FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We talk by phone to answer questions and get a general idea of what the client wants. Assuming all goes well, we meet in person to be sure The WoofHouse and the dog are a 'good fit'. We only accept a few dogs at a time, so we are glad to provide references to other good sitters.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a lifetime of studying, taking classes, and caring for dogs. My experiences include helping two momma dogs whelp their puppies, and then providing training for the pups and finding them good homes; working with Support Dogs to rear and train a Support Dog Puppy, as well as volunteering with my Spaniel to provide dog therapy to residents of retirement homes. I've fostered and trained and helped find homes for hundreds of rescue dogs. Dog care and training have been an integral part of my life for more than 20 years!
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My love for dogs is one of my earliest memories. I begged neighbors and friends to let me watch or walk their dog. When I retired as Missouri Botanical Garden Library Director, I began fostering dogs for fun, which in turn led to my current dog sitting business. I also loved reading and learning from an early age. Librarianship was my first career, including 20 years as Library Director at the Missouri Botanical Garden. While at the Garden, I began volunteering with SUPPORT DOGS, providing dog therapy at retirement homes, plus fostering and training a SUPPORT DOGS puppy. After retiring from the Garden, I began fostering rescue dogs and working as a sitter for FETCH, a professional dog sitting service. When I realized the need to earn my retirement income, WoofWoof came into being. In April, 2011, we moved to our present South County home, which we had canine-customized to accommodate our doggie guests in style and comfort. We have lots of rooms separated by half doors so dogs can have personal space if needed, without being isolated; our grooming spa; comfortable nap spaces; and relaxing music. Our two yards, each with its own doggie door, gives dogs space to run, play, socialize, and nap. WoofWoof is a doggie vacation destination! We opened our grooming spa in 2012. Our Professional Groomer Lori is a talented groomer who trained and worked at other shops for 12 years. Now she wants to establish her own spa business at the Woof House. She takes the time to give each dog the best groom to bring out its most beautiful self. Take Advantage of Our Sit n' Groom Specials!
