FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$50 per lesson, hour lessons. No materials or late payment fees. Day-of cancelations are charged or offered makeup lesson.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Lessons usually start with a warmup song and then we go through our folder and pick out focus areas from our repertoire. This means playing through our song printouts and figuring out where we get stuck or what the hard parts are. We’ll break down how to practice those skills and use muscle memory drills to focus our efforts, tracking your personal best times along the way. Throughout our meeting the main points and useful links are put into our google drive lesson document for reference later on. Working song by song we aim to be playing along with the song recording at half speed, three-quarter speed and eventually full speed either with others or on your own. Along the way we’ll use fretboard diagrams, scale patterns, pitch-matching games, formal and informal music notation, and a variety of backing tracks and video links to practice better to play better.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
1. I remember the rush and thrill of playing music with my friends as a kid, learning on my own from magazines and CDs and stuff. Playing in a band is some of the most fun I’ve ever had - time goes by pretty quick for me when I’m playing music. 2. I also remember my obsession with trying to understand the rules of music theory in college. I remember the feeling of being so completely lost in my jazz improvisation classes and going to my first few private lessons as a result. There’s tremendous value in having another person around who can show you things and explain stuff - I’ve learned that it’s necessary. “Babies don’t learn to speak English by talking to other babies.” - Victor Wooten
