Introduction: I offer a non-traditional, liberal approach to music lessons. It's my belief that teaching appreciation and love for music is as important as teaching scales and other music theory. Rather than assigning a strict, specific curriculum like many other teachers, I encourage students to have a say in the songs they learn. Students are more likely to stick with lessons if they're playing music they like rather than traditional, boring pieces. However, students will still be taught all the fundamentals of music theory. My curriculum is more flexible than strict, and can be altered to the individual student's needs as I get to know him or her.
I'm particularly passionate about teaching piano because it is the ultimate gateway instrument. A solid foundation in piano will give your child a huge advantage in future music studies. If a student learns piano and the basics of music theory in elementary school, it will be very easy to transition into a wood or brass instrument once concert band is offered in middle school.
I've taught kids as young as seven and as old as seventeen, so I am open to teaching any age past kindergarten. I can also teach a wide range of skill sets, from students who have never touched a piano to older intermediate students who have already had a few years of lessons.
I encourage parents to be involved in the learning process. I'd love to meet with you to discuss your expectations and ultimate goals for your child. If you would even like to sit in on parts of lessons to learn with your child, that would be great.
Currently, I am living in West Asheville. For now, I can only teach at your home, but I am moving into a new apartment at the start of February and will then be able to teach from there.
Thanks for reading. I hope you will consider me as a potential piano instructor!
