- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
- Japanese Nihongo Kaiwa Lesson by Kasumi Abe Typically, I spend the first 10 minutes chatting about casual topics like the weather, the weekend, or recent events. Then we spend the next 50 minutes focusing on what the student wants to learn. This varies depending on each student’s goals—some want to be able to talk confidently about current events in Japanese, while others may be preparing for a trip to Japan. I tailor each lesson to suit your specific goals. In our first lesson, I usually ask you to share your reasons for learning Japanese and what you hope to achieve. Based on that, I design lessons that align with your interests and objectives.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Writing has always been at the heart of my career. After graduating from university in Japan with a B.A. in American and British Studies, I began my career as a magazine editor and writer at a publishing company. That’s when I started my journey as a journalist. As an editor-in-chief, I published three guidebooks. In New York, I worked as a senior editor at a local Japanese newspaper. After becoming independent, I continued working as a freelance journalist, writer, and TV & radio reporter. As an author, I published a book about the Brooklyn neighborhood.
