If I could give 6 stars I would. Jay was professional and courteous from the first message when I inquired about a move up until after the move thanking me for my business. I had a specific request - moving a 350 lb treadmill down 4 flights of stairs. Jay never made it seem like an inconvenience and completed the job quickly and with no complaints. He contacted me a few times prior to the move as well, offering to come at earlier times in the week if it was more convenient for me. I will never use another moving company again. You won't regret hiring Jay and his team!

Eric Smith and his helper Miguel arrived a few minutes early and worked non-stop for 4.5 hours. I had a lot of the packing done ahead of time, and they finished the packing and completed my move with no incidents or damage. They were both professional and extremely nice to work with. I would definitely hire Smith Moving Again and would highly recommend them.

We had a great experience with John and John. They were able to perfectly fit our one-bedroom apartment into a small moving truck with no problems whatsoever. They didn't bat an eye when it started to torrentially downpour about 15 minutes into the job - these guys were serious troopers. On time and prompt communicators leading up to moving day. Would absolutely recommend.

These are the best movers we could get. I am so thankful that they did the moving on 27th November considering no one entertains such requests. They were team of 3 and each one of them are hardworking and very friendly. Peter owns up the responsibility and executes with full dilligence. I will defineltly call them for my next move. The move went seamless. The thing i liked the most was they were very thorough, helped in dis-assembling stuff n handled everything with care.

Ken and his crew (Steve & Mike) were prompt, courteous, professional and very reasonably priced. They worked hard and quick - all on a Saturday afternoon. I would definitely recommend DuLong Moving to anyone in need of good labor to move either a short or long distance. I was very satisfied with their workmanship and am happy I chose them. I received first rate service at a cost that beat all other competitors. With their skill sets and dedication to customers, DuLong Moving will go far. ~ Bob C., Lincoln, Mass.

We moved here 2 months ago from NC. Our experience had been quite disappointing. Every moving vendor we used through Thumbtack was subpar and unprofessional...charlatans attempting to do extract every dime they could. This company was the complete opposite. They were prompt, professional, and pleasant. Thank you for not being the status quo in the Boston area. Kudos! I encourage everyone to use this company.

I felt that Keith and his helper Louis did an excellent job loading my portable storage container (16’x8’x8’). The movers were extremely careful and fast in loading the many items (5 room house) that I was moving to Clearwater, Florida. In addition, they carefully packed items (pictures, multiple boxes, bedding, and bureaus) to best maximize space. They were also extremely polite. I have used many moving companies over the years and I can say without reservation that these individuals were the best. I do not hesitate to give them my highest recommendation.

Super professional! They were right on time and got the job time in an impressive time frame while being very careful and mindful of belongings! They were very friendly and very courteous! I've moved 5-6 times all over, have paid twice as much with big time moving companies only to get less satisfaction, professionalism and less courtesy & again less money in the bank account. I highly recommend them to any looking to move, Rates are great and they were exceptional! Highly Recommended! !!

We had the greatest experience with A Perfect Move! Everything was perfect from getting the estimate to the actual move. We had some challenges on our end and had to move the original date and they were able to easily accomodate our request. The day of the move, they were on time, polite, professional and took extreme care with doorways walls and moved a Piano for us! We had two drop off locations because some of our stuff had to go to a storage place- again it was no problem. They were also quite reasonable. I got quotes from 5 movers before choosing "A Perfect Move" and even though the estimate was slightly higher than we originally planned (WE had more stuff than we thought), they were still less than half of the highest other quote and about $150 less than the next highest quote. I would HIGHLY recommend "A Perfect Move" because that's EXACTLY what we got! You guys are the best...Oh, and we even got a Thank You card from the moving guys, because we tipped them. They were awesome.

Who knew the stressful process of making a major move could result in your mover becoming a dear family friend? We found out recently, when a friend had recommended Robert to move our two family households 1,600 miles. My parents were unable to find a house at the time, so they stored their belongings in my new garage. Thanks to Robert, our initial move went so smoothly that when he offered to return to move them into their eventual home, we knew we'd call on him to do just that. Around the time they finally found a house, my sister passed away unexpectedly in the area we had left. Robert so very graciously helped us from afar by packing her belongings and bringing them to us (and moving a friend of my dad's on the way!). I'll always treasure his sensitivity and kindness in helping us unpack my sister's possessions, something we were not prepared to have to do. That's probably more moving than most individuals or families will ever have to do within a span of a few months, but Robert was there for us every step of the way. I cannot imagine how we would have coped without him. Robert's services are not only efficient and very reasonably-priced, he provides personal touches that are truly unique in the moving business. After our initial meeting with him, we were so impressed with the overall proposal, and did not look into any other moving companies. It was the best decision we could have made. On behalf of my parents, brother and two children, we are eternally grateful for his help and friendship! Robert is our mover for life.

We hired these guys last year to help us get all of our stuff out of a storage unit and unto a truck. They were fast, decently priced and nothing was damaged or broken. I would definitely recommend them. I did notice a review that complained about their appearances and us of foul language. They are movers, not choir boys. They definitely were NOT rude to me or anyone else.

I was worried with moving especially with a rigorous work schedule. Through word of mouth, i reached out to Dan and asked him if he could help. Not only did him and his employees meet my expectations, they far exceeded them. I was able to give Dan the keys to my old apartment and new, and he moved everything and set everything up within a short time frame. On top of this excellent service, the price was so low, that i had to give a tip because of how great my experience was with dan. If anyone ever even mentions moving to me, Dan will forever be the first person i recommend because of the extraordinary experience i had.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
