Girl Friday was on time for our appointment, listened to my needs, went to work on the house and did a great job! She was very thorough and when she finished, the rooms were fresh and bright. We will have a regular schedule in the months ahead. I also plan to use her experienced assistance with events at my property in the future.

Meredith was an amazing sitter! I could not have asked for a better experience for not only myself but my pets. I tend to stress and worry about my pets anytime I have to leave them and Meredith eased my worries 110%. She was always very prompt and kept me well informed about my pets the entire time. I asked a great deal of Meredith and she surpassed my expectations. I have two massive labs age 4 and 2 who can be a huge handful on occasion as they get very excited. She was able to walk them with ease and they absolutely loved her. One of my labs requires daily medication on a very strict schedule because of epilepsy. Meredith was able to administer her medication with no issues and keep her on her schedule. Not only that she was able to also take great care of two cats. One being born a feral cat is very picky with strangers yet warmed right up to Meredith with no issues. Did I mention I also have a large bearded dragon. She was able to feed him and keep up with the cleaning of his tank. Last but no least she was able to maintain a very large SALT WATER AQUARIUM! Which required not only feedings but keeping a close eye on water levels and testing the elements in the water to maintain a safe environment. Point blank she is amazing. We have a small zoo and she ran it to Perfection. Everyone was happy and healthy when I returned home. I will "FUR"EVER be using Meredith for my sitting needs. Meredith was well worth her price if not more. Thanks again for everythingMeredith!

Cherie came to our house 3 times a day for our two babies to potty and spend time with them. She was really good to our dogs. She provided us with pictures and updates, which was thoughtful and put our minds at ease. We would use her again in a New York minute!!!

About

With over 20 years of loving experience owning my own pet sitting service, first in Boston for 10 years and now in Hendersonville, NC, for the last 11, I still love every opportunity I have to take care of pets. I do small dog boarding in my home in a fenced-in l/2 acre lot or in your home. I also walk dogs, visit/play with your cat, give insulin injections, fluids under the skin or whatever medications your animal may need. When you call I will set up a free initial meeting with you where I can take an in-depth history of your animal and its needs. Additionally, I can provide excellent references from people whose animals I am presently taking care of on an ongoing basis.

About

Hey guys, my name is Rachel and here are a few things to get to know me better. I'm an Animal and Veterinary Sciences major with a prevet concentration; since I was a child I have been caring for dogs of all shapes and sizes. My pets have always been an immense part of my life and have greatly impacted my career path, and have pushed me to spend time volunteering at local animal shelters to help the pets who have yet to find loving homes. I am the parent to a 1-year-old Huskimo named Ava and I love taking her hiking, to the dog park, to the lake, or simply running around the neighborhood. I value her exercise, exposure to the outdoors, and overall wellbeing, which is the basis of care I hope to provide to other beloved pets as well.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

How do I find a reliable house sitter?

House sitting can help keep your home safe and well cared for so you can be worry-free while you’re away for work or play. There are several steps you can take to make sure you hire a trustworthy house sitter and do your part to be a responsible host. One of the best ways to ensure a safe home is to hire a professional house sitter. Here are some key points to look for when hiring a house sitter:

  • Reviews and referrals: When searching for a house sitter, always read reviews. Previous experiences will indicate how the house sitter will care for your home while you’re away.
  • Contract: Sign a clearly written contract outlining services to be provided (e.g., mail in each day by 5 p.m.), the daily rate you are paying, and how long the services will be provided. You can also include any agreed-upon house rules in the written contract.
  • Your part: Leave important phone numbers (vet, emergency contact, etc.) and information on where to find emergency items like the circuit breaker and the fire extinguisher, and have a credit card on file with the veterinarian in case of emergencies if the house sitter is watching your pets.
