We needed a last-minute heavy moving job and Dustin was there insanely fast (within just a couple hours!). They got our heavy move job, which consisted of moving 5x10 wall partitions, done quickly and efficiently. Great team and I would 100% hire them again for work around our office location.

My wife and I had recently bought a restaurant, but were grossly intimidated by the state of cleanliness the kitchen had been allowed to fall by the time we took it over. Guillermina Aguijo Cleaning took on an insurmountable challenge; bring a kitchen which could easily be featured on "Kitchen Nightmares" and flip it to inspection ready in a day-and-a-half. My god did they deliver on time and on budget. I didn't think anyone could manage it, but GAC did it for me!

I've used other companies before and havent had the best of experiences. With Black Belt, i was told a low hourly cost and informed they have to charge drive time which isnt an issue. Not only did the guys show up early and ready to go not a single thing was damaged. THEY EVEN LAYED BLANKETS TO PROTECT MY FLOORS!!! Im so impressed i will never use another moving company again. These guys worked their tails off and didnt stop running even for a lunch break, untill it came time to put my bed together which is rather tricky as its one of those adjustible beds. I valued their integrity and tipped them with lunch and $40 each. I will definetely be calling them again in the future to get my storage unit emptied out!

Folks, there are professionals, and then there are professionals. If I could give Aaron 6-stars here on Thumbtack I totally would have. Aaron deserved nothing short of a total 6-star rating. Aaron is the kind of professional you want to hire, invite to your home, and trust him completely for the job. Aaron was fair, an excellent communicator, and a detailed perfectionist. Here's a bit of the whole story: Aaron was naturally very good at what he does--there's absolutely no doubt of that--but what made him stood out? It was his dedication to performance, to achieve a perfect outcome, to see the results of his work. Aaron is a perfectionist! An absolutely awesome perfectionist! See, the job we hired him to do turned out to be a lot more complicated than we had originally thought--our old house was wonky and uneven, weirdly angled, and all sorts of messed up--so it was on us (the homeowners) that the job was a lot more than originally proposed. We even felt bad. But Aaron took the time to precisely handcraft the Baseboards to a precise, detailed fit, perfect fit. Why was that so impressive? Because he didn't have to--you see, the homeowners gave up first and was willing to accept a "good enough" end-result because the house was so wonky. But guess what? Aaron continued to perfect it until it was just fabulously perfect! You see, Aaron could have walked away with a 5-star job, right? But he didn't. He was so set on getting everything perfect. Folks, this the kind of professional you really want to hire. I am sure you can find many 5-star professionals out there (and sure, there are many of them out there) But you won't easily come across many 6-star perfectionists out there. Furthermore, Communications - EXCELLENT. Aaron kept us appraised of status, plan, time, and so on every step of the way. Everything was well planned in terms of time and progress. Wow! Fairness - EXCELLENT. Aaron gave a more than fair quote and we felt bad in the end because the job turned out a lot more complicated than we thought. But you see, Aaron wasn't going after the money, instead, he really just wanted to get the job done perfectly and done beautifully. Rarely these days do you find someone who just wants to do a perfect job and not doing it for the money. So, Wow! Past Reviews - all perfect scores! When we saw the initial bid coming across we saw Aaron had perfect score (all 5 stars) from those other homeowners. We thought, well, all those other people must knew something so we hired Aaron too--and now we know why everyone else all gave him 5-star rave reviews! Aaron cleaned up after himself, he did the job well, he was on-time each time, he was respectful of the home, respectful of the time, and he worked well with flexibility, and much more. Again, he is definitely someone you can (and should) trust. We were 100% satisfied and we are 100% going to ask for him again for all future jobs. In short and in conclusion: The best nutshell I can put in the review here is that 1) you won't easily come across another 6-star professional who goes ABOVE AND BEYOND to make sure everything is as perfect as they can be, 2) you won't easily come across someone you can totally trust these days who treats your home like his own. Aaron is someone you should hire. Take my words, folks, we highly recommend Aaron, we would give him 6 stars and give our 120% confidence in him. Trust us!! Professional, courteous, respectful, dedicated, perfectionist, punctual, and very friendly!! P.S. I will put some photos here with the review. The photos do not do justice to the amount of detailed, hand-craft work that was put in. Keep in mind the entire house drywall was all angled weird and wrong, yet the finished baseboard looked perfect. I just want to share with you how much detailed work was put in and how much energy was spent on perfecting these corners. Again, it may look easy but it was very, very difficult!

As a person who fixes things for a living, I understand breakdowns do happen even with the best equipment (remember the space shuttle blew up . . . twice). Even with a truck break down, Dakota Moving provided excellent service and communication, about the breakdown and providing an acceptable solution. The truck came a day later than originally scheduled (due to the breakdown) however the extra day was a really blessing for us to get better packed and prepared to move my 91 year old father. The team members were courteous, professional and CAREFUL with my fathers possessions. I would highly recommend Dakota Moving.

I had an overall great experience with Innerlight Moving. They were extremely conscientious about moving my furniture, they took time to carefully wrap up and protect my furniture that way it wouldn't get scratched or otherwise ruined in the move. They were kind and easy to work with. My one complaint would be the amount of time it took for them to move me. I was expecting that the move would be completed in 3 hours tops - and it ended up taking closer to 5 hours. Not the worse thing in the world, because as I stated earlier - they were being very careful with my belongings, and I'd rather have them take extra time to do that than to have ruined furniture. But the time commitment was something I wasn't anticipating, especially being in a crunch for time that day. Overall, they did a great job.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
