Whatever needs to be done for a pet, Elizabeth is willing and eager. She has cared for my pets, both dogs and cats for several years. She follows instructions, including special needs of an elderly dog and develops a loving relationship with each pet. She is also willing to spend time playing with and petting furry babies as requested. I would highly recommend Elizabeth as a reliable and dependable choice for the in home care of your beloved pets.

I was born and raised on a working farm in the south. I have lived with animals of all kinds my entire life. I study canine behaviors. We care how each and every pet that is in our care feels. We see to it that each one feels happy and loved while they are staying with us. They have such fun and love to come back over an over again. They get so happy they just barrel in the door. I can not imagine my life without k9 kids in it. We offer a playground area with kiddie pools for water play. Oh my how they love that. I also make very healthy homemade treats. I take into consideration allergies and special diets of all of our guest. I also study canine nutrition. I think we can do a great deal of good by going the extra mile for our beloved pets(kids) diets. Possibly extending the lives of our beloved companions. Ensuring the quality of life they have with us is the best possible. That is what we are all about. We live and breath it.

I just walk the dogs and make sure they have water upon return, and feed them if you wish. I can also drive them to the vet if you need.

If needed, I will travel for your dog. I am also available 24/7 (on call), and there will be no time limit. I will attend to your pet as long as needed. I love dogs very much. I own a loving, very friendly and smart husky.

I specialize in day training. This means that I come to your home and train your dog for an agreed-upon number of sessions over a period of several weeks, so while you go about your own day, I work with the dog to train new behaviors and mentally stimulate him. About once a week, we will meet, so that I can show you the progress your dog has made and teach you how to maintain his new behavior(s). This approach is very efficient and effective, since most people have neither the time nor the inclination to train their own dogs (if you did, you would become a dog trainer). The beauty of day training is that I work with your dog individually, taking on all the repetitive and technical work involved in dog training. As part of the training session package, I will teach you (and your family, if applicable) how to elicit and maintain your dog’s new behavior. Coaching is ideal for some behaviors. If we agree on this approach, I will work with you for one or more sessions. I might teach you how to manage a given situation with your dog or show you some new techniques. Between our coaching sessions, you will be required to do some homework and to monitor the progress made with your dog. Some behaviors are too complicated to resolve effectively with day training or too taxing for clients to live with. In these situations, the best solution may be for your dog to live with me and my family for a couple of weeks (on average). During this time, I will exercise and train the dog everyday. After the agreed-upon number of board and train days, we will meet together so you can see the progress made and learn how to work with your “new” dog. Please note: This option requires pre-screening. Tellington TTouch® is a method of working with animals that has proven effective in reducing stress, fear, aggression and anxiety; as well as modifying behavior; increasing flexibility; and, when combined with veterinarian care, aiding in recovery. The approach is gentle yet systematic, and helps animals to better cope with different and novel situations. It improves confidence, focus and learning. With the use of gentle touches, body wraps, and groundwork (a variety of exercises with equipment), we engage and calm the animal's nervous system, as well as teach the animal to move in non-habitual ways. Since an animal that is stressed or anxious cannot learn, the incorporation of TTouch® allows me to aid an animal (in my case, dogs, cats, birds and rabbits) by teaching them how to relax. The animal can then focus on learning new ways of coping with situations in which he previously reacted with fear, concern or anxiety. Another terrific benefit of TTouch® is that it provides the guardian with the tools to engage with their animal in ways that are nonthreatening, establishing or deepening the trust between them. As part of a TTouch® session, you will learn how to use wraps and perform bodywork. This service could be incorporated into a training session with your dog or as a TTouch® only session. For a current schedule of TTouch® group classes, please link to C.H.A.C.O.'s news blog. I have customized programs for veterinarians, dog walkers, and groomers. I also offer free educational programs tailored to the needs of your business. I am available to consult with you and your staff to resolve dog behavior-related issues at your place of business, such as how to deal with a dog that does not like to be handled and needs to be groomed, or a dog that might lunge and bark at other dogs while in the waiting room. For dog walkers, there are a myriad of techniques that I can teach you that will make your walks safer and more enjoyable for everyone involved.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

  • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
  • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
  • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
  • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
  • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
  • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

  • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
  • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
  • Wash and dry: $60
  • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
