It was a great pleasure working with chef Myra. She is an awesome teacher but an even better friend. She makes the best fried chicken I've ever had. Her passion for cooking shows in her delicious and beautiful dishes that she creates.

Liz was truly an inspiration for me. She gave me the knowledge I needed to lead a healthy lifestyle. The knowledge I gained from her physical fitness, nutritional classes, and cooking demonstrations, gave me the tools necessary to drop 48 pounds within 5 months from weigh-in. My physical fitness success didn’t fully sink in until a friend told me I lost the equivalent weight of a 45 pound barbell plate. I’ve since succeeded in pursuing a life long goal of summiting on foot to the top of my favorite mountain in New Mexico.

In February of this year, I took an excellent three-day cooking class from Jane Butel, with about four other people. We learned how to make a substantial number of traditional New Mexican dishes, and she accompanied the learning with interesting and helpful historical information that gave us valuable insight into why many things were done in a certain way. We all enjoyed her class, and I'm sure everyone of us has recommended her classes to others. It has given me the courage to confidently do some of the cooking and amaze my wife. It would require a dedicated lifetime to acquire the knowledge that she shared with us. Gratefully, Doug Edgar

I so loved it when Jackie cooked for my family for a myriad of reasons from the time element, to healthy dinners, to ease of having a home-cooked meal. The kids would give Jacki a request of their favorites items they had come to love from her cooking. It was wonderful. Can you imagine your child requesting to have mashed cauliflower, or a baked fish dish, or how about asparagus? Well, my kids did. They are so willing to try new foods, and the repertoire of choices now has grown exponentially. I wish I could say it was because of me, but I know Jacki was instrumental with it. Thanks, Jacki!!

Emily taught me how to make many delicious vegetarian dishes and juices. It was such a fun and valuable experience because Emily is both experienced and easy to work with. I told her I like knowing about the foods we’re cooking with and she integrated a lot of learning into the experience. We cooked together via online video and it was so real, I accidentally offered her coffee at one point. Emily is awesome and I highly recommend her!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.
