Hired A Star (Michael and his business partner Drew Cabana) to do a renovation job after my condo flooded out due to bad plumbing in the building.
Here's what my project with A Star entailed: Kitchen sink, counter tops and dishwasher had to be replaced, floors had to be redone (complete new floating laminate floor in living/dining area plus custom cutting and fitting several individual ceramic tiles), some custom shelves in the bathroom cabinets had to be refabricated, the covering for the AC exchanger had to be custom fabricated and the entire 950 sq ft. unit needed to be repainted.
Michael and Drew did an excellent job on this work on all counts -- both in their own work on floor installation, plumbing, painting carpentry and minor electrical items, and also as general contractors supervising other vendors
The folks from A Star were willing to come back again and again as we had to do things piecemeal -- first while I waited for the insurance situation to be decided, then wait for the condo management folks to replace virtually all the dry wall in every room before painting and other work by Michael and Drew could start, waiting for the carpet company I had hired separately to re-carpet the 2 bedrooms so that Michael and Drew could then install the T-molding end cap where the laminate floor meets the carpet, and finally we had to wait through delays caused by Lowe's in the delivery and installation of the sink and granite tops, which my guys supervised (they did the plumbing hookup for the sink and dishwasher themselves).
It took nearly three months -- through no fault of Michael or Drew. We all had to exert the right amounts of patience and pressure on the other parties. It was a good-sized job. Many other contractors probably would have bailed mid-way through and moved on to other jobs that were easier and more clear cut, but these guys hung in there.
I had to return from the Florida condo to return home to Massachusetts before the work was completed, and Michael and Drew continued to work hard to get the project done even though I wasn't around in person. Michael sent me photos of the completed work as it went along. My only criticism is that the photos were often fuzzy and therefore it was hard to see if the work had been done as expected. Michael needs to either get a better camera or have someone else take the photos of their excellent work!
All in all, these guys are great. Their price was fair, they did high quality work, are easy to work with and I'd hire them again.
