We had a phenomenal experience with Lu. I was a little nervous hiring our wedding photographer from this site, but it was the best decision I made. Lu took our engagement pictures as well as photographed our wedding day. She was always professional and prompt. She was more than helpful and was willing to try anything we wanted. The pictures ranged from fun and flirty to poised and proper. We come from a very large family and she was able to direct everyone to get all of the shots we wanted. Lu does a great job keeping everyone calm and encourages you to have fun. I will continue to use Lu for any photography needs we may have in the future!

Amy was my wedding photographer for my engagement session and my wedding. She did an INCREDIBLE job!! My husband and I are extremely satisfied with her work, attention to detail, and professionalism. I am very picky about photos but after our engagement session there were so many that I loved!! She is very easy to work with, professional, and punctual. I love how much she paid attention to details when posing people. I can't wait to see the photos from the wedding because I know they are going to be amazing. I would highly recommend Amy to be the photographer for any wedding!!

Jeff did my bridal session and also my wedding. I haven't seen the pictures from the wedding yet but the bridal portraits were amazing! It almost feels like he should be taking more pictures but he definitely gives you just enough QUALITY shots that take your breath away, instead of a ton of mediocre shots that leave you wishing for more. I would also recommend Jeff because of his easy to get along with personality and quick responses. I emailed back and forth several times with him and he made me feel comfortable so that when meeting for the first time to do the photos, I felt at ease as if an old friend were taking my picture! You will NOT regret hiring Jeff!

Jonathan met with us twice before our wedding. He was professional and interested in our music wants and needs. He created some amazing mashups that kept the crowd on the dance floor from 7-11pm! We asked him to follow a timeline for a toast, a speech and a song. He ensured that everything happened at the right time. We will recommend him to anyone who needs a DJ who truly cares about making your party the place to be!

Jen has always been there to capture every stage of my life - from our wedding (she flew from NC to Puerto Rico to shoot our wedding), maternity shoot, to the birth of our baby boy. I called her the day he was born and she came to the hospital the very next day! She was so excited to capture his first picture! She's so professional, always responsive, and punctual. But what I love the MOST about Jen is her creativity! I plan to use Jen exclusively for years to come!

Stephen is the reason why you hire a photographer for a wedding. Even at last minute he was able to provide quality pictures that are amazing. He is professional and easy to work with. He was such a professional that my wedding planner hired him on the spot for another wedding. Hire him and you will not be disappointed.

Krista was such a delight to work with. She was on time, went from taking my pre-wedding pictures to the house to take my husband and the groomsmen pictures as well. I could not have found a better person that was so personable and kind to do my wedding pictures. Krista made my very wedding day very special and spectacular. She shared pictures with me as she finished them and I cried at the sight of everyone. She even fit right in with all of my family and my in laws. They enjoyed her and we did as well. If you ever need a photographer that has your best interest at heart and will go above and beyond for you as well as give you FANTABULOUS, EXTRAORDINARY PICTURES please contact Krista Bordatto.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.
