Our experience with this company has been awesome to say the least.. since day 1 when we first met Kimi for the initial quote, we could tell this was the company we wanted to work with. Kimi was professional and upfront about everything from the start. She assured us that if we decided to move forward with her company that we would be taken care of no matter what, and she was not kidding. We had just purchased a new home right before Christmas, and Kimi was able to provide us with flooring installation for the entire home and finished a day BEFORE Christmas Eve, which enabled us to get into the home right before Christmas morning.. that alone was a huge plus and unexpected. After our floors were installed, it turned out that the laminate was defective. The carpet in the bedrooms and LVP in the bathrooms looked great, and the all around installation looked great.. but we noticed a wax build up on many of the laminate boards, a defect from the manufacturer. I emailed Kimi right away and she took the time on Christmas Eve while she was away with her family to call me and tell me that they would take care of everything, and not to panic.. her reaction to the situation kept me calm and grounded. She told us to go ahead and move in, that they would move our furniture around when the time comes to redo the floors. She continued to provide us with excellent customer service and went above and beyond to make sure we knew we'd be taken care of. Fast forward a week or so and I get a phone call from Kimi saying that not only was our claim accepted from the manufacturer, but that she had fought to get us better floors and won. We got to go out to her showroom and pick a new top of the line floor to be installed at no extra cost to us! The help we received while in the showroom was wonderful also, very professional and all around great customer service. We went from 7mm laminate to 12mm hand scrapped laminate all because Kimi went to bat for us.. amazing. Our new floors are being installed today by the co-owner himself (Kimi's husband) to ensure all goes well. They even had Shaw inspect/QC every single board before shipping to ensure the product had zero defects. When Kimi tells you she will be the least of your worries, she is not exaggerating. Even with the defect and the short wait from Shaw, it's because of Kimi's professionalism and awesome customer service that took this experience from being a good one to an amazing one. I would recommend this company again and again.. it has been a fun road working with Kimi and I cannot wait to see our new upgraded floors! If you're looking for a flooring company that stands by their product and workmanship, goes above and beyond for their customers and provides an awesome experience, look no further.. Kimi's Carpets Plus is the best! Thank you to Kimi and your whole team for being so great!

I was thoroughly pleased with the work completed by Mr. Lopez. He was very professional and punctual. He rescued me from my impulsive DIY project and made my inexpensive laminate flooring look high end. Mr. Lopez was very detail oriented in all areas where the laminate was installed. I would definitely recommend him for laminate flooring installation.

We contacted Chris initially regarding replacement of broken floor tiles in our 16 year old home. Despite his and our best efforts, replacement tiles could not be located. We opted then to replace the entire bathroom floor with wood-look ceramic tile. His workmanship & professionalism were both top notch and his price was reasonable. In order to meet the agreed to timeline, Chris & crew worked well into the evening. We recommend Doerner Family construction and will likely use again.

Finished an unfinished 2 car garage. 3D hung sheetrock, replaced an exterior door, installed window trim for 3 windows and painted everything. Good job overall with only a few very minor quality points which would have made it perfect.

I had a concrete floor installed in a large metal garage. the ground was very uneven. Nayser came out and leveled the ground and poured my pad. He did an excellent job. It is hard to find people that take pride in their work. If you are look for someone to do concrete work Neyser is the person for you. He does a good job and can be trusted. I am planning to get more work done.

We hired Omar to install 850 square feet of engineered hardwood flooring. Initially planned on floating the floor but then decided to glue it down per his recommendation. He was very hardworking and got the job done quickly (even staying late into the evening to get it done). We made an error and didn’t order enough flooring but Omar happily came back to finish the job when we got the second box in. Would definitely hire again!

I relocated out of state and in the interim I put my house for sale. My realtor showed me some estimates without remodel. After reviewing the comparables in the area I decided to put some work into it and am I glad I did. Like many of us there was a budget to stay within. Pondered my options for a short while then I hired Alan to do some bathroom remodel, painting, deck, tile work, laminate flooring, and a variety of small jobs including electrical and plumbing work. When the projects were completed my husband tried to talk me into keeping the house because it looks so nice LOL He traveled quite a distance and did a great job. What I was equally impressed with was after his work was done he stuck through the entire inspection process for my closing. The house was only on the market for 4 days and I received full offer. Pretty impressive to me. Good listener, nice work, and just as important Alan had that old fashion work ethic. Took pride and showed up when he said he would on all occasions. I think he was just as concerned in my budget as I was even when he was purchasing supplies for me. I am definitely grateful to had found someone affordable and hard-working who actually cared and did a great job. I would definitely recommend Alan Melton.

Repair water damage to kitchen floor. Install ceramic tile to kitchen floor. Bryan and his crew were very professional. they prepared a detailed proposal prior to starting the job. He suggested replacing tile squares with ceramic tile which was a leap of faith for me. The job is beautiful. He repaired the water damage, cleaned up his work and was on his way while keeping me informed all the while. A job well done and much appreciated.

I had originally called Mike to do some sheet rock work, but then found out he also does plumbing. I had my whole house replumbed and the bathroom ceiling replaced. The work looked amazing but what really impressed me is that a few days later I found a small leak and called Mike he was over my house that same day to stop the leak. Mike and his wife are very people friendly and take the time to listen to your needs. I have had a lot of problems with plumbers in the passed doing poor jobs and over charging me I'm so glad I found them. I would highly recommend them.

They offered the absolute best price out of all the folks we contacted to install laminate flooring in the downstairs of our home. I had a certain style of laiminate in mind and they were actually able to guide me through the purchase of it through their vendor at a much discounted price. I think i was able to get as much as 10% off of what we had originally expected to pay. I definitely highly recommend them!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
