FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing is very simple. My rates are $30/half-hour and $50/hour for students coming to my studio, and $80/hour when I travel. I usually lock my students in at whatever rate they started with, so I have some students that have been with me for nearly a decade that are paying the rate they started with. It's not always about the money... I have discounted my rate to a select few students that showed incredible ability and desire, but just didn't have the means to afford what I normally charge. I have also lowered my rates temporarily when students have gone through hard times. I do not plan to raise my rates while our community is struggling. I actually WANT to teach and I want students that want to learn to be able to afford what I charge.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was a Musician my whole life. I couldn't be happy doing anything else. Teaching music is a big part of becoming a great musician. Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Chopin, Liszt... They all taught music as well. "Teaching is the highest form of learning" ~ Aristotle. In short, my job is to learn at the highest level. I will always be working at becoming a better musician and teacher. Always!
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Most of my students choose either Guitar or Piano as their primary area of study. However, once my students understand that they can cross-train on other instruments, they usually are very interested in doing that. The result is that the student learns MUSIC first, and INSTRUMENT 2nd. This is so effective because great musicians don't play the instrument: they play the music. The instrument is merely a tool.
