Joyful Movers moved me from a one bedroom apartment in Fayetteville, NC to a two bedroom across town in about 3 hours flat. They offer outstanding prices compared to local movers in the Fayetteville area. I was very surprised at their low mileage rate and hourly fee, both well below moving companies such as Two Men and a Truck. Even with a three hour minimum, I ended up paying a third of the cost of a local mover. The weather delayed them about an hour which I confess is no fault of the movers at all. However, I do recommend they provide some additional follow-through prior to the actual move date. It was somewhat stressful having very little communication with them prior to the arrival of the movers. Bottom Line: Pros. They have outstanding prices, the movers were very quick and thorough, and the customer service was excellent. Cons. There is no official quote or reservation sent out so that may keep you a little uneasy. There is some communication barriers between the office, the movers, and the customer so you may become frustrated on the move day from playing phone tag. Still worthy of 5 stars based on price and quality of work.

Lisa was great and went through everything with me. After going through the estimate process with other companies and having moved 2 other times in the last 4 years, we could really see the value Branch Out provided. There was absolutely no upselling. Some of the options they can provide didn't fit our needs and she pointed that out and didn't try to sell us something we didn't need. On moving day the movers did an amazing job! Top Notch! Walter was very professional and very much in charge of his crew and the project. Jay and Salik were very experienced and really knew what they were doing. They were very courteous and careful. Everyone worked so hard and did not complain even when we realized certain things wouldn't fit in an upstairs room and had to rearrange furniture causing a few extra trips up and downstairs. They really worked themselves to the very max for our benefit.

Juan and his team were great! I looked at a number of moving companies in the area and felt like they were overcharging. I placed the ad on Thumbtack and Juan responded. I read his reviews and thought that he has helped quite a few people. When I talked to him I really liked him. He was knowledgeable but gave me a very positive feeling. On moving day, he was on time and prepared. His crew was nice and respectful. They did such a great job. I would highly recommend Juan and would use him again.

These guys did an incredible job especially with a couple of sleep number beds, one of which had the flexi-fit frame. They were true pros and moved all furniture, boxes with care as to not create damage to either dwelling. Everything arrived pristine. We are very happy and will refer these guys. I am a Realtor and now I can honestly offer my clients a mover referral that I know will be a good experience for them. If we could we would give them 10 stars. We have used many moving companies in the past and by far this was the least stressful experience.

I thoroughly checked for a moving company and couldn't have been more satisfied or accommodated as I was with High Proformance Movers. Matt has a family oriented setup in working to contact and follow through on your moving needs. When meeting up he was very friendly and even though talking to me over the phone about the services provided, in person he talked me through the process of what was being done. My belongings were handled with care and packed with organization. His best friend was very detail oriented and together they worked as a team to get me moved from a storage unit to my place. I felt like a part of the family and would love to hire them again in the future. They went above and beyond even putting together a bunk bed not to mention moving me up 3 flights of stairs! I would recommend this company to everyone! Team work makes the dream work and that's exactly what they did! Bless you brothers! Navasha and Family!

First off, the two guys who came to help were so well mannered and willing to help! My mom and I didn't have to lift a finger. They even helped me put my bed together (i would be sleeping on a mattress if it wasn't for them!) I went thru about 10 moving companies before I settled on campus bellhops. They gave me a great price and made the entire experience a whole lot easier!!

Pat and Justin did an awesome job of moving furniture. They are punctual, courteous, and super professional. I am very satisfied with their work. They took care of my furniture very well by wrapping them up with multiple levels of plastic wraps, and loading and unloading very carefully yet efficiently. You cannot go wrong by hiring them for moving. What also impressed me was that they donate their earning to charity. It is very kind of them doing charity while working hard. You cannot ask for better moving company than this one.

He and Alex were very professional. They came on time, did good job with wrapping our furniture and stacking them in the truck. The unloading was quick. They rolled out a red carpet (;) ) to ensure that our wooden floor does not get spolied moving the trolley.

Exceptional movers and moving company. The movers were fantastic, polite, caring and professional. They were incredibly careful with my things; blanket wrapped all furniture, protected flooring and put things that had to be taken apart back together professionally. From the start to the end, my experience was really wonderful. I highly recommend Pick Up Movers and will be using them again in future.

Bobby runs a fantastic operation. Excellent communication before the move, prompt arrival and efficient use of time. A reasonable hourly rate is all inclusive (truck rental + 2 movers, no hidden fees), and an incredibly reasonable (yet optional) insurance/ liability policy in case something were to happen during the job. The crew took great care of my possessions during the move and were highly professional throughout the entire day. I would definitely recommend The Movers on Demand to anyone looking for moving/ transportation needs in the area.

Lewis and his team were absolutely what we needed for our move and the price was completely reasonable. They arrived on time, packed the Pod efficiently and told us right away that we wouldn't have enough room in the Pod. We coordinated for a second Pod and they rearranged their schedule the next day to come back and get us out of the house on time. He even saved my diamond earring from the sink trap and took away two oversized items we were stuck with that we didn't want and couldn't use. They were a true blessing.

Alex and company are amazing! We were being strung along by our big-name moving company, and needed to be in Missouri to start a new job. After yet another delay, and yet another "guarantee", we were desperate and found AmerApex Moving. Alex contacted us on a Monday and by Thursday, they were there! They were absolute lifesavers, and did everything they could to take care of our belongings and make us feel at ease. And then they were in Missouri by Saturday to unload everything in our new house! On top of that, they are incredibly friendly and made a stressful situation feel much lighter. We can't thank Alex enough, and wish every moving company out there could be half as professional and effective as his!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
