Just image that someone convinces you to go for a hike by yourself on a mountain and the weather changes and you don’t have the right clothing, shoes, food or shelter. That is the problem that I found myself in emotionally when I lost many years of photos and videos when I tried to eliminate a tremendous number of duplicates that were produced by the update of iPhoto to Photo which created many unnecessary duplicates. A well-meaning friend suggested that I use an app that removes duplicate files i.e. photos etc. So for $.99 let’s give it a try, mistake #1. The instructions were very unclear so I tried to experiment with its procedures, mistake #2. I included every file that had anything to do with photos and movies moving them into the trash can, mistake #3. I then tried to view my photos to see if my duplicates were removed and just my initial photos remained. A message stopped me saying “an error occurred while repairing permissions” So I started investigating how to repair permissions and nothing I tried worked. So I updated to Apple’s latest operating system, then tried to reboot the system. When I turned on the computer and activated the Photo App there were no photos or videos. Since my 1TB hard drive was 90% full I thought the thing to do would be to empty the trash to make room for my Time Machine to reload photos, Mistake #4. When I reloaded photos from the Time Machine I found that only 534 photos out of 34000+ photos and videos were available. I concluded that I had a failed backup system, Mistake #5. I called Apple and asked them to recover deleted photos since the tag was removed but the file still existed. They referred me to Thumbtack and I found 3 service companies one of which was Precision Tech Services and best of all Rob the owner was local and willing to come to my home as opposed to me carrying my 27” IMac into the mall to the Apple store to have them remove the C drive and then to drive the C drive to the recovery company. The helicopter was coming and I was about to be airlifted off the mountain. Everything said in the prior reviews about Rob proved true. He is a hard working, polite, knowledgeable, logical and most of all patient man. He went out of his way to buy a special firewire cable to fit my 2010 iMac unfortunately the port was not responsive so the program he used had to be downloaded to my computer. The recovery process proved to have many corrupted files. Rather than leaving me with only some of my photos he investigated my backup and found that there was a file labeled “Photos Library 2” which didn’t show any volume and when highlighted did nothing. But Rob realized that it contained a massive file and when left to run overnight revealed 564 GB. Today all my photos and videos have been restored. I should also mention that Rob worked remotely from his home as the process took 3 days to complete. Obviously, I highly recommend him.
I had an external drive fail, full of precious, but not urgent content. In this situation, I'd never care to spend near-thousands for catastrophic/heroic data recovery. I only wanted to spend up to a very finite dollar amount to take modest steps. Only a small part of what was on that drive was precious, hence the margins of interest/expense. I put a work-request up through ThumbTack, and SPpcR / Matt was the only person that fit my particular needs. Matt was very clear and communicative about the options, odds, and prices of the work they could provide for me. Matt made a house call, was a pleasure to help. In the middle of the "free-evaluation", we actually figured out a better way to get the "precious" stuff of of another drive (from a previous machine), that would be easier to recover than the one I called SPpcR for. Matt is incredibly patient, flexible, and helpful during the free evaluation. I have never known another computer business to take such a personal, open-ended approach without charging huge fees up front. S.P.pc.R. is a very talented, generous and attentive business to work with. It's a shame to think people would not play fair and satisfactory with such a professional. I highly recommend these services, and they'll be my first to call in the (unfortunate) case they're needed again.
They retrieved ALL of my data within the time frame promised. My IT department nor Geed Squad could help me because they could not see anything on the drive but Secure Data Recovery was able to assist. I didn't expect to pay $1400 but I did get my data back!
Extremely reactive, professional, Mario has helped me figure out if we could recover the data The recovery of the data was not feasible due to important physical damages on the HDD. As no data was recovered, I did not have to pay any fee
I needed data recovery from a damaged hard drive on a home computer. Even though they were not able to recover any data due to the damage, their service was prompt, professional and fairly priced. I would use them again if needed. Willis Kanaley
Within less than 10 hours I went from a state of total panic, and unable to work, to back up and running! Local (MD) companies I spoke with in the MD/DC area were quoting me a week (and more money) to complete the same data recovery -- Jerry and his team drove from Delaware to Annapolis, MD to help me and arrived just a couple hours after we spoke. Job done to perfection. Sincere gratitude is an understatement!
Mike and his company were very professional. My case was not a severe problem but they took a look at my drive to see if it was recoverable. They felt they could retrieve data but for me the cost of the process to recover was not in my budget. They went above and beyond to see what could be done. When said and done I decided to stop process. But in the future, would call them again if I have a case that is needed I would use them. Thanks for your efforts.
Fast and easy. Don was very knowledgeable and made several recommendations to help preserve the integrity of my data. I could not have been more pleased. Frank Schimpf EnergyC2, LLC.
I am a break/fix guy. My company, FindANerd.com, has been in business since 2000. I get calls and take jobs where Data Recovery may be involved. I handle a lot of different types of calls, but sometimes more profound problems need a 'Clean-Room' service. A Clean-Room service actually takes the drives apart and gets data from the platters directly. I have been using CompRecovery for the last few years, and knowing that I have a back-up like this makes my life a lot easier. This is a nerd that nerds go to...
After my hard drive started giving me big problems, I turned to Data Analyzers Data Recovery Philadelphia for help. They got it spinning properly again so they could get the files out for me. Fantastic job on their part!
My computer crashed and did not restart. I thought I lost everything, not only photos, but my poems and short stories too. I was wrong! Guys from ACE Data Recovery retrieved 100% of my data! It's simply unbelievable!
