The four guys who came to move our things were kind, efficient, good natured, and capable. They went out of their way to make my family’s move feel effortless, so that we could focus on the other details that always accompany moving. We initially ran into a scheduling snag, due to a missed email, but luckily the scheduling mistake was rectified and the most important part- the move itself- went smoothly. They brought a big truck and filled it with items from our 1200 square foot, three bedroom home, efficiently moving us from North Carolina to Florida. It took the team the better part of a morning to pack up the truck, with every person working hard the whole time. They showed up with a big cooler of gatorade and worked steady from 8:30am (I was given an arrival time between 8-9am) into the heat of an early July day. Despite the heat they were all good natured, and clearly enjoyed their work. When I tried to empathize with one guy about the heat, he just replied with a smile "Beats a desk job!" Following packing the truck, the guys took the afternoon off and then drove the 8 hours to Florida the next day. On the third morning they were at our new home at 8am sharp, and moved everything exactly where we wanted it into our new home. Our new home is on stilts and has a difficult staircase, but that didn't bother these guys. They also had the heart to move the dressers in our bedroom three times because my husband couldn't make up his mind about where he wanted them to go. Essentially they went above and beyond, taking their work seriously and making our out-of-state move feel more awesome than moves usually feel. In response to the other person's review who stated that this company damaged his things, my only thought is that he either had different movers or this company has truly learned its lesson. Every single one of my important furniture items was wrapped in plastic and/or blankets for secure moving. Absolutely nothing was damaged during the move, except a cheaply made $10 side table from IKEA that I thought might not make it anyway. I made sure that I went through the house and showed them the furniture that was most important to me (mainly antiques that don't look like much, but have sentimental value). I had multiple guys check twice with me to make sure that they each knew which pieces held the most sentimental value, and they in turn treated them with care. Additionally, I packed our most valuable items in our car for safe-keeping, but from the way these folks carefully packed the truck I felt confident that I could have left even my grandmother’s jewelry in their hands and it would have been very safe and secure. I was worried about a big 3x4 piece of hand-painted artwork getting moved safely, but I didn't need to be. The artwork that I had these guys move actually arrived in better shape than the artwork that I moved myself in my own car! I've moved myself across country from Virginia to Colorado to California to Massachusetts to North Carolina, and every time there were things that I packed that didn't arrive in tact - that's just a part of moving. However, American Moving and Hauling did a much better job than I ever have at moving my own things. It was so nice to pack up the house myself and then see a team of happy, capable, professional locals move my things. I can't tell you how nice it was to see them roll up my carpet, tape the doors closed and wrap up my furniture, take apart the heavy dining table, and move everything with care (and in record speed). What a gift and a joy! A big thank you to everyone who supported our move from American Moving and Hauling!! What a great way to support local business, by supporting a woman-owned company where the tough guys wear hot pink t-shirts that proudly proclaim that a woman is their boss. Best of luck to this company, and I hope that their business continues to thrive.

Though I ended up cancelling the project Winston-Salme Moving & Storage did call to followup and confirm that I no longer needed their service 1-2 days prior to my move. I thought that was professional and courteous.

This company was hired primarily as loaders. I was moving out of state, and had a 20ft UHAUL RENTAL. When they arrived to load, Mr. Cooper walked through my two bedroom, two full bath apartment, and eye balled my very large furniture, washer/dryer, closets, and 60+ boxes. The truck I had was too small! He recommended that I exchange for a 26 ft. I'm so glad he was knowledgeable because it saved all of us major issues (time/energy ). By the way, I lived on the third floor, without an elevator! He was on time, professional, handled my belongings with care. Very personable and strong customer service skills, affordable fees. Hard workers, no lagging around. A man of his WORD! I highly recommend Cooper Moving & Hauling Service! You will not be disappointed!

Faith and Glory movers provided a very professional, quality moving experience and treated my items with extreme care. They were very pleasant and communicated idealy. Moving from a 2nd floor apartment across town to a 3rd floor apartment was not an easy task, but they handled it with ease and precision! Great values and highly recommended!

There was a hiccup in scheduling initially, but, once that was worked out, everything went great. The moving crew was professional and knew just how to move a 600lb piano down stairs that included a twist at the bottom. I would recommend Ahlgrens for moving pianos and other big furniture. The value could not be beat.

They work hard. Got on time, but went back for getting bigger truck and came back in 1 1/2hours. That's why I put 4 stars. They brought more people later with no charge because moving was taking longer than we thought . I paid exac amount of money based on the quote he gave me plus tip. They dessemble and assembled every furniture in perfect shape. Nothing damaged. I and my husband are very satisfied with their job. Thanks Adams.

WOW!!! Ryan and Tim did a terrific job moving my family. We moved from Greensboro NC, to Plano TX the company packed our belongings loaded/transported/unloaded our belongings with not ONE problem. Our belongings were delivered on time, and Ryan assembled all of our furniture and also did an excellent job with furniture placement and unpacking. I was really nervous about this move since i'm in a wheel chair, BUT TMC Moving went above and beyond to help me. My car was even towed (over 1,600 miles) with no errors. REALLY impressed with this company and will use services again, very few moving companies that go above and beyond like this company did!!!!!!!! Thanks Guys, Sarah.

Chris and Josh were terrific in loading a moving truck for my mother. The truck was packed carefully and pictures were taken. They packed a 16' truck in 2 hours. Anthony was very responsive to all requests. This is my second move with College Hunks Moving. I would highly recommend them.

I wish I could give 10 STARS because Frankie (a.k.a. "my new best friend") and his crew blew my expectations out of the water. They were EXTREMELY professional, called to update me on times, always showed up when they said they would, were exceptionally respectful and careful with our belongings, and went above and BEYOND (i.e. took things to Goodwill for us, picked up things from our storage facility, took trash out for us) to make our move from North Carolina to Arizona as stress-free as possible. Frankie is seriously the hardest working man in the moving industry and has the most positive attitude (SO welcome during the stress of moving). He is experienced at his profession and takes obvious pride in everything he does and in providing the highest level of service. I just can't say enough about the excellent, professional job he and his crew provided and how much we appreciate everything he did for us in this move. I would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone. THANK YOU, FRANKIE AND STAFF!!

I initially has so much doubt about the company as they don't have any reviews or no information I found on the web. But I have taken the risk of trusting them. Today I can say wholeheartedly that they did a wonderful job. Everything Ontime, professional and even asked us to help if we need anything else. I have checked all the moving companies available locally and well known movers. Nobody has given me that low price quote as they did. I recommend to try this startup and you will never leave their service in case if you move in future. Professional -10/10 On time - 10/10 Safety to the goods - 10/10 Helpful - 10/10 Economic

Working with Jessica and the Home to Home team was extremely easy. The movers did an extremely careful and quality move. I would easily give 5 stars for my satisfaction if not for weather related delays that threw off the schedule.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
