Tina was trustworthy and dedicated to our animals and our home while we were out of town. She handled our two dogs and three cats for several days. We felt confident that our animals were in great hands and would recommend Tina for house/pet sitting.

The service that I have been receiving with Leash Life is exceptional. The couple who run the company are reliable, professional, and super nice to beat! I am 100% comfortable with them having access to my home and love that my pet is getting quality one on one time each day while I am away at work. And if the pictures they text me while they are with him are any indication, Scrumpy really loves it too!!

Awesome experience! Tracy took excellent care of my guinea pig and went far above and beyond what I asked of her. I received pictures and updates while I was out of town. She brought him back to my house happy and healthy. Would strongly recommend her care and will certainly contact her the next time I need someone to care for my pet.

We've had great experiences with Happy Tailz! Very trustworthy, caring and professional which gives me the peace of mind when traveling. I have a 6 year old Labradoodle who gets anxiety when left alone or at a kennel. I can tell she is well taken care of by Melody because I come home to a happy and health dog. I would highly recommend Happy Tailz to anyone looking for a pet sitter and/or dog walker.

We feel very fortunate to have met Laura. She is a passionate pet lover. Laura is dependable, trustworthy and has a very strong work ethic. She has been our pet sitter for the past year and we've used her for visits and walks as well as overnight stays. She works well with both cats and dogs~ and we have a very active German Shepherd and a dual cat household (indoor kitties). When we lost our miniature schnauzer this past week; Laura came by to say goodbye since she and Jack had bonded and she was very concerned. Laura goes above and beyond~ you won't be disappointed!

Terry is awesome! We've hired her a few times to house sit and pet sit and we couldn't be happier. We have a house in a transitional neighborhood with an alarm, house plants, a garden, a cat and a dog and she manages everything beautifully. She is responsible, easy to work with and super affordable (charge more Terry!). She is clean and respectful while staying at our house, we really don't see any evidence that she was even there. She gives our home and pets special attention while we are away and keeps notes day by day that are fun to read upon our return. I would highly recommend Terry to anyone who is looking for peace of mind while on vacation and someone that will really take excellent care of the fur babies especially and your home.

When you love your dogs and want to ensure they are well taken care of when you travel, are at work for long days -- there is no one that I feel more confident about having at our home taking care of our Norwich Terrier and Soft Coated Wheaton. When we return -- they are happy to see us, but they follow her around. She is loving, kind and I thinks takes better loving care of them than we do as owners. We had her stay at our home for weeks -- taking care of not only our dogs, but our home and my 90+ year old mom. I highly recommend Marleen to anyone that loves their dogs as much as we do to provide pet care and house sitting. The quality of her work was outstanding. I can't think of a thing that she could have done better. When we go away -- she gives us great peace of mind knowing our place and our dogs are so well cared for.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
