Teaching methodology
I am very friendly and patient, and I want you to be as comfortable as possible during our lessons. I will make your lessons fun, enjoyable, and effective. Learning Chinese with me is fun. But at the same time, I take it serious. I will help you to learn as much as you can with me. You can expect to learn all the conversational communications, all the basics of Chinese Pinyin, Chinese Hanzi and Chinese grammar from my lessons. Most important I am very good at helping students memorizing the Chinese vocabulary.
The teaching methods I use will be custom-tailored to your individual needs, levels and specific goals.
Although based on a core curriculum designed to allow students to reach their goals, my teaching style is also spontaneous and innovative. If it's conversational Chinese you want to learn, I want to get you talking exactly the level you want to communicate as soon as possible. If it's Hanzi or Pinyin that you want to learn, I will teach you complete Chinese phonetics and the most used simplified Chinese characters to help you communicating in both oral and written Chinese.
Due to my professional experience, I would be happy to help with learning business Chinese. I am also excited to advise students on Chinese cultural, and give advice about living, studying, working, or traveling in China. I have visited more than 30 cities in China, from east Jiangsu to west Tibet.
I have been studying and practicing Chinese calligraphy since I was a child. I believe that I have reached higher level of this fantastic art. If a student knows more than 200 Hanzi, it is possible to learn Chinese calligraphy from me.
I also love to spend time with little kids. For the kids at the different stage, I use different methods to teach them the second language. For the infants and toddlers, I encourage them to manipulate physical props while listening and absorbing new vocabulary. My class components include traditional Chinese songs with customized visual aids and props, movements & finger plays. Children are actively engaged in a nice environment. Pre-school age children develop memory and use symbols while learning. At this stage I will teach them basic conversations, movement and games to retain new vocabularies. Elementary school age and 12+age kids have also different needs and they can organize information in more logical and systematical ways. I would provide them my lesson with theme based learning methods including conversations, grammar and basic reading and writing.
I am very passionate about food and very good at cooking Chinese home dishes and regional specialties. This is a talent inherited from my mom who used to cook delicious food for me at least twice a day until I went to university. Now I like inviting friends at home and prepare them Chinese food which may not be found in the restaurants in NYC.
About Travel
I live just outside of Manhattan, and therefore have reliable transportation methods to travel to students who are in Manhattan.
