Performing beyond all expectations is just the start when you hire Jim. I asked Jim to build a very complicated custom cabinet and he came out measured relentlessly and came up with a phenomenal design. Within three days Jim built the cabinet, and stayed all day on a Saturday with me to make sure it was 100% to my liking. Of all the trades I have ever used, Jim stands head and shoulders above everyone. His work is second to none, his attention to detail is in a class by itself, but most of all, his tireless care for his customers’ needs is where he really shines. I am lucky to have found Jim and will use him as long as I have jobs to do. Hire with confidence.

Great experience. On time, organized, proactive. Raj even called the manufacturer of my furniture to be sure he had an understanding of how it was to be assembled. He will be my go-to handy man and furniture assembly person!

Mr. Evans installed a few can lights and added a chandelier to our dining room. He was great from start to finish. He was able to come 2 days after we spoke and completed the work in just a number of hours. He cleaned up after himself very well and was pretty quiet considering all the work he was doing. I would definitely recommend him to anyone. In fact we are going to have him come back to install under cabinet lights in our kitchen.

Dave helped tear down an old porch railing and then built us 8x8 columns, to our exact custom specifications. They came out beautiful! He did some repair work on our siding as well. He facilitated getting my house and shed painted using a local painter and I was very happy with the final product as well. His style may seem a bit laid back / not-hurried, but he works alone (generally) doing most jobs himself, so the work may happen slower than having a team of people crawling all over the house, but the quality was worth it. We wouldn't hesitate to use him again on our next project.

Erin did outstanding work from start to finish. I hired him to do a lot of work which included crown molding, a custom reach-in closet, custom pantry, custom master closer, paneling in the downstairs entry hall, and improve the shelves in my laundry area. Erin asked me a lot of questions about what I wanted and then crafted something so outstanding and amazing it blew my mind. I had no idea my pantry and closets could turn out as beautiful as they did. Everything is perfect and beautiful beyond words. The price he charges is extremely fair. He completed the work in three days. I then used the painters he recommended, and they took two and a half days (there was a lot to paint!). The painters did an exceptional job as well. Erin is very easy to communicate with and responds very promptly. He is friendly, organized, and professional. You just won't find a better person to do this kind of work.

We hired Millwork Design Solutions to design and build some custom wood furniture including 1) an artist's rolling work table with a hinged lid and drawers and 2) a custom hobby bench. We were extremely pleased with the results. Quality work at a very reasonable price. Moreover, they were very punctual. We currently have another date set with this firm for additional work.

None of the other options responded as fast as Carpentry Solutions. The others responded with the basic email reply but Ricardo was ready to come and analyze, estimate, and get to work. Also the other options were not including caulking or painting for my wainscot and crown molding. Carpentry Solutions was a one-stop shop and it was completed in 2 days. Great job and thanks!

I have had a variety of work done my Suburban Renovations including tile floors, backsplashes, misc. flooring, electrical, lighting, door/frame installation, custom shelving, and a custom garage loft. Dave is very detail oriented and does outstanding work. He has a great eye for color & style suggestions and I trust his judgement. Finishes work like he would for his own place, no corners are ever cut. Takes great pride in what he does.

Reversible Renovations built a wheelchair accessible bathroom and remodeled an adjacent room to make a bedroom for my husband, who has a traumatic brain injury and uses a wheelchair. Richard worked closely with my husband's physiotherapists to design the project. Richard also provided a very detailed quote for the job. Heather, the designer, worked closely with me to choose the tile, fixtures, cabinetry etc. A custom sink was designed to accommodate the wheelchair but it also looks beautiful. A terriffic site manager did a lot of the carpentry and coordinated the other trades workers. The quality of the work was top notch, the project came in slightly below the estimate, and was done before expected. An added plus was the way each of the workers cleaned up after themselves and took pride in quality work. They were willing to make changes as they worked on the project to accommodate issues that came up, like an existing doorway that was too narrow. I can't wait to have them back to redesign my kitchen to accommodate to my husband's needs once he reaches his highest recovery point.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

    How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
