Our medical practice's original website was in dire need of a makeover to elevate it into today's world with search optimization, ease of operability, and a more aesthetic look to draw in our targeted audience. We did not have a huge budget that could absorb the cost of fancy web designers and all their bells and whistles. We did not need fancy bells and whistles. We needed something clean, simple, easy to navigate, and easy to update as needed. When we found Dru and Pinwilz-Unifiweb we knew he could provide us with what we needed at an affordable cost. Long story short.... we did get what we needed and we are extremely pleased with the outcome. Dru worked with us as we navigated through all the design elements and features that we felt important. He also educated us on utilizing search engine optimization and how that tool meshes with marketing development and strategy. I would highly recommend Dru for any small company web needs.

I chose Seasons Home Staging over others because Sandy Miller provide a clear, concise plan for staging my home. She sent an email with pictures of her design plans with pieces that she would use and color schemes. She came to my home and went from room to room coming up with the staging plan. She was able to stage the home with great success and all reviews from buyers were outstanding. I would definitely recommend her!

I worked with Hewbie Marketing Agency (HMA) as a Web Designer/Programmer Intern for about 6 months. I was in the process of changing careers and looking for experience in this field. HMA provided me the opportunity to learn new skills, educate me on best practices, provide learning material, and gain first hand experience building and designing websites. I was able to find a full-time web developing position and can honestly say that if it wasn't for this internship and the generosity from Andrew and Kyle at HMA I would probably still be struggling to find employment in the field. As an added benefit everyone at HMA is great to work with and there is never a dull moment in the projects or tasks you may be doing.

With creativity and enthusiasm, Kay has guided me through my last four projects. She's handled the design of a new home from the ground floor to completion, the complexities of a substantial downsizing, the extensive renovation of a thirty-four year old vacation cottage, and the recovering of sofas to modernize their look. Each has been an absolute joy and turned out beautifully. Her talent for bath and kitchen design is unparalleled, her taste is exquisite and she's a master at completing projects within budget. She always fulfills her promises, communicates every step of the way, and finishes her work as scheduled. She manages with great ease situations that I find daunting. When it comes to design work, I will always have Kay on my team.

We are a full-service graphic design firm with over 15 years of experience. We are focusing on print and web design.

Since 1995, I have developed and refined my talents in illustration and graphic design. I specialize in apparel graphic design, with experience in ticketing and hang tag design, logo design, and promotional and presentation media. I have had the opportunity to design for great brands such as Target, Kohls, Adidas, and Carhart, as well as graphics for bands such as Thousand Foot Krutch, Building 429, Fireflight, and Third Day. What sets me apart from others is my strong illustration skills, and the ability to adapt to a multitude of art styles and looks. I pride myself in my creative work, and strive to raise my own standards with each fresh design. I look forward to working with you to give your product the advantage it needs to elevate it above the competition.

I'm a freelance graphic designer who, since 2003, has worked with clients all over North America, including Chicago, Toronto, New York, and the West Coast. My focus is on print design, music and film packaging, and small-scale web design and development, and I put my sharp wit and keen eye to good use on copyediting and typesetting. I am highly skilled in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and code standards-compliant HTML/XHTML/CSS. I will gladly work one of two ways on website development: craft a design and then work hand in hand with programmers (of your choice or mine) to see it completed, or, for small-scale sites, design and code it to completion myself. The rural farmland of Archdale, North Carolina is where I call home, but it's a big, wide world out there, and I work over the Internet and phone just about everywhere else. I'm currently booking projects throughout the year, so say hello and send an offer my way!

I have been specializing in branding through print, video, and web design. I am proficient in Photoshop, After Effects, Dreamweaver, Final Cut Pro, Illustrator, etc.

I am a Greensboro/Triad based WordPress web designer. My career began in high school where I created websites for my friends and family. Since then, I've been dedicated to creating eye-catching websites for clients of all kinds.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a web designer?

Your website is often the first thing your customers see when they’re searching for a business or service on the web. As the face of your organization, your website needs to be attractive and functional, offering the latest features that users now expect. To plan and design a site that both reflects your company’s mission and values and appeals to customers takes a professional web designer. While free online services can help people set up websites, web designers can provide a unique solution made specifically to meet customers’ personal or business needs.

Most web designers offer a wide variety of services to make your website aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. Modern web design must be mobile-friendly and scalable, capable of expanding to include a blog, social media sites, and even video streaming; web designers are experts at integrating various web technologies. They can build the site, add functionality, test it, launch it on a live server, and track and maintain its performance.

In addition to web design and graphic design, some web design providers also offer development and security services, including search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing and management, logo design, site maintenance, domain registration and hosting, protection against malware, and digital marketing and content services.

    What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

    • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
    • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
    • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
    • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How much do web designers charge?

The average cost for hiring a web designer varies greatly depending on the scope of the work, which may range from building a site from scratch to rebranding an existing one, as well as the amount of content and graphics the designer will create. In general, the more complex the project, the more time the design agency will have to spend. Because web designers often work on an hourly basis, the longer the project, the higher the costs; you can count on the web designer spending at minimum 10 hours to create a very basic website with just a handful of pages with few elements. Prices also depend on the designer’s skill set, the process, and the company’s rates. In general, the national average cost for a basic website package starts at $500, but a customized website can cost as much as $2,000 or more. Here are typical average hourly rates, broken out by the complexity of the work:

    • Basic layout and user interface: $15-$40 per hour
    • Content management system design: $20-$50 per hour
    • Custom website design with custom code: $45-$75 per hour

What should you look for in a website designer?

A professional web designer creates the look and feel of your website, collaborating with you to choose colors, creating logos and other branding materials, establishing page layouts, and creating sample pages. An important part of web design is making sure the site is functional, meets your goals, and is easy for users to navigate. When you’re looking to hire a web designer, start by reviewing the person’s portfolio. Look for samples of work that match what you envision for your website, including experience building the types of pages or features you want. Make sure the web designer is familiar with your industry and understands both industry trends and web design trends — an old-fashioned or out-of-touch site will turn customers away rather than intrigue them.

Because web designers tend to work as freelancers on a project basis, they must be excellent communicators, willing to manage their own work, and available on your schedule. Some critical skills, such as working collaboratively and responding enthusiastically to feedback, aren’t core to good web design, but make working with a web designer much easier. Finally, look for a web designer who has cross-functional knowledge, such as understanding marketing and conversion rate optimization in addition to web design.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
