Their part of overall project ($40,000) had many sub projects (Carpentry, windows, screens, pop corn removal, wall paper removal , painting, tile, decking, clean out attic and garage, misc repairs). They started many projects to draw down cash, were very slow to finish any. Project was to take 60 days, actually took closer to 180 days. They were messier than all the other contactors (we also hired during the renovation :HVAC, Electrician, Plumber, Flooring, Roofing, and Granite). We found we had to have one of us stay home, when they did decide to show up for work over security and property respect concerns. Still cleaning up 30 days after they were dismissed. Dismissed contractor and rehired one of the subcontractors to try to finish up uncompleted work on shoe string budget since contactor already drew down most all funds. Project was 80% complete and 95% of budget. Ended up having to provide transportation and additional funding to get project to 95% done and 115% of budget. Sub contractor had better work ethic than contractor. Overall work ethic erratic, sometimes diligent, sometimes totally lacking. Although the initial pricing was fair after you factor in the overruns, time, and having to personally manage the project. The real cost was more like 170% of budget. As far as quality of work goes I would rate it at 75-80% after many redo's.
