I hired Chris to come fix a project started by another carpenter that wasn’t coming out the way I had hoped. Chris and his crew worked long and hard to redeem my project as much as possible. I appreciated Chris’s thoughtfulness in figuring out the best way to save as much of my original investment as possible. Will definitely hire Chris again

Jose and his team did an excellent job installing baseboards and cove base for me. I had just under 300 linear feet of baseboard and cove base(installed as shoe mounding) I needed to get cut and installed. Jose was responsive in the bid/estimate process and was able to schedule me quickly within the week. Jose showed up on time and they went right to work getting the job done! I am very pleased with how the baseboards and cove base I had installed turned out -if I have any more trim work or house work/carpentry in the future, I will definitely be using Jose and his team.

They were on time. They did a fantastic job and were very quick about it. The quaility of their work was out standing. When they left the work site was very clean. I would recommend J&J Woodworking anytime. I am cautious to go on line for services or products, but I was extremely pleased how well the process went.

My experience with Danny went exceptionally well and was everything I wanted and expected from a professional Master Woodworker. Having been a Machinist most of my life, I knew my project would require the knowledge and experience someone like Danny possesses. I spent over a year acquiring a 10-piece professional chef’s series of kitchen knives one or two at a time. They were very expensive knives, hence the reason it took over a year. I wanted a nice custom knife block that would not only match the quality of the knives, but also add beauty and elegance to the distinctiveness of the set similar to how a frame complements an Artist’s painting. Danny came through way beyond anything I ever expected! He created a work of art I could only imagine! The wood grain of the outer Zebrawood flows beautifully around each side of the block. The Walnut where the knife slots are located contrasts perfectly. The logo on the lower front is an amazing added touch that matches the logo on each knife. I was floored the first time I saw it, and I can’t believe I actually own this gorgeous addition to my kitchen countertop! Now I need to upgrade my kitchen just to be deserving of this knife set! I’m sure Danny can help with that as well. Working with Danny was very easy. He knows how to listen and make suggestions. He makes sure both people are on the same page and that expectations are clear from the beginning. If you’re on a budget, he can help with that. If you have a high-end project utilizing exotic hardwoods, you can expect professional results. My project did involve exotic hardwoods and therefore was not cheap for a knife block. The Zebrawood alone cost over $100.00. However, I didn’t expect budget pricing on a project like this. The final result was easily worth the final price. The included pictures speak for themselves, and I highly recommend Danny Budnick for any project involving wood.

He is quick and efficient and everybody loves the different pieces that he is done for me from Custom woodwork to Furniture repairs to unique wood pieces. I am always pleased and I highly recommend.

Amazing carpenters. Pictures do not do justice of the work done on our home, arbors and custom gazebo (which is a must see). They turned our average home into a home straight off a southern plantation with all the details. The goal was to have people actually believe the home was the original house on this old farm we bought. The columns, panelled porch ceilings and crown are stunning. Strangers have no idea the house is only 5 years old! We will never use any one but A Royal Touch Custom Woodworking.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.
