We needed to re-caulk and grout our bathroom tub. Mike was very responsive in both emails and phone and is extremely knowledgeable about this and a wide range of home improvement projects. He was on time and totally exceeded our expectations. I would give him 10 stars if allowed.

Juan was extremely flexible on timing, very communicative, professional and efficient. My shower was leaking into my downstairs neighbors' apartment and he came in to regrout my bath tub tiles the afternoon I reached out to him. While he was waiting for the grout to set, he tightened all the hinges on my kitchen cabinet doors. Juan returned the following morning to check and fix the shower faucet, washers and water lines. He discussed all this with the building super to be sure the leak was completely fixed and no more water was getting into my neighbors' apartment. I have already agreed to hire him again for other projects.

I hired Stone-Tec to repair chips in my quartz kitchen countertop and to re-grout my shower floor. The kitchen counter top repair came out amazing- I cannot even see where the chips used to be. The shower re-grout was much more affordable then re-tiling the area. It now has a fresh clean look. Tony removed the old grout and put in new puddy colored grout (so dirt would not show). They are responsive, punctual and will work with you till your satisfaction.

Silvia was great, exceeded my expectations and made what was once a grimey move-in for our new apartment into a much better living situation. She cleaned the grout and tiles for our bathroom and it almost felt like new. She also did a great job with the floors and went above and beyond putting things away and helping setup our new place.

I was 100% satisfied with the work I had done by this company! They were very helpful and accommodating from the receptionist who answered the phone to the man who came to do my work. They came to my house the same day that I called! The gentleman who came to clean my tile and grout in my kitchen was prompt, knowledgeable, nice and thorough. My floors came out amazing!! The price they gave me was more reasonable than any other company around. I will definitely use this company for any other work in my house that I need!

Sam and crew did a fabulous job from start to finish. We had multiple jobs like sheet rock repair and finishing, painting, grouting tiles, minor electric and plumbing work as well. He finished all of these within 3 days. The price was reasonable and he offered full clarity into the price per job as well. Sam and team were very professional and we had a pleasant and stress free experience.

We had a good experience with Tom. He showed up on time every day, gave a very reasonable estimate, and was a very hard worker. We're noticing some small issues since completion of the project (having to do paint touch-ups, remove hardened grout from floor/walls, and reinstall a towel bar that wasn't flush to the wall), but generally, we're very happy with the final product, which was a complete 180 from our original bathroom.

If I could give Jason 10 stars I would. EXCELLENT communication. HONEST and TRANSPARENT pricing. Showed up on time. Did the job (tearing down a tile wall, retiling and grout work) with a METICULOUS attention to detail. He cares about what he does and takes pride in his work and the experience working with him was hands down one of the best contractor experiences I've ever had. Trustworthy and an absolute pleasure to work with.

Aslam Pars and his two co-workers cemented and painted a brick wall. He also re-grouted a bathtub and shower, and he fixed our Ikea kitchen drawers. He was committed to doing a good job and was very open to feedback and slight alterations. He was extremely punctual and completed the job on time. We would call Aslam for help again.

I also hired Ken to clean and recolor my grout to a nice brown color. My floor look great due to the hard work by Ken and his son. Highly recommend his craftmanship.

Osman was amazing. He replied to my request and arrived exactly when he said he would. I needed to have my lower cabinet and its granite countertop moved back against the wall. He had slipped over an inch away and the granite backsplash was dangerously precarious. Then I wanted him to remove all the poorly installed granite back splash and put up a full ceramic tile backsplash. He looked at the job, explained what had to be done and estimated how long it would take. He gave me a very fair price and we agreed to a start date. He arrived on time, with all his equipment and with a helper. He was very neatly dressed and insisted on taking off his shoes before coming in the house. He and his partner worked from 9:00a till about 5:30p. They cleaned up everything and bagged all the trash. They returned once to grout and will return once more to seal the backsplash. The job is perfect. He is an excellent craftsman, meticulous and exact. He was very quiet and extremely respectful of my home. I will be hiring him again and again for all sorts of work and repairs. I recommend him completely and with NO reservations.

I have had the opportunity to work with Michael as a peer, employee, sub-contractor of his company, and hired sub-contractor for my company. Michael truly is the most knowledgeable person I’ve ever worked with when it comes to the Carpet Cleaning, Water Restoration, Upholstery Cleaning, Tile & Grout Cleaning, VCT Floor Care, Window Cleaning, and general Building Service trades. I know this because he is the technician I call when I need help on a project, ideas on how to complete a difficult task, or when I’m just plain stumped! He knows his trade extremely well from the scientific, and more specifically, from the chemistry side as well as from the practical application side. He is great to work with, bringing his attention to detail to every project yet he is able to accomplish tasks efficiently. I would like to emphasize that he expects quality with any job that bears his name. His communication and people skills are excellent, and he has some very innovative ideas. I can highly recommend him for any project you need him for. If a particular job presents obstacles he is well suited to the challenges it provides. In fact he almost does better with a job that presents challenges! Michael is a talented person all the way around. If you need any additional information, please contact me. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.
