A HUGE Shout out to Ellie! My dogs are petrified to get their nails done. This wonderful groomer does house calls and came over today to cut the dogs nails. It wasn't just that - She was loving and kind and her focus was on the dogs to make sure they were comfortable. I think it was the first time that Riley didn't pee while getting her nails done !! We even have a trimming plan to attempt to get them more comfortable.. Wonderful Experience

Our dog, Stella, loves Lynnette and so do we! Lynnette does more than just walk Stella- she really treats her like she was her own pup. I feel so lucky that we have Lynnette. She is prompt, reliable, and great with all pets. I highly recommend Furball Friends for all of your pet care needs- from dog walking and cat sitting to even overnight stays. Thank you Lynnette for all that you do!

When we moved to Raleigh, one of our main concerns was who we would find to watch our dog when we go away on vacations. From asking around our building downtown, we found that Raleigh Pet sitters actually walks quite a few dogs in our building. Before our first time using the service, Cindy came to our place to meet us and our pitbull, which of course put my mind at ease for 2 reasons. 1- we wanted to know who is caring for our baby, and 2- who is going to be in our home. In the past year and a half , we have had Ariel, who unfortunately has moved on to greener pastures, but thankfully replaced by Jessie who is just awesome with Isys! We have gone away about a half of a dozen of times, with no worries or concerns while we are away. I especially love the notes that they leave us about how every walk went while we were away, and love the pictures that get sent to me of her playing outside. Thank you Raleigh Pet Sitters!

Absolutely hands down the best pet care takers I have Ever had. I have Two puppies , a golden doodle (large) and a havanese (ex small) and a really busy work life. I needed A pet sitter for over night stay last minute. Within an hour last minute and Jen the owner texted me back within minutes and worked me Into her busy schedule, her daughter Amiya had watched my dogs and stayed over with them, they are the loveliest people I have Ever met. It’s scary leaving your dogs and house with someone you have never met but these ladies are the most trusting animal loving good souls I could Have ever hoped for. Not only that but they are super affordable and keep you updated through out the day and night she even sent me pictures of my pups. I will ONLY use them for future sitting needs for my dogs. I highly Highly recommend and wish I could Leave a higher star rating than 5!

Sarah kept my dogs for two weeks and we were very pleased with the service provide. We especially appreciate her understanding our unanticipated arriving home at 3 am—where we found her sleeping on the couch because she had washed our sheets! The house was immaculate and our dogs were happy!

Sherrill has been fantastic. My pups are not the easiest to work with - one has some fear issues. But Sherrill takes the time to make my pups comfortable. She is dependable, competent, and so easy to work with. If you need for a pet sitter, give her a call, let her meet your pets and see if you disagree - I don't think you will!

Teachers Pets was very quick to respond to our request for services. They talked with us about our animals and helped us chose the perfect sitter based on our animals’ personalities. Our sitter sent us great updates assuring us all was well with our home and fur babies. Our house was left in perfect condition, just how we left it. All services were provided punctually assuring our pets were not having to hold it or be by themselves for too long. Paying was also easy! The entire process was positive and easy going. We definitely would recommend Teachers Pets!

Emilio is a gem - he is extremely responsive and reliable. I have two cats and I have left them with other cat-sitters before, or in the care of friends when I was on vacation, but I always worried about them. Not so with Emilio - I know they are in great hands. I would highly recommend Awesome Pets Care for long-term or short-term pet-sitting.

Shelayne is a wonderful pet sitter. We were gone from home during Hurricane Matthew in 2016 and she drove through torrential rain and flooding to get to our pets. She is thorough and carefully documents your pets needs and any concerns you have about being away from critters. We have dogs, a cat, and two parrots and she cares for all of them well. Our parrots, especially, can be finicky and Shelayne took the time to get to know them so they wouldn't be naughty and not let her change their food and water! We also appreciate the clear communication and text messages we receive when we're gone and she sends us updates.

My dog is my baby. Crystal and the folks at Wag the Dog have cared for him since I brought him home four years ago, and I wouldnt trust anyone else with my home or my pet. Their care, compassion and attention to detail is beyond compare. Crystal is always professional, and the sitters are AMAZING!! The scheduling system is easy to use and most importantly I can rest easy when I travel knowing that my dog and my home are in great hands. There simply is no better pet sitter.

Having had issues with both, pet sitters and boarding in the past we were somewhat skeptical of the Thumbtack concept and process; however, Joan's background, experience and demeanor made us much more confident and willing to give it a try for our two most picky kittens during our week long vacation. She was easy to work with from initial contact and throughout. At the introductory visit she took detailed notes and asked all relevant questions as well as being very open with answers to our own. She exudes a caring attitude along with a genuine caring for both, animals and all aspects of her work with them. She was also quick, with a willingness to offer and include extra little touches of service, beyond the basics in order to make sure the home as well as our pets were taken care of. Flexible in accommodating the schedule and routine we needed her to follow, she visited on time, as promised and completed all duties exactly as arranged. After each visit Joan took the time to email a reassuring update. Through her thoughtful communication it was comforting to know things were in the capable hands of a true professional and caring individual. We are very pleased with our decision to hire Joan who will certainly be top of our list when next we travel. We are happy to recommend her services to others whatever your pet sitting needs... Joan is a treasure and great value for money with level of customer service so sadly lacking in this day and age... We feel confident you will not be disappointed.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. Hello, we are relocating to Cary, NC. I'm just starting my search to find a pet sitter for my 20 pounds of fury (American Eskimo Dog--needs warm up time, barky little guy, reactive to strangers but warm and cuddly when you get to know him). We plan to spend some weekends at the beach and would need someone to come to the home and let him out in the fenced backyard (not walks as he is reactive to other dogs), feed him and cuddle a few times a day.
