I would say that if you think or you are experiencing the nightmare of a bedbug infestation, I can't imagine any company more better suited, to your needs on every level, than Odin Pest Managment. Gene, the owner, took plenty of time to call me prior to coming out, to walk me through the process and explain how to prepare. We in fact had several conversations...which he seemed equally happy to participate in. He was able to accommodate a next day appointment. And on that morning, we had to reaccess our needs, from a treatment to just an inspection, which he was more than happy to do, despite the difference in price. We had had the unfortunate experience of having another exterminator come several days prior to finding Gene (Odin) to look for SPIDERS that had been biting me, and during his inspection (which he was 3 hrs late for), he turned my entire bedroom upside down in a matter of minutes, claimed to have found 1 bedbug, which I photographed (and can not make it out to be anything but a small brown shadow), incited panic and before I told him that he could proceed (as my husband needed to come home and get his photo equipment and clothes for an assignment first), he began spaying chemicals in my room (without telling us what they were-which is apparently illegal). On top of this, he did not have us clear all the drawers and wardrobes, so he could move everything away from the walls, so that he was actually thoroughly able to treat our room. He told us nothing accept that my 5 yr old daughter and I had to leave for 6 hours....and this was on a Sat at about 3pm.....Breathe. Anyway, I only share this in Gene's review to better illustrate how he was the complete antithesis of what we had just previously experienced. To finish what seems like a saga....Gene found NOTHING that would even slightly suggest that there was ever any presence of a bedbug. He was unbelievably thorough, exceedingly calm, deeply knowledgable and was completely forthcoming about every aspect of the process. He was also very respectful, in not undermining the original exterminators assessment, while keeping our best interest at heart. I CAN NOT RECOMMEND GENE MORE HIGHLY!! He is an absolute stand up professional!! -SP

I hired Bugged Out to take care of a bed bugs problem. They were the most affordable of all of the exterminators that I contacted and were able to schedule extermination less than 24 hours after I contacted them. They were quick and arrived during the scheduled time. The technicians were polite and thorough.

Thomas was excellent start to finish. Spent many hours on the job and came back the following week for a free check up and to complete any areas that needed special attention. We are so happy with his services that we are going to have him come back monthly and work on other buildings for us, really the best exterminator experience we have had in many years.

I needed an exterminator today for a really bad ant problem and when I spoke with Raymond at about 4:30pm today, he said he’d be over about 7:30pm and was true to his word. He addressed the problem immediately and plans to continue to monitor and treat it until the job is complete. He was prompt, courteous and professional.

Jason from B&D arrived when promised, inspected my home thoroughly for bat infestation, discovered the most likely entry and took care of the problem by installing a one-way tunnel, then sealing up the entry after a few weeks. He also came back at no additional cost to remove a second bat (that appeared to be impaired) and re-inspect the house. He was well mannered and professional and explained things properly. Cost is not cheap but there is a good warranty and I have not had a problem since. I highly recommend.

I would absolutely recommend dynamic exterminating . The technician (Danny I think ?) was there within the time frame that he gave , they came that day that I called . He was professional and friendly . Best of all he eliminated my pest problem ! I have never called an exterminator before so I don't know if the price was reasonable or not , but it was well worth my peace of mind !

Mike arrived early which was a nice. He went over everything from earlier exterminator job to what he would be doing. He did the outside of house before he entered to do inside. The job was done well as of right now everything looks great. No weird smell or any signs of treatment usage anywhere in the house. Personally hoping not to have to call back for 2nd treatment but if need be Mike assured there would be no hassle. Very professional.

I can’t say enough for “what’s bugging you?” After going completely crazy with other exterminators who did nothing but charge me lots of $ and never eliminated my bedbug situation. I got in touch with Fernando of “what’s bugging you?”, he answered promptly and destroyed the bedbugs, I will never use anyone else, and his prices are great. I highly recommend him.

Even though I was egregiously hysterical about roaches he was absolutely awesome. Came on time, professional, answered my ridiculous questions, explained everything-- got it all done. I had an exterminator come in a few weeks before and saw a live roach soon after so I'm glad I'll be getting the value for money this time. Would definitely hire again and would definitely recommend!

We've had several mouse sightings in the apartment over the past few months. Julio quickly arranged a service appointment and he was extremely thorough in searching my apartment for mouse entry points and found several that a previous exterminator missed. He then diligently took the time to fill the holes. I feel much more secure in my apt now. I'd highly recommend Julio to anyone experiencing rodent problems.

Affordable and Effective! Bed bug free. I am tearing from joy as I write this review. Finally able to step into my home and feel safe. The team who just treated my home was every bit what I researched online regarding proper bed bug treatments. They inspected every inch, did not miss a single item, made sure that every room and piece of furniture was treated and spent time with me after the treatment discussing post treatment maintenance and preventative measures. They genuinely place pride in their work which is reflected in every aspect of their approach. They took the time to walk me through the details of their inspection, what treatment steps they would be employing and why, during the bed bug extermination they kept a neat and safe working environment, when the bed bug extermination was complete, they were nice enough to mop up and sweep up after themselves (good manners and craftsmanship go a long way here). The team was highly knowledgeable and supportive. By far the best bed bug exterminators in NYC. I had 3 bed bug exterminators fail over a period of 6 months, none even performed a fraction of the treatment methods that this crew performed and none had the skill, high tech equipment, and pride in their work ethic. Happily free of bed bugs in NYC.

I highly recommend Joe - he was thorough and did a great job of plugging up the holes so mice could no longer get in. Thanks to his excellent job, 3 mice were immediately captured and it looks like my home is mouse-free again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How do you get rid of termites?

The best way to get rid of termites is to act fast. Termites are a problem that will only get worse — and no matter how much you want them to, they usually don’t magically move out on their own. There are three main types of termites: drywood, dampwood and subterranean. Drywood and dampwood termites sneak through cracks in your exterior paint, nail holes, and gaps near windows and other openings and begin to eat through your wood. Subterranean termites enter your house from the ground up by creating mud tunnels. In all cases, they survive by eating the wood of your house. The type of termites you have can steer the treatment plan.

Methods of termite extermination include fumigation, use of pesticides, and use of natural elements that are poisonous to the bugs. The extent of your termite infestation will help determine the treatment method. If you have drywood or dampwood termites that have infiltrated all aspects of the wood in your home, the pest control pro may recommend enclosing the whole house in a tent and gassing the termites via fumigation. If you have subterranean termites, often the entire footprint of the home must be treated by drilling liquid treatments into the slab or foundation of the home to exterminate the colonies. In any case, once you see signs of termites, it’s time to take action and call a pest pro.

What are the signs of termites in your home?

When you see signs of termites in your home, call a trusted pest control professional as soon as possible to handle the situation. Termites feed on wood, meaning they eat through the wood that makes up the frame, floors and other components of your house. Most people don’t know they have termites until they discover the damage done, because termites remain hidden underground or inside the wood they are eating. Keep on the lookout for these signs of termites:

  • Water bubbles in your interior or exterior paint: If you poke at what look like paint bubbles and find termite droppings inside, it’s a sign of termite infestation.
  • Frass: This is a fancy term for termite poop. Keep your eyes peeled for what look like six-sided salt and pepper droppings.
  • Mud tubes: Subterranean termites move between their earth home and your house by building mud tunnels. Mud tubes under or along the side of your house or foundation are a sure sign of a termite infestation.
  • Wings or swarming near your home: As a new colony is looking for a home, they fly (swarm), then shed their wings and burrow into nearby wood.
  • Softening of wood or hollowed-out wood: Termites don’t like paint, lacquer varnish or other wood finishes, so they’ll eat inside the wood and leave the exterior finish like a shell.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.
