- How did you get started doing this type of work?
At an early age, my parents shared their love of many styles of music, with my brothers and myself, including "Big Band" - Jazz!!! That "driving beat", had a lasting effect on me, that continues to this day!!! After hearing "Many", of the great early drummers, like Lionel Hampton, Max Roach, Gene Krupa, "Buddy" Rich, plus so many more ...I was "hooked" on the unbelievable dynamics of the music & rhythms, that filled the mind, body, soul & spirit!!! Seeing this positive effect that music had on me, my parents later provided me, with the wonderful - "rare" opportunity and experience, of being trained by the head of percussion, at Michigan State University, in East Lansing Michigan. This wonderful in-depth instruction, later enabled me to become the head drum instructor, at Marshall Music Co. in East Lansing, across from M.S.U. During this time, I also played in bands, recorded two records with "The Chancellors", and performed on many stages and events! One time, we even had the wonderful experience, of meeting "Stevie" Wonder, during a band break, who was playing in the adjacent ballroom, in Lansing, Michigan - as a "special guest"!!! Years later, I am continuing to teach the art of drumming and percussion, in Las Vegas, Nevada. I look forward to meeting new students, from beginners to even fellow professionals, that just need a "tune-up"!!! I strive to provide the highest quality drum & percussion training & direction, to help the student's musical "dreams", become a reality! Please feel free to call with any questions that you may have - at my drum studio, by dialing(including area code in Las Vegas): 702-516-7829 Thanks! Rick Garfield - Instructor (professional drummer /percussionist).
