I am a trained professional opera singer and voice teacher based in Midtown West of Manhattan. I am a former New York City Opera performer who holds bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in music and voice pedagogy and performance. I have taught voice, violin and piano at the grade school and collegiate level. Whether you are on the outset of a professional career wanting to hone your skills or an ambitious beginner, I can help you realize your musical goals. My first consultation is always free.
Michelle is great with kids. Our 7-year old daughter loves her piano lessons and always looks forward to them. More important, we can hear that she is really learning and making great progress. Two of her school friends have started lessons with Michelle after we recommended her.
I have been taking piano lessons from Myla for about a year. She is incredibly patient, kind, and attentive. She's also really funny! I think what makes her such a great teacher is her flexibility and adaptability. She's been expert in every area I've shown interest in, but still lets me guide my music education. (More details on that below.) Scheduling lessons has also been an ease with her. I tend to be a perfectionist, and she's been superb in helping me iron out details of the pieces I'm working on. She also knows a lot of music history, which I ask her about as I find it enriches the pieces, and is great at teaching music theory (and making it fun!). As soon as I get interested in a new area of music (theory and sort-of improv-playing/pseudo-composing being most recent), she's on-board, encouraging, and so helpful! I always have a blast at lessons and come away having learned so much, and excited to practice some more. In my 25 years of playing instruments, I've probably had at least 10 different teachers for various instruments, and Myla is by far my favorite! Her encouragement and contagious love of music makes her stand out from even my great teachers in the past.
I am a musician and composer living in Brooklyn and teaching private piano lessons in New York City. I bring to lessons a solid and expansive education in music performance, theory, and composition in different styles, as well as the ability to explain and display the necessary skills in a variety of ways for a diversity of learning styles. I teach an aggressive curriculum, but one that is tailored to the student's personal strengths and weaknesses, and I always remain gentle and patient while guiding my students through the rewarding process of learning to create music. I have been playing the piano for 20 years, studying music performance, theory, and history at Concord Academy, The Wells College Program for the Arts in Paris, and Sarah Lawrence College, where I also studied electronic music, ethnomusicology, composition, and conducting. I am currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in composition at Brooklyn College Conservatory. Please feel free to contact me at any time either via email or phone with any questions.
I have trained through Trinity College, London, and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, as well as now getting my Master's degree in Music at Hunter College, New York. I'm flexible with lesson times: 30-, 45-, or 60-minute lessons. In my lessons you will work on fun stuff (the pieces you like and want to play) and also the exercises that will improve your technique and help you play better (kind of a "workout"). It really helps your playing overall to work on technique but I promise to not make it too boring! Many clients also ask if I can help them to rent or buy a violin or keyboard. I can definitely help with that and have done so for many clients already.
I offer classical piano lessons in Queens, for all levels and ages. I am a French piano teacher with more than 30 years of experience. I have been a concert pianist and teacher for 30 years in conservatory in France. I am also a former Music Chamber teacher in "Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris/Alfred Cortot" (that is the equivalent of Julliard School of Arts in NY for Paris). I am available too as an accompanist for singers and choirs (Chef de Chant) and for concerts as a soloist or in chamber music.
My kids always enjoyed their piano lessons with you and actually practiced without me having to threaten them! Thanks to you, they both still play. Adam plays for the sheer enjoyment of it. He has a keyboard in his room in Virginia (he's still in the Navy) and puts on his headphones and plays! Thanks, Jonathan! Besides being a fantastic musician, you know how to inspire and teach. We are a duo who teaches music for instruments from piano, voice, guitar, and oboe and composition lessons. The duo consist of Crystal, who teaches both piano and voice, and Seann, who teaches piano, guitar, oboe, and composition. While we have our own curriculum of teaching, we also work with your own musical goals and needs. We come from very well studied performance backgrounds as we each have a Master's degrees from New York University. Our foundation is classical, but we are very well versed in other genres of music from jazz, world, rock, and/or pop styles as well. We strive to make the personal connection and needs for each of our students.
I am an adult student and have been taking piano lessons from Rubi for many years. I find my lessons enjoyable and Rubi is very thorough in both interpretation and technique. She also continues to challenge me in the repertoire she chooses; she is very knowledgable, caring and experienced. I highly recommend her as a teacher.
