, allergens or mold, it may be time to have your air ducts cleaned. The national average cost for air duct cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Air duct cleaning costs will vary based on a number of factors such as your location in the country, the age and condition of your air ducts, the number of linear feet to be cleaned, and any repairs your ducts may need. HVAC cleaning companies should clearly outline what is included in their services and at what rate, so always make sure you understand and have a written agreement before work begins. Here are some examples of average air duct cleaning costs:

  • Tiered pricing for different levels of service:
    • Standard cleaning: $100, which may include truck-mounted industrial vacuums, high-pressure air wands and air snakes to clean all supply and return vents, branch lines, and main trunk lines.
    • Advanced cleaning: $200, which may include standard cleaning services, plus rotobrush or viper clean sweep in the main trunk lines.
    • Ultimate cleaning: $400, which may include advanced cleaning, plus insertion of a viper microline into all vents to force debris down the branch lines and into the main trunk lines, to be handled by the viper clean sweep. Typically, all ductwork surface is contacted, before-and-after photos are provided, and the furnace is cleaned.
  • A flat rate for unlimited vents: $289.
  • Additional fees for larger houses: $20 for each additional 500 square feet over 2,500.
