If I could give 10 stars, I would! Courteous, responsive, and very good at what he does! Within just a few hours of my request, A lex was at my home fixing my gutters. Supposed to rain tonight & I can't wait to see how the repair works out. I'm 100% certain it's going to be great! Alex will be my go to guy from now on!

I traveled to Greensboro from Fayetteville to have this roof repair done on a specific day. Sergio called me and was prompt on arriving at the address and after checking the roof, left to get the materials he needed, returned promptly and completed the job. While I called Antonio Remodeling/Renovations for a specific area of repair, Sergio checked the entire roof for me and completed all the areas that needed attention in a couple of hours in one afternoon.

Sal Dalton was a true professional. He came as an emergency to figure out the problem expediently and did great work. When the solution to my problem was out of his level of expertise, he recommended someone of equal ability to get the job done. I'm very happy with my experience. I would definitely recommend steel electric, and I would say I wouldn't trust anyone else to help with the electrical repairs and installation of my home.

I needed a handyman to repair wall tile in bath and install bath fixtures, both of which were challenging. Steve is not only great at problem solving, he's also very versatile. He not only fixed the tile and plumbing for the toilet, he installed the electric wiring for the bath; repaired ceiling damage from roof leak; repaired door frame in bath due to old fixture removal; repaired cracks in walls; painted interior and exterior of house; repaired and painted front porch. His work ethics are admirable. He is on time and cleans as each job is finished. I highly recommend Steve to anyone needing a handyman service! Thank you Steve and Zach!!

Pleasant and patient. We couldn't get our big broken gate open right away because we forgot we had screwed it shut after a storm and it hasn't been repaired yet. JW was so very patient.

Javi showed up to my home the same day I requested him. We were in a pinch and needed our ceiling repaired and painted before we had buyers come in. The previous owners put a wall patch on the ceiling and it obviously failed. Javi came into my home @6pm same day and replaced the patch very quickly. He came back the next day after it dried and sanded and painted my entire kitchen ceiling. I am beyond impressed with the services we received. I will definitely be calling Javi should we find ourselves in need of help again.

I had a job that was mixed with new drywall and patch work. Morse Painting and Repair came in and gave me a great price. Michael Morse is a professional and he does great work. He met my timeline and my budget which was greatly appreciated. I would recommend Morse Painting and Repair to any of my colleagues and friends. I'm this day and age of contractors who will either rip you off or give you a crap job, Morse Painting and Repair is one of those rare companies that provide great work, for a great price and by professionals.

We first met JC and Robinson Construction when they performed major repairs after a tree limb crashed through our roof. They did an excellent job with the roof repair including replacing 8 sheets of plywood, interior drywall ceiling and wall replacement, and additional repairs to a rotted sun room roof and exterior over sized sun room window and supporting structure. Robinson Construction also replaced two sun room sunlights. All work was top notch and completed on time. JC's star performer is his lead carpenter Freddie who is clearly an outstanding craftsman and the key to JC and Robinson's success. We were so impressed with this experience that we then paid a reasonable premium to have JC and crew repaint the home and effect other needed repairs, and install two new doors. The end product was equally impressive but the work dragged on for well over a month, partly due to weather but also due to other job conflicts. The length of time it took became aggravating and detracted from an otherwise positive outcome. Still I would highly recommend JC and Robinson Construction, just make sure you have a strong understanding regarding the timeline for completion.

Excellent job! I am so glad I hired Andrew for replacing my floors. He also does just about anything else you might need and he does it well. Door replacement, drywall, painting, and etc. I have recommended Andrew to my realtor and other family and friends. One of the things that I greatly appreciated was that he was the only contractor that CLEANED UP after himself! Huge in my book. He also would take on any other job that I would come up with. Highly recommend to higher Andrew Key for pretty much anything. I would higher him again without a doubt. Thanks for your help Andrew. Great job!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
