I booked the project with OSA just one week before I moved in my new condo. There are plenty of jobs needed to be done, like install all appliances, replace old vanity, replace all old valves, replace new toilet, install new lights, put floor tile and wall tile in my bathroom, and so on. Thankfully, OSA finished all projects before the day I moved in with high work quality, I really appreciate it. Also, they are very trustful, I gave my home key to them so they can come any time to do the work. I would definitely recommend OSA to all my friends who needs to do electricity, plumb job for their house or condo.

I hired Darcio of JMC Painting & Services to install new ceramic tile flooring in three bathrooms in my home. I hired Darcio because his price was reasonable and he was able to start the project within 2 weeks of my initial contact with him. Every other contractor I spoke with had a backlog of 8-10 weeks! The project took three days to complete. Some of the old tile had been installed with thick mortar and Darcio worked hard to prep the area for new installation. It did not look easy. Before the project started, Darcio asked that we supply our own tile, grout, and thin set mortar. At first I thought this was an inconvenience, but it actually turned out well because it allows you to pick out your own materials/shop around as well as learn a little bit about the tiling process along the way. Now that the work is finished, the floors look beautiful and are a dramatic improvement from what we had before. My only comment is that the baseboards were not removed in one of the bathrooms. I would have preferred to have all the baseboards in all the bathrooms removed so I could replace them later, and I did not communicate this clearly enough when the project started. Regadless, I would recommend Darcio for any tiling work you need around your home, he does a beautiful job and his prices are reasonable. Thanks Darcio!

Marble tile backsplash, cabinet hardware, trim for doors/windows: Mike is a talented and efficient all-around handyman. He was very patient and accommodating when shortage of tile created time lapse in project. Many return visits required, but stuck with his original estimate. His electrical expertise proved handy when a defective outlet was discovered and he was able to replace it in a snap. I won't hesitate to hire him again for any future projects.

It is an absolute pleasure to write about the experience i had with stella. I bought a home in lexington and i was not impressed with the colors used on the tile on the first floor bathroom. I called some local companies to get an estimate on re-tiling the entire bathroom and when i dealt with eric, it was a hands down decision. Dealing with this company was nothing short of a delight. They were professional, honest, fairly priced as well as knowledgeable on their product and installation. It was comfortable the tile installer David having them in my house, as he was extraordinarily quiet and respectful. Clean and neat, a mess was never left in my home. On top of it all, the work was impeccable, as he was very precise in his work. I have already recommended Stella to a few friends and would absolutely promote for anyone to use them!!!!

Carlos and his team removed about 2000 sq ft of carpet, glued down hard wood floor, and engineered flooring in one single morning. This included skimming the floor so it is completely prepped for new installation. Carlos was extremely professional and so were the rest of his team. I would hire Carlos again, also for other project work (he also does tiling, vinyl, etc.). Highly recommended! thank you Carlos.

My initial contact with Northeast Construction was great, they sent a very professional response and sent out some one (Ian?) the next day to make the repairs to walls and touch it up. Brandon also came out to check on the job and also provided a estimate on some bathroom work we would like to do. After speaking with him we could tell he has extensive experience and knows what he is talking about. We had no idea we couldn't install Sheetrock of any type in a shower behind tile, we had numerous contractors say that was perfectly fine and the norm, after researching its is not the norm. We look forward to working with them on our bathroom job and future projects.

Daniel did a large tile job in our basement. After a recent flood, we needed to replace our pergo flooring. Tile can be so expensive but Daniel worked with our budget and got the job done. We will definitely be recommending him to friends and family. I was very stressed to get the job done by Thanksgiving and Daniel promised me it would be done. It was indeed done and I couldn't be more grateful for his hard work! Thank you again!

Adam did a phenomenal job on my bathroom flooring. I had wood laminate from the previous owner (photo included as a before) and we installed a porcelain wood grain tile (photo included as an after). He worked with me graciously, as I wanted to purchase all of the material (had a gift card) and he wrote out exactly what I needed to get. The finished product is exactly what I wanted and the value of the work is superb. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for flooring jobs and if I have any more that come up in the future I will definitely be hiring him again.

Adonias was very easy to work with. He is friendly, creative, and flexible. He has a very busy company, so sometimes my projects took longer than expected, but he is good about communicating. Eagle7 remodeled two bathrooms for me (I will upload pictures after I finish cleaning and organizing them). They took out two fiberglass shower/tub units, built a new tub with tile surround and a tiled walk-in shower with glass door. They replaced sinks and countertops, replaced flooring (tile in one, vinyl plank in the other), repaired some plumbing, replaced fan/light combos, and built out walls where needed. In addition, Adonias and his crew helped with a few extra requests as they came up, without complaint. We were updating most of our house this month, so there were many contractors in and out, a dog, kids, and general chaos. The crew took it all in stride, they were patient and worked around our schedule. Prices were very reasonable, and they worked with me to think through what could be salvaged/reused to minimize costs. Adonias also sourced materials as needed, not overbuying or upcharging. Highly recommend Eagle7.

Ken did some tile work in my kitchen recently as well as some repairs to my doors and caulking our kitchen cabinets. From start to finish, Ken did a fantastic job! He communicated with me from the get-go, had a fair price, and was flexible with the times that he could come. He arrived on our agreed-upon time, performed the work as promised, and did a phenomenal job. He was done quickly and my wife and I were thrilled with his work. We will definitely be utilizing his services again in the future and I recommend him to anyone who needs any type of handyman work done.

I cannot say enough great things about Bill and his company. We were renovating our new home on a pretty tight timeline. When we first met with Bill we had several different flooring scenarios for each room in the house. He took the time to quote us on every possible option before we made our decision. We ended up having to add some additional work for Bill to complete and not only did we end up with beautiful floors but he also still got the job done in the amount of time we had hoped for. The vinyl plank and the carpets look even better than I had pictured. We will be recommending to everyone!

He was an absolute pleasure to work with and I look forward to working with him in the future.

XCC did a perfect job installing my hardwood floors in two large rooms. There were lots of complications with rooms being out of square, un-level surface around the fireplace due to mortar, and border patterns with different wood, and insets. All of it came out perfectly and with very little wood waste (way less than other contractors would have done). Xavier and his crew also did a great job replacing my damaged sub-floors throughout the entire house - a task that no other contractors were willing to take on. Xavier and his crew always worked hard and are very pleasant to be around. They have wide knowledge and skill sets and are willing and able to do anything you might need. No lazy-bones or burn-outs in this crew!

I have hired National Floors on many occasions in the past 10 years. They have performed various tasks ranging from hardwood floors and tile installations, wood floor refinishing, apartment painting and staircase building. Robert A LaPorte is an honest man and has been a reliable asset for me in my own home, as well as in my rental properties. His guys are respectful, clean and professional. I continue to hire him, and highly recommend him to others.

Rogerio was excellent to work with...extremely reasonable, patient, and responsive. I used him to install about 1200 sq ft of vinyl plank tiling throughout a rental property. They were able to install all of the flooring in just one day and also included trim for a low cost. I was being particular about a couple of scratches I was concerned about and he fixed them at no charge. We were so pleased with his work that we gave him a little extra for a job well done. Would highly recommend his services.

Andrea is an artist with tile. She knows tile like no other installer I've seen. Her evaluation of a problem is thoughtful, well considered, takes into account the risks of what complications may lie under the tile, as well as how to address them. In short, she's an expert. I've used Andrea's skills twice, and with excellent results. In my prior house, shower walls had been sloppily tiled during the initial installation, and I called Andrea to fix the problem. She did a fantastic job; so recently in my 2nd home, I called her again to help with a shower floor. The new home had a standing shower that had not been graded to drain water, and quotes from other tile companies had wanted to replace the *entire* shower (suuure, even though it was only the floor that needed work). Andrea's skills were instrumental in helping retain the walls and only address the actual problem. She and her team carefully removed the old tile floor, regraded the cement, and retiled to beautifully match the coloring in the wall tile. I no longer need a push broom to drain my shower, and it looks and feels great to stand on. Not slippery, well drained, and everything I could have asked for. Definitely will call Andrea again for all my tiling needs.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install tile?

Tile installation costs vary widely depending on the tiles you choose, where you want them installed, and what kind of demolition and surface preparation you need to have done. The national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The more tiles that need to be cut by hand and laid on the surface, the higher the total cost. Tile installation professionals can handle many different types of stone, ceramic and porcelain tiles, applying them in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and entranceways. They can create anything from artistic mosaic backsplashes in your kitchen to modern shower enclosures to rustic patios in your backyard. Tile installation professions often can remove existing flooring or old tiles and replace drywall. Tile prices range from $1 to more than $50 per square foot — handmade ones are even priced individually — depending on the material. Rustic, handmade or special-use tiles cost more to install because they must be applied to the surface one by one, rather than in a sheet. For most jobs, tile installation costs are based on the square footage of the project. For example, a standard 6-foot by 8-foot shower tile installation can average $1,200-$1,600, depending on whether the tiles go to the top of the shower or to the ceiling. The total cost of a tiling project also includes the grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps, and tile mounting materials like backer board.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
