I attended a wedding celebration for a friend at The Rhinecliff Hotel. This is where we met Nick from The Best of Both Worlds. The first thing we noticed was the big Photo Booth that our friends and other guests were waiting online for. We took part in the photo booth and we were very pleased with the props, the instant print out of clear pictures and we were amazed on how user friendly Nick's photo booth was. While getting our picture prints I met videographer who was placing a video camera inside the photo booth to record. I was curious to know what this was. The Videographer explained to me that this was an additional service for the groom and bride. Not only would we get our pictures taken, but he was preparing a slow motion video photo booth montage. This footage would be added along with a funny song, uploaded online, and a link would be given to the Groom and Bride to share with all the guests as an extra party favor. I was thrilled with the idea, and I was interested in knowing more about his services. He quickly introduced me to his wife who was the photographer. I turns out that this husband and wife team work with Nick and provide video and photography services. Along with this and the lights, video projectors, Nick does truly have the best of both worlds. We were so please with the entire presentation of my friends Wedding, that my fiancee and I have decided to book Nick and his team for our own wedding and we are also recommending him to 2 friends of ours who will be having birthday celebrations in early 2017. Best of Both Worlds has it all, DJs, Performers, lights, video screens, photo booth, video and photography services all under one umbrella. This certainly makes our life easier when it comes down to booking.

Working with Neil Blake was a wonderful experience! If he wasnt by my side he was interviewing a guest or filming every event at party. He was pleasant and professional and a joy to converse with. My guest enjoyed being filmed and his courteous demeanor made them want to prance for the camera making them feel like the star for the moment while still making me SHINE as the main attraction and the results are proof. I can only wish and insist that others get to experience the care and excellent quality of a true professional like that of which l found in Mr. Neil Blake☺

Kevin is very knowledgeable about photography, which is apparent after just a quick conversation. He gave me a bunch of different options to consider, along with his own recommendations. He very patiently described the inspirations behind his shoots and also gave me an overview of some of the technical aspects he utilized. Ultimately, it was a very pleasant experience and I would definitely recommend Kevin to anyone who is looking for photographic services.

Bin did an excellent job as our videographer for our son's Christening. We were very happy with the results. In addition, she also took several pictures of our family when she was not using the video camera. She has a great eye-- spent a significant amount of time making sure the pictures were the best quality. Guests commented to us that the photographer really spent a lot of time getting great pictures. Bin is dependable and easy to reach. She is also very personable and is a pleasure to work with!

Wow! Eddie and his assistant are AWESOME! He was super responsive throughout the whole planning process. On the day of our wedding he was there super early to set up, played all my requests and chose great music to play after those were finished. A few weeks prior to our day, I asked Eddie if he would be able to bring a projector so I could play a video and I was thrilled that he could! It went so well!! Big shout out to his assistant who was a ray of sunshine at the photobooth the whole night. So happy we had the pleasure of working with Strategy Event Productions! Thank you!!!!

Melissa was a pleasure communicating and coordinating with! Her and Steve arrived a little early to start on filming while I got ready. Just upon meeting them, they were friendly and super sweet and you could tell they knew what they were doing! I loved the way they filmed without interrupting the flow of the events. They worked ectremely well with my photographers. Steve included an awesome idea to use for his drone shot, which Im so excited to see! Working with them was so easy and pleasant, Im sure Ill be calling them for all of my family and friend's future events because not only is their work perfection, but they are such a great couple! Im looking forward to seeing my wedding video, as well as all their videos from other weddings and events!

I would highly recommend Anton to everyone. He really did a great job for filming my wedding at Oct. He got to the venue early to film the preparation, and filmed a lot of beautiful details that me and my guests didn't even pay much attention. He and his assistance worked entire time from ceremony to the end of receptions. I can see him everywhere. After the wedding, he quickly provided me the highlight (in a day!) and modified quickly based on my requests. The highlight turned out amazing! I couldn't believe he captured so many small, but touching and beautiful moments. He made the highlight like a mini movie! All family members, friends, my hubby and myself are supper impressed by the highlight. Compared the price I paid with the service I got, Anton is the most valuable vendor amount all the vendors I hired for the wedding! He is definitely above my expectation! I will definitely go back to him for my next important event (new born etc)!

The highlight video that was produced was top notch. Larry came to my daughters games and created a highlight film that my daughter and I are very proud of. We sent the video to some of her perspective high schools and her current CYO and AAU coaches. The responses were positive. Larry did not just edit out the bad stuff; he was able to capture what she is as a basketball player. The only thing you need to ask is how long will the whole process take from filming, editing to delivery. I underestimated how long it would take (not their fault) to produce the highlight film as well as how soon the high schools needed their decisions. All in all, it all worked out as we wanted and we have a great film that we plan to post online.

I hired Lemar for a surprise engagement at the Rockefeller centre in NYC. Lemar was so great. He made the occasion so easy and was amazing to work with. He had already scoped the area we were shooting in and had placing in mind for us to shoot after he event too. This gave me peace of mind on the day which was already very high pressured and important to be just right. He provided great high quality photos and video of the event. I am so happy with his work. I highly recommend this man. He is an artist and truly a nice guy too. Thanks Lemar!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
