The bootcamp classes are fantastic. Routines are challenging & interactive. Be prepared to sweat & work hard. Dwayne's program consist of minimal breaks & high intensity cardio, balance & strength training. Great workout sessions in the park or at the studio & no two classes are the same.

There's no waisting time with this guy, but that's what you would expect with a former military trainer. He pushes hard but obviously at the level you're at. I'm a beginner but it's clear he's a pro. He knows the body very well, and recognized my strengths and weaknesses the first session. Joey explains very thoroughly and has a lot of patience, I thought he would scream at me like a bootcamp trainer haha but he was actually very kind and professional. I highly recommend!

RETRO GLAM, an all female band signed to Premier Entertainment Group/SonyRED had the pleasure training with Lauren "LC" Wells in her super intense private "Bootcamp" group sessions. She pushed and motivated us in a upbeat and encouraging way while keeping the energy high and fun. She is creative, caring and very passionate about what she does. She truly creates a positive work out environment and makes it fun to sweat off the calories while doing it to the music we love. Would highly recommend! I worked with Marlon for 3+ years and throughout that time was able to reach a level of fitness that I was unable to achieve on my own. Rather than just moving from machine to machine in the gym (which was always my past experience) he combined functional movements, HIIT, body weight exercises and Bootcamp style drills to keep me motivated and see results.

Karen has been my boot camp instructor at Personal Best in Garwood since Dec. 2009. Karen helped me to get back into shape. I wanted to get back into working out but was having a hard time at the Gym by myself. She provided me with exercises that were appropriate for my body and helped me to loose weight. Each boot camp class is different, which I like a lot! She pushes me to perform at my best, which is what I need. I even continued to attend Karen's bootcamp classes during my two pregnancies, and she helped to modify the exercises for me, plus she was very knowledgable about what I could and couldn't do while pregnant. Thank you! :)

Cedric & Anthony are 2 strong professionals committed to improving your health and wellness. I have taken their Woman's Bootcamp and 1 on 1 training. The Bootcamp was an amazing workout. It's all women, most with the same goals, supporting each other. It's an awesome experience! The 1 on 1 training is phenomenal. I have never had someone push me like that before. Cedric & Anthony are so passionate about what they do. They care about your goals and want to see you succeed and go above and beyond! I highly suggest On Point Performance if you're looking to obtain your fitness goals!

My time spent in the Untamed Beings Bootcamp was challenging, tiresome, and straineous in the best ways imaginable. The head trainer Eric McClain is an excellent motivator, clear and fluent demonstrator, and one to make you feel comfortable not only with new excersizes, but with pushing your limits. I would recommend to anyone looking for a physical challenge with tremendous payoff.

Lenny and Dario at Personal Best are...well...the best!!! I cannot say enough good things about them. Within the first year of training there I was down 80 pounds!!! I am coming to the end of year number two with an additional 30 pounds lost for a total of 110 pounds that went bye-bye. That's the obvious benefit of my time at PB Fitness. Their facility is always clean and has the latest equipment. They are always furthering their own education researching the latest in diet and exercise and bringing that education to their clients. I've become so interested in diet and fitness because of the gym that I've started down the road of becoming a trainer myself. Another thing I love is their attention to me as an individual. They do not have cookie cutter big box gym diet and exercise programs that they just hand out to everyone. They take the time to understand what I specifically needed. Took into account past injuries, what I enjoy doing, what my specific goals are, and things like family history, allergies, and food sensitivities on the diet side. Checking in with me multiple times a week via text and phone keeps me motivated and gives me a feeling like I am part of their family. Give them a try...your body will thank you!!!

Before working with Destiny, I was thinking about training for about a year (or two) because the gym and bootcamps were not getting me the results I wanted. Long story short, I started with Destiny 6 months ago. I have to admit, it was slow moving for the first two months because we only met once a week and I didn't do what I was supposed to. Just when I was going to give up.. I gave it one last go and asked her what I needed to do to get exactly what I wanted.. I didnt like what she had to say but I jumped in..made the investment in her..but really me and my only regret is that I didn't start sooner!! If you are thinking about it..do it! I recommend Destiny with my strongest muscle! You may not like everything you have to do but you will be happy you did!! I am very happy with the changes I see in my body! I feel confident!

I took a few bootcamp classes before, but I was truly impressed after I tried Xceed. The wide variation of exercises provided a true full body workout and I felt great after I left the class. There was a good group of people and we all had great time. The instructors are awesome ans made the class fun. They also offer nutritional planning and the price is cheaper than any local bootcamps. Im definitely looking forward to coming back.

A true warrior is relaxed in body and mind, in stressful situations in life, and other areas are fun challenges to a Guerrero. But I just want to workout, so why? Being relaxed in the mind and body is the ultimate key in losing weight. Cortisol keeps your body in a gaining weight mode and makes you feel like crap. Exercise is consciously applied stress to mind and body, so if you have a hard time relaxing majority of the day, it will make burning fat 10 times harder. Training is 80% mental. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      Is kickboxing hard?

Kickboxing is as intense a workout as you want it to be. As with any fitness regimen, the more effort you put in, the more results you will get. The type of kickboxing you do will determine how physically challenging it is. Combat or self-defense kickboxing, where you train in a martial arts studio with sandbags or spar against combat partners, can be an intense physical workout. Group kickboxing classes that use sandbags as part of the workout will also elevate the degree of intensity, because of the level of exertion punching and kicking the bag requires. Cardio kickboxing group fitness, which employ kicking and punching moves but no sandbags, has comparable intensity to jogging but works a wider range of muscles while increasing strength, flexibility and coordination. Here are some of the core kickboxing moves:

      • Cross: A straight punch that you throw slightly across your body, using your dominant hand.
      • Jab: A quick, straight, face punch. Usually thrown with the non-dominant hand.
      • Uppercut: A punch thrown up from the midsection (using either hand) that connects with the underside of your opponent’s chin.
      • Hook: A curved punch (using either hand) that connects with your competitor’s jaw or chin.
      • Side kick: A kick delivered when your competitor is at an angle to you. Raise your leg to the side, then bend at the knee to deliver the kick.
      • Front kick: A kick delivered straight on while you are facing your opponent.
      • Roundhouse kick: A kick delivered by swinging a leg up in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion (depending on which leg you’re using) with momentum to strike the opponent with the instep of the foot.

      What is kickboxing?

Kickboxing is a type of martial art whose basic moves are widely practiced in personal and group fitness regimens. In combat kickboxing, two competitors fight using four points of contact — both hands and both feet — unlike traditional boxing, where competitors are allowed to use their hands. In competitive kickboxing, opponents must remain standing, and no fighting can occur on the mat or ground. Kickboxing has its roots in Muay Thai and other ancient martial arts. Some elemental moves from kickboxing include roundhouse kicks, back kicks, hooks, uppercuts and more.

Modern group fitness kickboxing is practiced in gyms and workout studios across the country. It draws its moves from combat kickboxing, but instead of fighting with an opponent, participants perform jabs, crosses, punches and kicks in instructor-led, choreographed routines set to music. Personal trainers also incorporate kickboxing moves into workout routines, spending time punching and kicking the bag. These strength-building moves, mixed with high-intensity intervals, boost heart rate and increase strength.

      Is kickboxing good exercise?

Kickboxing is great exercise. It works your whole body and really gets your heart pounding. Kickboxing combines upper- and lower-body movements like roundhouse kicks and uppercut punches that boost calorie burning. The type of kickboxing you do will determine how much exercise you get. Kickboxing training that takes place in a martial arts studio will involve kicking and punching a sandbag or sparring with a competitor, both of which will sharply increase the amount of exercise you’ll experience in a kickboxing session. Comparatively, a study by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) found that women doing group fitness cardio kickboxing burned between 6.45 and 8.3 calories per minute, or approximately 350-450 calories burned during an hour-long class. This is roughly what you can expect to burn with jogging or similar exercise, but ACE says that cardio kickboxing offers the added benefits of increased strength and flexibility, sharper reflexes, and improved coordination. Whether you’re training to fight competitively, learning kickboxing as a form of self-defense, or taking cardio kickboxing at your local gym, you’ll get a full-body workout with positive health benefits.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

What should you wear to kickboxing?

What you wear to kickboxing can vary based on the setting. For kickboxing group fitness classes that are part of a gym’s cardio class schedule, standard fitness attire is appropriate. Athletic sneakers, pants or shorts that you can comfortably kick in without getting tangled or flashing anyone, and a top that allows for easy movement when punching and jabbing are all good choices. You won’t need protective gear or gloves, as most cardio-based kickboxing classes do not use punching bags.

Kickboxing training that takes place at a martial arts studio typically requires protective gear. You may need boxing gloves (beginners may want 12-ounce or heavier gloves for more cushioning) and hand wraps that protect and support your hands under the gloves while you punch the bag. If your kickboxing training includes sparring with opponents, you’ll need a mouthguard and any protective head and body gear your studio requires. Always be sure to bring plenty of water, too.
