My job entailed getting rid of nearly all the furniture in our den, eat-in kitchen, sitting room, dining room and foyer, then creating a totally new look; with a mid-century-modern look "sprinkled" in. I had decided before meeting Charissa that any changed piece of furniture would be authentic MCM. After Charissa and I discussed this new look, she developed an overall plan that would allow me to find and furnish the MCM pieces; however, with her design expertise, she'd say "yes, that works with the plan", or "I'm not a fan of that particular item". (Her professional way of letting me know that my selection was too off base to purchase!) The plan allowed filling in the final touches for the decor, lamps and 2 rugs which compliment the MCM flair. Her advice, guidance and design plan have allowed me to really enjoy doing some of the shopping and has enabled me to "see" the design without putting all the decisions on me. After all, no one hires a designer if s/he can figure out the desired look on her/his own! Charissa has the personality and the communication skills to assure, and reassure the homeowner that the design plan will yield a look (and function) that fits the other aspects of the home, and reflects the homeowner's taste. Over the years I've had 2 other designers to assist in re-doing the look (think 80's & 90's) of our home. I can honestly say that Charissa is by far, the best I've worked with. I have absolutely no complaints, and will/have recommended her to others. Charissa is the real deal!! Kathleen, Cary NC

Charissa is helping me redo a beach house, including working with existing furnishings, purchasing new furnishings (rugs, furniture, window treatments) and helping with the design of bathroom, kitchen and storage updates. I love working with Charissa because she takes the time to understand my tastes and then helps me to get the designer version (better than I could do on my own) of what I want. She is willing to help with all types of projects--she even helped me select frames, lay out, and hang a very cute picture wall.

FAQs

How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been designing since about the age of six. I would rearrange my furniture in my bedroom, all by myself. Often my Mom would come in to find the room totally rearranged. In the fall, I would use the leaves to make house plans in the yard. Designing is what I was created to do.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
As designers, by nature I believe we are people pleasers. We want your space to be fantastic for YOU, not us. If the client is open, and willing to do brief design assessment in the beginning, the better job we can do for them.
