Elmer and his assistant came on time and were able to take care of a variety of things around the house (assembly, hanging items, etc). He’s extremely responsive and professional - will definitely continue using Them!

Appreciate Top to Bottom's integrity and honesty. Showed up to do a cleaning job but when she realized the house was going up for sale and would eventually be gutted, she told me not to waste my money. Didn't even take payment for her travel or trouble!

Blane was referred by a friend to help with purging and redefining our space after two rooms were free in my house. Blane truly has both vision and is also hands on. We emptied shelves, moved tables, got rid of a rug to open up the space. In three visits Blane found innovative ways of arranging furniture and artwork. We found a desk in one room that was not being used and moved it up to my newly created office. We also emptied a shelf to put in a newly created tv room. Blane is very aware of feng shui so that in my office he suggested I find a mirror so that although my back is facing the door when sitting at my desk, it is all cool now. In the first floor that was cluttered we cleared a cabinet filled with mail and replaced it with a glass bowl and later put up curtains. A very visually unaware friend noticed noticed the change as well as the curtains. On our most recent meeting we shopped for pillows and curtains and came back to the house to hang the curtains up. Blane finds innovative and aesthetic ways of arranging a room and clearing space. He also makes suggestions so that I went to the Container Store on my own and cleaned my dresser tops and rearranged my jewelry in boxes and containers so that now I know what I have. Blane is friendly and easy to work with, teaching you "how to fish" so that going forward I can utilize some of his vision and expertise on my own. I will call him back to work on my closets, but am going to clear some more space before then. Blane is truly a find. I am so happy that he came into my life.

The Perfect Wife has been a lifesaver for me. I have a townhouse property in Manhattan and I needed someone to babysit it, which involved opening the door for realtors, gardeners, plumbers, as well as supervising the work and organizing the house. I needed someone to be me and be there with integrity and professionalism. The Perfect Wife has been reliable and efficient. They are always available and have the best solution for my needs. María and Adrian are great workers I trust them. They have the keys to my place and I am so happy with their work. They really back me up in Manhattan. I recommend their services and most of all I recommend them.

Mark, his son & daughter took good care of our dog Bear while we were away for a week. He was walked & groomed daily. Mark offered flexibility in case our schedule changed and was responsive to my texts. They accommodated my request that no other animals be in the household while caring for Bear and he received the attention that we wanted him to have rather than being boarded at a Kennel. Will definitely reach out to The Dawg House for future sittings.

Rebecca Douglass has walked my various Shetland Sheepdogs since 2005. She has helped care for their physical and emotional needs while I worked and when out of the house for long periods. Rebecca is unfailingly trustworthy and conscientious. She is experienced in pet care and always has good ideas to improve their quality of life. I recommend Rebecca and her business Privileged Paws for anyone seeking good quality dog walking services.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

How do I find a reliable house sitter?

House sitting can help keep your home safe and well cared for so you can be worry-free while you’re away for work or play. There are several steps you can take to make sure you hire a trustworthy house sitter and do your part to be a responsible host. One of the best ways to ensure a safe home is to hire a professional house sitter. Here are some key points to look for when hiring a house sitter:

    • Reviews and referrals: When searching for a house sitter, always read reviews. Previous experiences will indicate how the house sitter will care for your home while you’re away.
    • Contract: Sign a clearly written contract outlining services to be provided (e.g., mail in each day by 5 p.m.), the daily rate you are paying, and how long the services will be provided. You can also include any agreed-upon house rules in the written contract.
    • Your part: Leave important phone numbers (vet, emergency contact, etc.) and information on where to find emergency items like the circuit breaker and the fire extinguisher, and have a credit card on file with the veterinarian in case of emergencies if the house sitter is watching your pets.
