Abott construction was hired to do 2 projects: 1) repointing of chimney w/ chimney cap installation and 2) roof leak repair Mark of Abott Construction was very quick with his corresondence. He is there when he says he will be there, even if it was freezing cold he was working up on the roof! He was the only roofer/contractor who suggested trying to repair the leak or save the roof first before replacing. He is trying his best to buy us a couple of years before spending the big money that a whole roof replacement will cost. Mark asked me to go on the roof with him so he can show me what he had done to the chimney and roof and we did a water test to check for garage roof leak. We ran the water from the hose for a good 15mins and it passed the leak test! No water leaking in the garage! The following day we got a verybad rain, it was raining non stop for 24hrs. Unfortunately after a good 3hours of heavy rain the garage started leaking again, Mark is trying his best to save the roof, he said he will try 1 more time to seal more of the shingles and see what that does,we are still awaiting a decent non snowy/rain/freezing weather conditions for him to try 1 last time. Fair pricing, fast correspondence, easy to talk to and dependable( will be there at your house if he says he will be there) job is finished on the amount of days he said it will take the job to be finished.

Will's Home Remodeling was the general contractor for my major residential renovation at 183Jordan Road in Somers Point NJ. The project took about 4 months to complete where we completely gutted and renovated this badly damaged home that sat vacant for over 5 years. This was a $100k+ renovation for total labor and materials and Will and his team were the glue that kept the project on track and within budget. Will and his team personally completed all new vinyl siding, all new windows, new roofing, new gutters, new insulation, several new walls, stucco and cement repair, new stair steps, bathroom and shower and back splash and accent tile work, kitchen cabinet installation, wall board, spackling, caulking, trim work, door frames, shower doors and many miscellaneous requests. Will partnered well with some challenging subcontractors in the areas of plumbing, electrical, outside concrete, flooring and granite counter top installation. When the other subcontractors dropped the ball, Will was always there with a creative solution and to help get them back on task. I would definitely hire Wills Home Remodeling for my next project.

Michal replaced the door from my garage to the inside of our kitchen due to the old door warping and sagging. He was extremely accommodating offering to start early in the morning and provide the new door (purchased ahead of time requiring no deposit). He went above and beyond during his installation, including trim, shims, a new door knob (which he had to come back to do the next day) spray foam and about 6 hours of labor. My new door is level, does not let in any heat from my garage (not ventilated) and opens and closes with ease! I am 100 percent satisfied and he is worth every dollar... you will not be disappointed by his craftsmanship.

Lots of positive feedback from the neighbors who all stopped to comment on a job well done. Would definitely recommend and will be calling New Vision for more home repairs.

Dan’s estimate was concise and informative. Dan informed me at each step of the roofing project ie: condition of the roof after tear-off of existing roof. Installed Ice & Water Shield on the entire roof. Cleaned out the gutters; removed all trash including nails on the grounds. Completed all work in 1 day! Love the look.

Honestly can not say enough glowing things about House And Home Exterior Remodeling - Don't even bother with anyone else or you'll be sorry!!! I spent HOURS...DAYS...researching roofing companies when we moved into our home and the first rainstorm brought leaks & drips in various places...only to find out that we needed to have the WHOLE roof redone (we had Cal-Shake, which is horrible old material). I remembered that my old friend Max had started a roofing company some years back and tracked him down for a quote. His price was very reasonable in comparison to all the others and his Yelp reviews showed promise, plus I know he's a good soul, so my husband and I decided to have him do our roof. WE ARE SOOOOO HAPPY with EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of the job that was done!!! Not only is Max the most honest, wonderful human being, but his crew was amazing! Normally construction crews are loud, messy, and pretty annoying to have around...Not these guys!!! Every worker that was at our house was nice, respectful, clean - besides the obvious banging, we would have never known they were here! They worked crazy fast, and left the property so clean every day that I was blown away and all my previous anxieties about having our roof done were squashed. Not that I expect to have to call on them any time soon, but I'll never again even think of calling any other roofing companies, and will undoubtedly send everyone I know to House And Home Best Roofing Company. Call them. You WILL be happy! Yet another well deserved 5 star review!! :)

Cherry Valley Tractor has been in business since 1961 and have used many roofing companies in the past. Since Wm. Brooks III LLC completed our first roof section, I knew we didn't have to look any further. Bill gives us an honest price up front and does an outstanding job. Him and his guys come to work and get the job done right the first time and make sure all trash and debris is cleaned up after each work day. We have started to use him for other odd jobs other than roofing. I would recommend his services to anyone looking for commercial or residential work. Brian C. HGR completed a variety of construction jobs for us thus far at our Ocean City N.J. shore home. They consisted of the removal of walls including a bearing wall, installation of a support beam, wall installation in a different location and the raising of a lower level floor, all relating to the expansion of our kitchen. They also removed, modified and rebuilt a second story flat roof, bringing it up to code by adding the frame work necessary to provide strength, proper pitch for water run off and an excellent base for fiberglass decking to be installed. The project also included structurally 'tied in" 4x4's in designated areas for vinyl railings to be installed along with siding, shingle and sheet metal work. Once the fiberglass decking was laid, they installed high strength vinyl/aluminum railings. Their jobs all came out remarkable. The craftsmanship was excellent throughout. They kept to their word with their great pricing, punctuality and were all around good, honest, dependable people to work with. They were always courteous, friendly and aiming to please. We are already planning future jobs for them at our other home and business. I would definitely recommend them for anyone wanting a high quality construction job, along with a great experience. Mr.Mechanical has performed many jobs for me at my commercial building and my home. He has installed new AC equipment and relocated it to a better location. His work is outstanding, reasonable and he performs in a timely manner. He has also performed precision work in my building: Jacked up a ceiling, repaired a roof leak that I had for over 4 years (which no other roofer could fix), sheet rocked, spackled and encased the steel beams with wood facing. At my personal residence he has fixed a well pump, did a tile backsplash in my kitchen and tiled one of my bathrooms. He has installed laminate flooring, installed a wall and door, spackled, painted and added finished molding where needed to perfection. And I am a perfectionist. This contractor goes beyond just HVAC systems. He really knows his stuff! And will never over charge. I will recommend and use Mr. Mechanical from now on for any and all of my contractor needs. After being ripped off by other contractors I don't trust anyone but him to get the job done and get it done correctly at a great price!

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

        • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

        • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
          • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
        • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
        • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
        • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
        • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
        • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
