Introduction: A Juilliard graduate and teacher for twenty years, I'm a performer and educator who comes from a place of supportiveness and patience, encouraging each student to reach for their potential and goals. I've taught privately and at the Dalton School, working with many students and developing an effective approach for beginners and more advanced students. Young students have been admitted to the Juilliard Pre-College and adult beginners have enjoyed learning fundamentals and growing to play real, fulfilling repertoire. I enjoy students who really care about the cello, but also appreciate the variety of schedules and time people can devote to practicing. I teach at home, at students' homes and via Skype.
For me, an exciting part of teaching is enabling students to find their own personal connection with the cello. When I hear how playing is changing their lives, it's very gratifying. I also enjoy finding the most natural approach for each person. Playing the cello is a physical activity like a sport! So I enjoy helping my students to find technique that really fits them as individuals. Finally, the enjoyment we experience in the process is the best part of all.
