Krystie took great care of my 2 cats and always made sure to send me updates with photos which I appreciate. She was very accommodating and willing to stop by even on short notice. I definitely recommend her if you are looking for a reliable pet sitter.

Michael is nothing short of perfect! I contacted Michael just a day before leaving and he was very willing to take on the job. I was slow to responding, but he was very flexible and understanding. I woke up every morning with daily updates sent by Michael. He sent videos and photos each time. He gave a summary of what happened each visit, which I appreciated so much. I was in a different time zone, but Michael was always prompt in responding to my texts and we were in contact the entire time. My cat is very very shy so he hid under the bed whenever Michael visited. Michael tried various methods to make my cat feel more comfortable so that he can eventually warm up to Michael. With my previous cat sitters, I was constantly worried because they would only send blurry photos of my cat without giving proper updates. With Michael, I was able to enjoy my vacation because I knew my cat was in good hands. I was immediately able to tell that he is very dedicated trustworthy. He even managed to show up on the day of the snow storm, even when I told him that it was not necessary. After my trip, I returned to a clean apartment and a happy cat. Michael is by far the best cat sitter I’ve had, and I’ve had many! I will definitely hire him again!

(+) Suki fulfilled the expected tasks of a cat sitter -- providing food, filling the water bowl, and scooping the litter box. She sent daily photos. She was pretty quick to responding to my texts. Suki's rate/cost is affordable compared to other cat sitters, especially professionals (-) Although she sent daily photos, they were sometimes just blurry snaps of my cat's back. From the photos alone, it did not seem that Suki spent much time with him. Rather felt like she was merely showing me that she "checked in" to see my cat. I was disappointed to return home and see that the curtains were down when she said that she will make sure they are up.

Jen and her associates truly love pets. So many of the pet-sitters are solely focused on dogs. These guys really know and like cats, too. And my cats like them back.

Karen is amazing! I never ever worry about my dogs when she is here. (And i have rescue dogs one of which has issues.) I can travel and work with peace of mind. She is gentle; Dependable; Trustworthy. My dogs love her. She goes above and beyond all the time. I have had numerous dog sitters in the past. No more. This woman will always be the one i call for dog sitting. Do yourself a favor. Ditch the others and go with Karen. She’s fabulous!

Roe is awesome! The best cat sitter I have ever had!!! My babies love her! She is affordable and flexible. She cared for my diabetic cat and we were able to work out a deal where she came and gave him his shots twice a day AND spent the night with them. They weren't even a bit traumatized by my absence this time! Roe genuinely loves animals and even helped me solve a litter box issue. I have used cat sitters for over 20 years and Roe is, hands down, the absolute best!

Katy babysat my cat last year when I was in Italy and I will definitely be contacting her again for my next trip. I have a special needs cat who needs insulin shots every day and Katy attended to all of his needs in a very loving manner. She knows cats well and most importantly she is a cat lover which is why I chose her. She was very reliable, clean and professional as well. Best cat sitter around if you ask me. I highly recommend her!!

We had a great time at Seaton Hackney Stables! At first, we were hesitant to go there because of the one star, totally unfair review posted here, but we were glad that we still decided to go because everyone we met was super friendly and very approachable. I haven't seen any overworked horses and the horses were very energetic, very happy and well cared for at Seaton Hackney Stables. The management made us feel very welcomed and the current team of instructors and volunteers did a fantastic job!

We became first time pet owners when we rescued two kittens a year ago. We didn't know what to do when we planned to go on vacation without them. Keeping them at the veterinarian's office in a cage was out of the question to us. Luckily, Pet Sitters Club could come over and take care of them. You guys are so professional yet gave Matisse and Brownie such personal care. You e-mailed us, sent pictures and let us know how they were doing. You not only took care of our cats but you took care of our house too (checking the mail, watering the plants and picking up circulars). It was such a tremendous relief to have you guys watch over our cats and house while we were away. Thank you so much for everything you did

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
