I had a leakage issue which was coming from the 3rd floor bathroom through my kitchen ceiling. Jason quickly found the location and issue. The price he quoted to fix the two leaks was very affordable. He was kind enough to quickly drive to buy the parts needed and get right to work. Not only did he fix that, he also figured out our refrigerator issue which was shut off due to a breaker switch being off. Jason is very respectful, professional, honest, knowledgeable, and AFFORDABLE. You can't beat that. I would hire Jason again for any other issues!

Would definitely recommend Mike. He was quick to respond and did the job on short notice. He was very flexible in meeting our specific demands. We had two mattresses cleaned / sofa, carpet cleaned. Walls and ceiling including all floor surfaces were steam cleaned after a renovation. Mike did an awesome job - would definitely recommend.

Ackthba did a great job, taking care of a number of jobs in my house - recaulking our bathtub, repairing and varnishing a part of the floor, installing a bathroom light fixture and air conditioners, and a few other small miscellaneous things. He and his team are very detail oriented and did a great job, highly recommended!

Very positive experience. Beverly, who is the owner, was detailed and patient with all my questions (first time customer). I had a detailed hardwood floor cleaning as well as a bathroom deep clean. Ami, who provided the service, came in for a brief consultation to provide a quote since my request was specific. I quickly booked the job for the following week. The floors look brand new and the bathroom spotless. You can tell there was a lot of thoughtful work put into the job. We were very impressed. Note that you will need to provide mops/vacuum/swiffer etc.. but they provide the cleaning products. Thank you Ami and Beverly!! Will definitely book again!

We needed a plumbing repair late Sunday afternoon at my parents home (60 year old house with original copper plumbing). They had found water on the floor of their finished basement. It was not gushing, but a steady drip. We shut off the water to the house. Matt responded quickly through Thumbtack, and was at the house within a couple hours. It was a cracked fitting, which he repaired. Price was reasonable, he was professional and we will use him again. He also called the next day for follow-up.

Pretty straight forward, I guess. Standard machine and steam process. Wood floor under the pieces got quite wet/messy but suppose normal. Overall, I was thinking that more of our spots would come out but that could be nature of what the spot was made from. The tech was articulate and friendly.

I hired C&A to refinish and repair my wood floor in my living room and dining room. Carlos gave me a very fair price. He even showed me pictures of floors he repaired. He also made suggestions to install molding around the floor. Great communication. His workmen were very nice and did a great job. I would definitely use them again.

I am sooooo lucky I found this company!!! Sam and his colleagues are very skilled and knowledgeable professionals. They were on time to do the work and completed the job as promised. I could not ask for more. My hardwood floor is better than the original wood floor. I have very high expectations and S&K exceeded them. I am very fortunate I chose them over the rest of the competition. I consider myself a winner! Thanks Sam, Mario and Josue!!!!

Rosita’s House Cleaning sent 2 women to clean the living room and bathroom after extensive renovation work. For some reason the contractors didn’t use drop cloths and the furniture and floors were covered with plaster dust and paint specks. The contractors eventually swept but the dust was already ground into the wood floors. Rosita’s crew swept, vacuumed and mopped but there was still a trace of plaster that now looks like a white filmy coating making the living room floor look dull. I’ll be talking to the building manager about professional floor cleaners to repair the damage done by the contractors. But as far as the cleaners go, they did a great job.

We had a pleasant experience and was happy engaging OxyClean to get this job done. This is the first time we are having the carpet cleaned in a newly purchased house and the best part is the carpets are clean and dry within hours for us to move in time. I will certainly engage them again as the incentive of not walking on wet floors is pretty compelling to have carpets cleaned every 6 months once.

Phil was a pleasure to work with. He was very professional, his fee was reasonable, he was responsive and prompt. Our floors came out amazing and I would recommend him to anyone seeking someone to clean their tile floors. We had years of wear and tear, kids, pets, food, drink, and much foot traffic. Our floor looks practically new. Thanks Phil! We are extremely happy.

I've been using the internet since it was a black screen with green text lines. I can build computers from scratch, but I don't much go for social media-- in fact, I've never reviewed anything on amazon, or home depot, or yelp, or anything else. That's a long way to say that this is my actual, first, and only review, and I'm doing this because Felipe did a great job, and he deserves the recognition. I found him to be intelligent, thoughtful, hard-working, and careful with his craft. He charges a fair and competitive price, works fast, but works in a way where it seems that he's working on his own house when he does yours. Although he did some drywall work and floor trim which looks great, his tile work is the best. And since life is not perfect-- walls are crooked, floors are not perfectly flat, buildings and structures can shift and move-- if something doesn't come out right, he takes the time to make it right. For those of you who are tired of talking to contractors and would rather get started, I think Felipe is going to be a breath of fresh air. Thanks, Felipe, and let me know when you're in the area so I can show you the next project.

Klarens was responsive and pleasant when booking the job. But his partner arrived instead of him to caulk the bathtub and kitchen. He did a sloppy job on the bathtub, leaving cracks and getting caulk on the tile (see photo). He put a huge amount of caulk around the counter in the kitchen. It looked so bad I asked him to remove it. I then exchanged messages with Klarens to have him come fix it, after I’d already paid. He scheduled a time, texted he was late, asked for alternate days, both of which I was available for, and then never followed thru to finish the job. So I am out the cost of the job and have crap around the bathtub and nothing in the kitchen. Disappointed does not express how let down I feel by KI Renovations. Other reviews were good but I recommend you Avoid.

M&M did a great job on 2 of my projects. Max was very professional and cared about the quality of his work. My customers continuously rave about their new floors that max sanded and stained to match an existing wood floor. I will be using him for all of my future flooring projects.

Our house was built in the 1990s and had existing maple flooring. As part of our home remodel, we wanted to match the existing flooring and have certain areas refinished. We were concerned about a seamless transition as the existing oak was over 40 years old. After an extensive search, we found Toscano Floor Designs LLC. to be the best priced with great references. Martin and his team were professional, punctual and provided a great final result. Given the headache of dealing with contractors and subcontractors during a remodel, it was refreshing to have someone provide the service promised, on budget and within the timeline provided. We will definitely recommend to all our friends and family.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.
