The four guys who came to move our things were kind, efficient, good natured, and capable. They went out of their way to make my family’s move feel effortless, so that we could focus on the other details that always accompany moving. We initially ran into a scheduling snag, due to a missed email, but luckily the scheduling mistake was rectified and the most important part- the move itself- went smoothly.
They brought a big truck and filled it with items from our 1200 square foot, three bedroom home, efficiently moving us from North Carolina to Florida. It took the team the better part of a morning to pack up the truck, with every person working hard the whole time. They showed up with a big cooler of gatorade and worked steady from 8:30am (I was given an arrival time between 8-9am) into the heat of an early July day. Despite the heat they were all good natured, and clearly enjoyed their work. When I tried to empathize with one guy about the heat, he just replied with a smile "Beats a desk job!"
Following packing the truck, the guys took the afternoon off and then drove the 8 hours to Florida the next day. On the third morning they were at our new home at 8am sharp, and moved everything exactly where we wanted it into our new home. Our new home is on stilts and has a difficult staircase, but that didn't bother these guys. They also had the heart to move the dressers in our bedroom three times because my husband couldn't make up his mind about where he wanted them to go. Essentially they went above and beyond, taking their work seriously and making our out-of-state move feel more awesome than moves usually feel.
In response to the other person's review who stated that this company damaged his things, my only thought is that he either had different movers or this company has truly learned its lesson. Every single one of my important furniture items was wrapped in plastic and/or blankets for secure moving. Absolutely nothing was damaged during the move, except a cheaply made $10 side table from IKEA that I thought might not make it anyway. I made sure that I went through the house and showed them the furniture that was most important to me (mainly antiques that don't look like much, but have sentimental value). I had multiple guys check twice with me to make sure that they each knew which pieces held the most sentimental value, and they in turn treated them with care.
Additionally, I packed our most valuable items in our car for safe-keeping, but from the way these folks carefully packed the truck I felt confident that I could have left even my grandmother’s jewelry in their hands and it would have been very safe and secure. I was worried about a big 3x4 piece of hand-painted artwork getting moved safely, but I didn't need to be. The artwork that I had these guys move actually arrived in better shape than the artwork that I moved myself in my own car!
I've moved myself across country from Virginia to Colorado to California to Massachusetts to North Carolina, and every time there were things that I packed that didn't arrive in tact - that's just a part of moving. However, American Moving and Hauling did a much better job than I ever have at moving my own things. It was so nice to pack up the house myself and then see a team of happy, capable, professional locals move my things. I can't tell you how nice it was to see them roll up my carpet, tape the doors closed and wrap up my furniture, take apart the heavy dining table, and move everything with care (and in record speed). What a gift and a joy!
A big thank you to everyone who supported our move from American Moving and Hauling!! What a great way to support local business, by supporting a woman-owned company where the tough guys wear hot pink t-shirts that proudly proclaim that a woman is their boss. Best of luck to this company, and I hope that their business continues to thrive.
