We had hired another Chef to cater a private 5 course dinner for two for our 25th Anniversary Dinner. We devised a fantastic menu incorporating all the items we wanted. Unfortunately, on the morning of our scheduled date, the chef we hired had a family emergency and said he was sending another chef, Efraim Vasquez, to our engagement. The chef we hired said he prepped and packaged all the food and it was ready for pick up by chef Efraim and he guaranteed we were going to be in great hands. We were very disappointed and apprehensive about this last minute change in Chefs because we knew nothing about him. And to our sheer delight, Chef Efraim was amazing!!!! He arrived at 5:30PM which allowed him to leisurely prepare the food and start serving our first course at 8:00PM. He was friendly, professional and very personable. The food tasted fantastic and the presentation of each course was a work of art. We had layed out the plates on the counter that we thought he would use for the night and Efraim went into our cabinets and utilized different plates that he thought would make a better presentation and he was right!!!! He didn’t rush us through the courses. He allowed time for our photographer to take photos of us and the food and for us to enjoy each course. He popped our champagne bottles, gave us a toast and poured our champagne in our flutes all night. He described each course as he presented it. The tuna carpaccio was fresh, the lobster and avocado salad had a good amount of lobster, the grilled octopus was very tender and well seasoned, the duck breast was phenomenal (tender and flavorful), the seared Chilean sea-bass was delicious, the lobster mashed potatoes were divine and filled with lobster meat, and the banana flambé presentation was the perfect ending with a big, tall fire. As a bonus, chef Efraim made a second batch of bananas flambé at our request and allowed my wife to participate in the preparation as he directed and supervised her. This was the highlight of her evening!!!!! My wife is a foodie and many of the items were the best we both had ever tasted or were plated so lovely because presentation is everything. We had never discussed any of our expectations with Efraim prior to arrival, but as soon as he walked in the door it felt like we knew him for some time and he instinctually knew what we wanted. He understood the significance of the evening to us and went out of his way accommodating us throughout the evening. Pre -Covid - Our plan was to celebrate our 25th anniversary in Santorini, Greece with a private chef preparing our meal at our villa while we sat overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Efraim made our evening as close as possible to being “magical” in our own backyard. This was our first time ever hiring a chef to prepare a meal in our home and we will not hesitate on hiring Efraim directly and recommending him to our friends and loved ones for a home prepared culinary experience in the future.See more

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.
